The Amazing Spider-Man Raimi Cast vs. Webb Cast

Peter Parker/Spidey - Andrew Garfield for me, Tobey did a great job and I loved those movies. But I feel Garfield's got more about him. For example SM3, when Spidey gets the black suit and is supposed to be all dark etc. I couldn't take him seriously. Same with any of the crying scenes. So AG for me.

Gwen Stacy v Mary Jane - Can't compare both Gwens as the roles aren't the same. Emma Stone beats Kirsten Dunst here, even though I may have developed a crush on the latter during my younger years. She was a better character anyway so that helps, the way MJ was written didn't help Dunst. She had relationships with 4 different guys and always got kidnapped. But better performance from Stone, if you compare her getting upset at Pete for not being there for her at her father's funeral, to MJ in SM2 getting upset at Pete for not seeing her show - you can just see already who is easier to warm to. So yeah, Webb's cast again.

Curt Connors/Lizard - I suppose you compare Rhys to Dylan Baker? In terms of first films I loved Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin so he'd win here, just a nutter and he nailed that laugh for me. I preferred Rhys probably though I couldn't always take him seriously as he was transforming. I feel he would have been better if they'd kept some things we know they cut, like the extended bit after the library fight, the stuff with his family, the building bridges scene especially. That would have added to his character. In a sense it's hard to compare as they have different roles, Rhys' Connors becomes more of a mentor for Peter - working with him at Oscorp, explaining about his father. Baker didn't really get as much of a presence for me. I feel Ifans edges it as he transformed into the Lizard, Baker didn't and wasn't really developed so much either.

Uncle Ben - Loved Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben, felt the relationship was better done with Pete. Cliff Robertson also did a fine job. For me it's about equal as they both play their part well and influence Pete to good effect.

Aunt May - Don't feel we've seen enough of Sally Field yet, I like the way her relationship with Peter was presented though. Especially that really simple late scene with the eggs. Always brings a tear to my eye! Rosemary Harris has had more screentime though and we've seen her go through different things, she edges it here - only because May didn't get much of a presence in ASM.

Captain Stacy v JJ - I'd almost compare these two as they play similar roles in opposing Spidey. Leary and Simmons are both fantastic actors, Captain Stacy had a larger role compared to SM3 - where the part he played in the plot was pretty stupid (the whole Flint Marko killing Ben...) But if I'm going for Stacy v JJ, JJ would win.

Flash - easily ASM as Flash in SM1 is a simple stereotype and written for us to hate. Flash in ASM has depth to him, comforting Pete after Ben's death and then obviously the end when they're buds.

It's hard to compare them as in each film they add differently to the plot. I preferred Webb's version and his cast, it's got more potential for me. Looking forward to seeing new MJ and Harry in ASM2.

As far as the supporting cast was concerned,Raimi's was slightly better.
Better Aunt May and Uncle Ben(By a small margin),JJ wins against Stacy,Franco wins against Zylka,Dafoe wins against Ifans

But Webb's Main cast(Garfield and Stone) were better

It's difficult to compare.

You can't compare apples with oranges.

Though James Franco was the very best from Raimi's cast....

If only Franco has played Peter Parker/Spiderman instead of Tobey

I love the Raimi cast more for nostalgic reasons. I still love Tobey Maguire, James Franco, and even Kirsten Dunst (mostly from Spider-Man 1). Man, even thinking about when I first saw Spider-Man 1 makes me tear up a little bit because it had such a huge impact on me when I was a kid. I saw it twice in theaters, and counted the days until it came out on VHS. I remember watching the movie over and over again at home (of course I had to rewind the video tape), and watched the "Hero" music video at the end of the movie each time. Then I took a break from it when I got my PlayStation 2 and played the video game based on the movie. It isn't nearly as good as Spider-Man 2: The Game, but it has so much sentimental value to me. I loved the first level where you go around searching for Uncle Ben's killer (hey, that reminds me of TASM). I still own the game actually... I think I want to go and play it again.

What I'm about to write doesn't mean the one that I favour LESS was horrible or anything, it's just the fact that I prefer one over another.

Andrew>Tobey

Emma>Kirsten/Bryce

Martin's tied with Cliff

Sally's tied with Rosemary

Peter Parker/Spider-Man: Andrew Garfield hands down. I still like Tobey.

Gwen: Well, this isn't really a fair comparison because Bryce didn't have much to work with. With that said, Gwen.

Aunt May: Sally Field

Uncle Ben: Sheen. I actually grew to care for his character, he brought him to life.

Flash: Joe gets my pick

I think as of right now, I like Rosemary Harris a lot more as Aunt May. But I want to see more of Sally Field's version more before I judge.

PETER PARKER/SPIDER-MAN
Tobey Maguire vs. Andrew Garfield
Andrew Garfield!

GWEN STACY
Bryce Dallas Howard vs. Emma Stone
Emma Stone, no contest.

DR. CONNORS
Dylan Baker vs. Rhys Ifans
Rhys Ifans!

AUNT MAY
Rosemary Harris vs. Sally Field
Hmmm...calling a tie on this one, really tough.

UNCLE BEN
Cliff Robertson vs. Martin Sheen
Hmmm...another tie, tough choice.

FLASH THOMPSON
Joe Manganiello vs. Chris Zylka
Chris Zylka, no contest.

I feel like the old Aunt May knew the right thing to say at the right time and always had a speech ready. By the third one it was kinda annoying. I like Sally Field's way of playing her as a normal mother-like figure who speaks whatever's on her mind, and can nag to her kid if she wants to. Uncle Ben in Amazing was a blue-collar kinda handyman, much like the first version. I liked Sally Field more but Uncle Ben is tough to choose.

Its hard to choose Uncle Ben because Cliff Robertson's didn't have as much to do.

Except for try to pull the old man sentimental card and be preachy.

Maguire vs Garfield – Like both but Maguire is my favourite
Dunst vs Stone - Stone
Baker vs Ifans – Ifans, had more material to chew on too

Harris vs Field - Tough one. Sally Field really is a great actress and I’m looking forward to seeing more from her, and I feel Harris really put a stamp on the character.

Robertson vs Sheen – Cliff was alright but Sheen was the more interesting interpretation. Being firmer with Peter but deep down wanting the best for him.

Has anyone ever read "The Amazing Spider-Man" prequel issue? I think it was issue #0. It showed how Uncle Ben played baseball with Peter growing up, giving him his comic book collections and such. I wish we could get some of that on screen, but I'm glad Aunt May referenced his comics in SM2.
