Peter Parker/Spidey - Andrew Garfield for me, Tobey did a great job and I loved those movies. But I feel Garfield's got more about him. For example SM3, when Spidey gets the black suit and is supposed to be all dark etc. I couldn't take him seriously. Same with any of the crying scenes. So AG for me.
Gwen Stacy v Mary Jane - Can't compare both Gwens as the roles aren't the same. Emma Stone beats Kirsten Dunst here, even though I may have developed a crush on the latter during my younger years. She was a better character anyway so that helps, the way MJ was written didn't help Dunst. She had relationships with 4 different guys and always got kidnapped. But better performance from Stone, if you compare her getting upset at Pete for not being there for her at her father's funeral, to MJ in SM2 getting upset at Pete for not seeing her show - you can just see already who is easier to warm to. So yeah, Webb's cast again.
Curt Connors/Lizard - I suppose you compare Rhys to Dylan Baker? In terms of first films I loved Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin so he'd win here, just a nutter and he nailed that laugh for me. I preferred Rhys probably though I couldn't always take him seriously as he was transforming. I feel he would have been better if they'd kept some things we know they cut, like the extended bit after the library fight, the stuff with his family, the building bridges scene especially. That would have added to his character. In a sense it's hard to compare as they have different roles, Rhys' Connors becomes more of a mentor for Peter - working with him at Oscorp, explaining about his father. Baker didn't really get as much of a presence for me. I feel Ifans edges it as he transformed into the Lizard, Baker didn't and wasn't really developed so much either.
Uncle Ben - Loved Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben, felt the relationship was better done with Pete. Cliff Robertson also did a fine job. For me it's about equal as they both play their part well and influence Pete to good effect.
Aunt May - Don't feel we've seen enough of Sally Field yet, I like the way her relationship with Peter was presented though. Especially that really simple late scene with the eggs. Always brings a tear to my eye! Rosemary Harris has had more screentime though and we've seen her go through different things, she edges it here - only because May didn't get much of a presence in ASM.
Captain Stacy v JJ - I'd almost compare these two as they play similar roles in opposing Spidey. Leary and Simmons are both fantastic actors, Captain Stacy had a larger role compared to SM3 - where the part he played in the plot was pretty stupid (the whole Flint Marko killing Ben...) But if I'm going for Stacy v JJ, JJ would win.
Flash - easily ASM as Flash in SM1 is a simple stereotype and written for us to hate. Flash in ASM has depth to him, comforting Pete after Ben's death and then obviously the end when they're buds.
It's hard to compare them as in each film they add differently to the plot. I preferred Webb's version and his cast, it's got more potential for me. Looking forward to seeing new MJ and Harry in ASM2.
