Yep  at least with most villains, I don't know if Green Goblin fits that theme

talking about Green Goblin, I'm really afraid that they will make him a Joker knock-off

Seems to be heading that way, putting the arch nemesis as the main villain for the 2nd installment will probably become a popular theme from here on out

I dont want a Joker knock off or the Ultimate Green Goblin, which was basically Hulk in the form of a Goblin.

Yep, and they probably noticed the divisive nature of this film and realize that they need to step it up so this series doesn't die, enter the arch nemesis, Green Goblin

About the ultimate goblin, I totally agree. I find that some people don't get what makes the original Green Goblin so brilliant. I mean, it's really creepy that he has that other persona mentally, and he let's it out when he puts on the mask and becomes almost a totally different person. It's really creepy, and makes for a way more interesting villain than a plain physical transformation

here's what I'd like to happen: the mask (made out of silicone and prosthetics) would be so convincing that Peter wouldn't even think it could be anything else than a physical transformation especially after a villain like the Lizard, but then it's revealed in the end to Peter and the audience that it's just a mask (many are expecting the classic design but it still being a physical transformation, so if it was first nodded to being a physical transformation everyone would buy it)

Anyway, I'm done arguing with children... if you guys liked the garbage that was TASM, then that's terrific for you, and I weep for the future.

Cheers...

:yay:

I don't know, neither do I care, how old you are. But you definitely come off as the child in here. Grow up.

The next movie is looking up, this movie had some brilliant ideas that just weren't fully realized. It was a good movie, but came short of being a classic because of the inconsistant writing. However since the writers got the boot, now we can enjoy Garfields Spider-Man in a more satisfying adventure, hopefully an adaptation of the night that Gwen Stacy died.

I don't think we're going to get a joker knock off, looking at the Dark Knight Rises I think studios will see The Dark Knight was an anomaly and that the reason it was so successful can't be duplicated. If anything I think they'll look to Daffoe's highly praised Goblin (what ever you say about the suit, he's still highly praised for his work on the role) and they'll see what he did right, and how they can improve.

I definitely loved Raimis cast, it was so classic, but Garfield and Emma stone were very good together, Garfield was a much cooler Peter than Maguire.

if were comparing this to Spider Man 2001 then Willem Dafoe was a much much MUCH better villain than Rhys Ifans was, he only did a decent job, not great by any means... Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin is one of the best superhero villain portrayals imo

Sounds like a very cool idea!

As for characters in both films:

Peter/Spidey = Garfield is far more entertaining than Tobey and has a better, more realistic range of emotions. His body shape is more along the lines of what I (personally) believe Spider-Man's would be and he makes a more believable High School student in physique and demeanor.

Uncle Ben = Despite Sheen's obnoxious fake teeth... he is a better actor and I enjoyed Ben being a little more strict this time around. Added a sense of angst to the entire affair.

Aunt May = Rosemarie Harris probably made a more accurate May, but I dont like old people and Sally Field was far more likable. Even though she didnt get nearly enough screen time.

Dr. Connors = no contest Rhys Ifans is one of my favorite actors and he did a phenomenal job.

Gwen Stacy = Emma Stone killed BDH, also no contest. I should hope this isn't even in question.

Captain George Stacy = Making the adult characters less old and decrepit adds to the youth factor in my opinion. Therefore Dennis Leary wins this one, plus his character actually played a dynamic role in the film compared to the previous Captain.

Flash Thompson = I like a Spider-Fan Flash and I also like the dynamic Flash who recognizes theres a time and place for rough-housing. I like Joe Manganiello, I just hated his role.

Peter Parker/ Spider-Man: I just can't choose, Tobey was a more nerdy Peter and more like the comics, while Andrew Garfield trully acted like a teen would act, so for me it's a tie between these two.

Aunt May: I can't stop saying how much i disliked the new aunt may, she seemed like she was reading her lines out of a paper, and after seeing his nephew all beaten up no mother figure in her right sence would allow so much freedom to Peter, she would make shure he was safe and after being shot i don't even know what Peter's going t explain to her.

Lizard: He was a very interesting character as Dr.Connors, after he became the Lizard he became one of the weakest villains of the film series in my opinion, say whatever you want about Green Lantern's costume but you can't deny that he was a great villain and character.

Gwen Stacy: Very good character, much more likeable than Mary Jane in the original trilogy.

Flash Thompson: Overall i liked him in this film, but in the begining he was too over the top.

Andrew was definitely one of the best parts of the movie, better than Tobey, but I don't totally dislike his performance either. Tobey did have the characteristics of the ditko-era Peter, and he totally sold me on the "Parker-luck" stuff, but I first saw & became a fan of Spider-Man through the 90's show, so that's why I probably like Andrew's Peter more

I think we shouldn't compare Gwen with Gwen etc. since they had so different roles. I think we should rather compare:

Webb's Peter - Raimi's Peter
Webb's Gwen - Raimi's Mary Jane
Webb's Connors/Lizard - Raimi's Osborn/Green Goblin
Webb's Aunt May - Raimi's Aunt May
Webb's Uncle Ben - Raimi's Uncle Ben
Webb's Flash - Raimi's Flash

I don't think we can really compare Webb's Capt. Stacy to Raimi's version. I don't think you can compare Webb's Capt. Stacy to any character of Raimi's trilogy.

The bolded names are the ones I found to be best.

I don't know if I prefer Raimi's Green Goblin over the lizard... I mean, Green Goblin was a better character, but visually it's just so hard to watch, with Lizard, even when he's not as developed, I still enjoy watching him

Webb's casting wins and does better with Gwen, Captain Stacy, and Uncle Ben.

Garfield and Maguire are open to debate.

Rosemary Harris is still the best Aunt May ever. Strangely, I missed her the most :)

Yeah Green Goblin was terrible to look at, but.... in all honesty, he wasn't as terrible as the Lizard. But I don't think it's fair to compare the villains they're really too different characters at work. I still love the Goblin for bringing that larger-than-life presence and Willem Defoe's a much better actor and did a better job at his double-personality (I can't be the only one who found Denis Leary similar to him :oldrazz:).

Spidey's rogues gallery is distinct enough to stand on their own. Connors was more similar to Octavius than he was to Osborn. But pitting a half-man half-lizard against a half-boy half-spider protagonist gave this film the sort of symbolic depth that they had going in dark knight. I loved that.

On that note i wanted to point out this scene:

Very animalistic and primal. One of my favorite things the Lizard did was climb on the ceiling chasing after Spidey.

Yeah that was golden. I loved how the Lizard came out of the sewers in that scene. Gives you a sort of cinematic identity of what happens when this spider-rogue comes to play. That's sort of unique for him.

Gotta love the amount of Spider-Like poses/actions:

Bringing back wall crawling baby.

One thing. Notice how ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN uncle Ben's speech IS LITERALLY THE SAME AS THE ONE USED HERE. I loved that.

Aswell as web shooter creation, homage to that exact pose he does when he fired them onto a wall. Webb also used the 00 Spider, the one that bit Peter in USM.

Webb got me with all these fan-things.

I have the issue in my hands, and even though it's ALMOST the exact same speech, it's not 100% word for word

The exact wording is different but it's essentially the same scene/line of dialogue. It's a lot better than the one we saw previously, definitely something you expect Ben Parker to tell his wayward smart nephew. I guess the "With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility" line should've been dropped, it is a tradition, but this works out just fine.

TASM derived a lot from the Ultimate books, and they managed to overcome the cheese that Bendis brings to his writing. The only gripe I have is that it still shows us a Pete who's essentially a punk, and the change from "troubled outcast" to "fledgling superhero" just wasn't done well in the movie. With Maguire's Pete you got that Uncle Ben's death was a momentous change in his life; Garfield, despite showing a much closer relationship with his uncle, just doesn't dramatise that impact as well.

Pete's entire crusade becomes a personal vendetta, a personal need to fulfill an obligation or responsibility. That's about the opposite of what Ben said to him. He told him to set his personal "choices" aside and do what's best for everything, his obligation was to the people, not to his own teenage angst. Even when he's tackling down the Lizard, he's saying that "it's his job," when he's talking to Capt. Stacy he's saying that he's "saving people from bad guys." But no what he's really doing is stopping bad guys, moreover bad guys that pertain to his personal vendetta. Yes, he turns out to be a force for good and yes the superhero bit is convincing enough, but it was much better executed in Spidey 1 back in '02. Raimi gets points there.

actually they cut the coversation and the last thing of great things are going to happen and gifts is in the message, i would like to see an extended scene where ben just says the last words of the voice mail and starts finding Peter

PETER PARKER/SPIDER MAN

First of all I really enjoyed Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker but compare to Andrew Garfields he was terrible, I mean Andrew was more believable as a high school nerd and his Spider Man costume was fantastic, so Andrew.

Gwen Stacy

No contest Emma was MUCH BETTER and Hotter, one of the best castings in the whole movie.

CURT CONNORS/LIZARD

Rhys Ifans was so under rated, he was amazing as Curt Connors and his Lizard was scary. Definatly my favourite Spider Man villain.

UNCLE BEN

I liked both potrays of Uncle Ben but Sheen and Grfield had better chemistry and also I liked a more strict Uncle Ben, felt more real.

AUNT MAY

Rosemary Harris was SOO ANNOYING, never reallt liked her so I prefer Sally Fields MUCH MORE.

FLASH THOMPSON

The Flash in SP1 was terrible and Zylka (even tho he diddnt do much) was a much better Flash.

Over all Webbs cast is way better.
