'"I'm in love with you, Lois. And I'm going to kiss you."
"You're a dog, Krypto. And I'm going to pet you."
"You're tasty, hamburger. And I'm going to eat you."
Etc.'
Very tempting to use this as my sig. Resisting... urge...
t:Can I just say I don't think it's quite that and I am in no way saying you did this but a lot of people react as if what they're saying is fact at times. Kind of like "no way it's awful, yada yada" but us who love it have also been guilty of that too. I think it's like a defence mechanism more than anything.
Really? You guys who love MOS should do a better job of defending the movie. Saying "well that's your opinion" and "well I liked it" adds nothing to the conversation

^ Said it better than I ever could.

It is not insecurity. It is simply pointing out that the things people are saying that are "wrong" with the movie are wrong "in their opinion". In my opinion, they were fine.
Why they have to stammer on over and over for over thirty pages now about how they didn't enjoy something is the real mystery....
I don't know, Bats, you've got a way with words yourself.
Let me ask you something; what makes you think that it's in any way necessary to point out to someone that their opinion (given on a forum dedicated to fiction, no less) is exactly that? I don't know whether to call that arrogant, disrespectful, or condescending (all of the above, perhaps?), but if nothing else, it's absolutely unnecessary and adds nothing to any kind of debate.
That's a shame, you could've learned something. And it wasn't just for you, I personally think anyone who reads that will take a lot away from it, myself included.**** YAWN ****
All this for me? Too bad I'm not going to waste my time reading it...
If you find the complaining obnoxious and boring and don't wish to talk about the film with those who don't like it, then why are you here? Seems like a waste of your time.
No. Now I've been avoiding arguing over the opinions of the film, because I don't really care. But to have someone demand that I "do a better job defending the film" was stupid. And I let him know why. People who whine about complainers are worse than the complainers. At least the complainers have a purpose for being here.
People who whine about complainers come off as bitter that people hate "their" movie. Otherwise, they would've already moved on.
90 people voted "excellent" on the poll, and you don't see most of them whining about haters or using lame sarcasm/humor.

Now, why doesn't that same question need to be posed to people giving praise? What's good for the goose is good for the gander, is it not? Essentially, I read that as saying that every statement needs to be prefaced with IMO for the sake of clarity, which is just ridiculous.
Who hasn't moved on yet? And who's bitter? People who don't like complainers, or people who complain about a movie that has been out for well over a year now?![]()
Oh, I'm sorry. Are you the only people on this board?
Now I've been avoiding arguing over the opinions of the film, because I don't really care.

I was specifically referring to this thread, not the entire board.
If you say so.
And, in the process, couldn't resist the urge to complain about everybody who has complained. So how are you better than us?
I'm so confused. I was told to 'defend the film'. I merely posted a response back about how I don't enjoy engaging in debate about the film, because I find the whole thing to be aggravating, and that yes, I find the constant, constant, constant negativity from people who don't like the film.
Now I'm sorry that you, and others may feel offended. I really did not intend to make you feel unhappy. I just wanted to voice my personal feelings. I have no ill intent towards you, or the others who are unhappy. I am certainly not attempting to silence you.
I was moderately insulted at the implication that the only way to be engaged in this thread was to argue about the film. It annoyed me, so I snapped back.
I'm with you.
What the negative people don't seem to understand is that arguing over opinions is useless. They say they didn't like something, we say we did or had no problem with it. Where does that leave us? Right where we started.
It's the implication that if you're not "defending the film" then they must be "right" that kind if bugs me.

Sharing/arguing/discussing opinions is what this entire forum is for. This is a site built for healthy discussion. It's people who can't handle criticism, and people who take criticism too far, that mess up the whole thing. And truth be told I'm seeing more of the former than the latter.I'm with you.

Why do people think Snyder running loose is a good thing?![]()

As for your second point, that's neither here nor there, but this illustrates a problem inherent to a good chunk of the fans (and I'm speaking to the more devout, unreasonable, and oversensitive types; stans, as I prefer to call to call them) around here - they default to a small set of nonsensical, irrelevant fallacies when they're either fed up with the so-called haters, or they have nothing worthwhile to add to an otherwise healthy discussion.
A lot of fans talk a good game about derailing threads with negativity and having opinions respected, but I see more of that from the stans than I do the haters, bar none. The very fact that you feel the need to call someone's intentions into question (along with calling them trolls and haters in the first place) for simply giving their take on a movie is a testament to that. Why not debate the content of their criticisms rather than attack them personally (or better yet, ignore or report them if they're getting under your skin)? Oh, I've got the answer to that, because it's easier (oddly enough) to make things personal instead of debating intelligently. For example, earlier in the thread, someone addressed this by saying that they don't mind a contrarian opinion, but they dismiss troll-like comments such as "this movie is trash, garbage, Elektra bad, etc." In my head, I can't help but wonder what exactly is so inflammatory about such statements. I wouldn't get offended by someone calling a movie I disliked a masterpiece (a statement every bit as extreme), so why in the world is it in any way logical to take the opposite personally? If I sincerely find a movie to fit any of the aforementioned descriptions, and I explain myself in detail (or not, for that matter, it really is the individual's prerogative), then in what way does that make me a troll? Is it only acceptable to call movies like Transformers and The Room trash? Where do we draw the line? The very notion is pure nonsense, but there's more than a fair share of fans that feel that way. The only time it makes sense to get up in arms about someone's comments on a movie are if they directly invoke the fanbase, i.e. "People who like this movie are fools". And while I have indeed seen that from time to time, those sort of comments are most certainly the exception rather than the rule.
I know that it's en vogue to play the victim around here, but there is such a thing as being oversensitive and taking things out of context. This brings me to something else I'd like to point out, and I'm sure someone else has in the past, but it's that fans tend to act however the hell they want, while expecting the highest standards of conduct from those who don't share the same views. It's cool to call people trolls and haters, although not for actually being trolls and haters, but for having one of those coveted opinion things that people like to thump their chests about. This is why I often compare stans to religious fanatics and cultists, because their behavior is far too similar not to notice. Once they believe that God is on their side, they can do no wrong, as every snide remark or backhanded comment is acceptable so long as it's in defense of their God. Judgment is reserved for the heretics and unbelievers, with their every word being overscrutinized and taken out of context at every opportunity. Say something nice about Man of Steel? Oh, you're just a well-meaning fan. Express your displeasure with it, however? Hater, troll, simpleton who can't comprehend the masterpiece; take your pick.
In short, stop taking ownership in the things you like; these movies and characters aren't your kids, so there's no need to get uppity every time someone simply disagrees with you. And if it's the lofty statements you have a problem with, then...tough. If I can't get upset with you for declaring your favorite movie to be superlative (it's preposterous, is it not?), then you can't reasonably be upset when someone gives an honest, albeit negative, opinion.
because it works for me.
