Justice League Ray Fisher Is Victor Stone/Cyborg

You really trust him to give us a complex Cyborg? He couldn't even understand Batman and Superman on anything more than a one-dimensional level.

but.....

I just want him to do cool robot **** and say BOYAHHH and have an attitude.
Isn't that what you want?

I am certainly not going to trust him with Cyborg.
You're not gonna trust him with a character that you clearly don't know jack **** about? :funny:

You sure this isn't less about Snyder being unable to create a complex character and more about you having a preference for your goofy cartoon cyborg because that's all you really have exposure to?

What I want is for Cyborg to be a fun dynamic character in Justice League who pops on screen, and doesn't just sit there with a sad expression on his face the entire time (like Superman in BvS).

I want his emotional Robocop character arc to be kept to a minimum. You know why? Because #1, I don't care that much about Cyborg's Robocop arc to begin with, and #2, I don't trust Zack Snyder or the producers of Justice League to make me care enough about it by focusing a majority of his screen time in Justice League on it.

I want Justice League to be a fun movie. I don't want any more Watchmen style deconstructionist stuff in my mainstream superhero movies (unless you have James Mangold directing them, because he can actually do it properly).

Is this really hard to grasp?

Most of my familiarity with Cyborg comes from the cartoons and video games I've seen him in. I think I've pointed this out already, so yeah... I guess you got me there?

I've not read any New 52 Cyborg. You know what? It doesn't matter if I haven't read any. Because why should I have to in order to enjoy seeing him in the Justice League movie? If I need to be a hardcore read everything comic book nerd to enjoy your superhero movie then maybe something is wrong?

Zack Snyder did say that Cyborg will be the heart of the film. So I think you will be getting a robocop style arc with him whether you like it or not.

Let me ask you a question, Da Scribe. If they didn’t reshoot Cyborg’s scenes to add levity to his character and kept his (if the rumors are to be believed) original humorless incarnation, would that really be so much better than if he cracked jokes all the time? Isn’t too much of anything bad?

Yes it would be so much worse. I love balance, but cracking jokes all the time is stupid to me. Like you pretty much died and lost all of your body breh. Against your will. You should not be happy about that.

For a cartoon aimed at kids, and I mean squarely aimed at kids (which could be enjoyed by all ages, true) the version of Victor in the TT toon was fine. For a live action movie based much more on the comics? Yeah you better give him more than just "Booya" as a personality. You kinda do have to get into the pathos of the character. Not getting into that HUGE part of his character (established in the comics for a very long time, far longer than any animated version of the character) cheapens things immensely in my view. It's like expecting Theon Greyjoy to be a barrel of laughs after his time in the Dreadfort.

cyborg better be robocopped.

this thread making me more hyped for ray fisher's cyborg and wondering what he's gonna bring to the role.

when zack snyder said he's the heart of the movie, i think that's great.

cyborg's probably the most isolated and lost due to his condition - in some ways, he's as much an "alien" to humans as superman is.

it would be cool to see his mini-arc in the movie, where he finds this cool band of misfits and outcasts in the Justice League.
saves the world with them - finally finding his purpose and that he's not as alone as he thought he was - he's now got a family in the JL.

It definitely had a couple of ep/scenes of Cyborg which were more than fine for me. He saw himself as being able to relate to a crippled kid, had that encounter with a garbage dump of machines trying to remove his humanity, and that time he infiltrated HIVE with a holographic disguise.

Which just goes to show that even in the toon aimed at kids they didn't forget the pathos inherent in the character.

Cyborg's very quickly becoming my fave character, dunno why. :woot:

Maaan, his scenes in the trailer are so short except for the red sky fight one.

I'm so psyched for Cyborg. Loving everything I'm seeing so far.

I love that we're getting small scenes like this. Reliving his past memories as a human.

im most curious about how he is handled in the movie more than any other character. I still a floating head look when i see him in full cyborg look but het i still think he looks better than flash.

Awesome dude. I always liked that Ray is kind of the enigma of the cast. Hopefully his career takes off big.

Casting of Ray was a touch of genius. Love this guy.

Ray Fisher spoke with SFX Magazine to discuss some of Cyborg’s story, journey and relationship with his father:

“He’s a college athlete with an IQ of 170 before he even gets cybernetic. So you take a smart guy, make him even smarter. He essentially has his whole world taken away from him. He has his body taken away in a tragic accident, and his father, with whom he has a very sordid relationship, takes it upon himself to graft these cybernetic materials–this Apokoliptian Mother Box–to him.

So that creates a lot more tension within that relationship, the idea that his father wanted him to go into science, and he just wanted to be himself. The idea of Cyborg dealing with his duality just runs throughout the entire course of this film. He’s a bit more serious because he’s only recently, in our version, become Cyborg. So he’s still dealing with what the means.”

He is the one I am the most curious about in terms of handling and what his arc is. Those cards so far are being held back big time.

More from SFX Magazine:

Cyborg's a fairly newer character, so it was easier for me to check out a lot of the source material from The New Teen Titans, which was created back in the 1980s by Marv Wolfman and George Perez. Back at that time, there were a lot of politically charged DC comics, and it was really harrowing to see, because I'd never seen comic books that had that much socio-political commentary. I was extremely surprised to see that, and then see that iteration going through the New 52 version of Cyborg, seeing the variations of that. I think Chris Terrio, our writer, did a phenomenal job of pulling the best parts from all those worlds and making sure that they were represented in a way that hopefully will be impactful and meaningful to the audience.
