Justice League Ray Fisher Is Victor Stone/Cyborg

Shazam is the most unreservedly enjoyable thing to come out of the DCEU thus far, IMO. Probably because it has virtually nothing to do with the rest of the DCEU.

I feel the opposite. I liked the movie, but it felt a little too light for me. I think my main issue was that Levi did not feel like a big version of Asher Angel's Billy. I think if I could buy they were the same character, it would have worked better for me. Interestingly, I thought Asher was the better, more nuanced actor and Levi played Shazam as too arch, too broad, and too humorous for me that it just didn't land for me.

I don't mind DCEU movies having different tones somewhat, so that wasn't the issue. When I really try to pinpoint my issue with the movie, it was the Billy Batson/Shazam dynamic.

The scene where Billy finally found his mom and she not only revealed to have abandoned him, but essentially told him she didn't need him destroyed me. It was Shazam's "How come he don't want me, man?" moment.:waa:

That was rough. Though it did throw a nice curveball into a seemingly predictable plot line.

Adult Shazam should not be showing same personality traits as Billy Batson, as his transformation is basically his wish fulfillment.

Why would a person be burdened with same thoughts and insecurities once gets some super-powers ? Will Freddy Freeman (who's disabled ) be the same person after getting ability of flight ? No, all of them would be much more confident and happy, this much personality change is natural.

It would have felt odd to see Zachary Levi's Shazam still feel sorry for himself even after getting super-powers.

WB is generally bad about keeping any kind of secret. I'm sure just as many conflicts or bad ideas come about at more successful studios...we just don't constantly hear about them.

i think fisher's movie career is over now -- with WB probably 99% over.
he might have chances with other studios...like non tentpole related fare.

but he seems to have accepted that and it's a price he is willing to pay.

Worst case scenario he can work the convention circuit like a lot of genre actors.

Of all the DC movies I’ve seen over the years, that personal moment is what resonates with me the most. Crazy that it comes from a movie geared towards kids/families. I felt some feelings during that for sure. That was real.

If Fisher wants to keep acting, he'll keep acting. Perhaps not on a hyper-high-profile leading role in a blockbuster (at least for a while), but Hollywood's tentacles don't reach everywhere and he's an accomplished theatre actor to boot.

We have to keep in mind that people like Momoa or Gadot don't necesarily want to be actors, they want to be stars, thus the PR ghost is always over their heads because they have to be liked by almost everbody.

in a way, that was the most dark and serious scene of all the dceu movies too.

to find out your own parent abandoned and did not love you?

DARKNESS. NO PARENTS.

I know this is Ray’s thread, but on the Shazam thing...when bald Sinestro threw his brother out the window I legit screamed. Like a shriek. And then the woman next to me was like “Are you okay?” and I responded “Yeah, I’m all good.” But then I realized she was talking to her toddler and not me...a grown ass terrified man.

I did kind of darkly laugh when he threw his brother out the window and then quoted the magic 8 ball with “outlook not so good”.

Not to mention the fact that his mom was clearly in an abusive relationship. Those darker moments in "family" movies always hit hard. They hit you with a doze reality at just the right time.

To segue back to Ray, the never-happening Cyborg movie could've had a lot of great "family" moments too. Early Cyborg is as tortured of a soul as it gets. Young Justice did great with that.

It also shouldn't feel like a completely different character. Also, they pretty much established this version of Shazam as an adult version of Billy (a kid in a grownup's body), similar to Johns run on the character. So why would he still be immature and childish as hell then? I mean, he was MORE immature than Billy.

lol yea, even tho shazam on the surface was a "light" movie.
it had heavy stuff like that -- the villain straight up murdered his own family.

i mean, they were dicks to him, but still.

I thought they could have done more with Sivana, personally. I loved that they started off showing him as a kid and how d**kish his family was. So I thought they would do something with that, make him a bad guy we can at least relate to. But adult Sivana was just irredeemable and mostly 1 dimensional, imo. I just thought they could have made him a villain that was a bit more complex given the opening scene.

Edit: I decided to combine these 2 posts.

Accountability>Entertainment.

How specifically does he want the people he's accusing to be held accountable, considering most of them don't even work for WB anymore and he doesn't appear to want to take this to court, remains unknown. But that's what it means.
Thanks

Billy is still a kid, but he had to face some rough life on the streets, which has taken away joy and happiness from his life, once he transforms with super-powers, he can definitely let go of troubles he's face before and act more freely. Also, he's not fully matured (mentally, not physically) so Shazam will act like a kid.

As for his other more world-weary personality, which he tries to suppress while being Shazam, it can be seen in the movie too, (though it needed to be shown more than once).

I'm conflicted.

I have a lot to say about Shazam!, I didn't like it for a number of reasons and would like to write a detailed explanation why.
However, this I don't like being someone who moans all the time, it's why I stay away from the Shazam forums.
Also, this being the Ray Fisher / Cyborg threa, it feels innapropriate.

I don’t think that we have to worry about losing Momoa.
He still has Aquaman 2 coming up.

Aquaman was the DCEU's biggest hit by far. He has much more leverage here than Ray previously did.

You're downplaying it. Aquaman became WB's 2nd biggest hit ever

Aquaman 2 with Momoa as the lead is the only movie on their docket with a chance at beating DHP2. Momoa is bulletproof

She is an actress who was erased from the theatrical cut and didn't set foot on stage when Whedon took over and all the drama was happening. It almost suggests that they're Snyder buddies whose characters were mistreated rather than something close to the unprofessional and abusive behaviour Fisher has been mentioning. I don't really think it sends the right message. Momoa, on the other hand, that's a different story.
