Justice League Real Talk - Where does the DCEU go from here? - Part 1

Fear mongering? These are comic book movies, not Kim Jong Un.

Nothing right now is full steam ahead. Nothing.

Aquaman will get a release, and will hopefully be good, and I'm sure Wonder Woman 2 is proceeding... but WB will not be full steam ahead on any DC projects for a long time to come.

Well, maybe fear monger is too strong a phrase. But acting like the sky is falling sounds pretty apt.

Justice League suffered because the script and production schedule were finalized without Geoff Johns' input. He didn't help co-write the script like he did on Wonder Woman and Aquaman.

So if big directors like Matthew Vaughn and F. Gary Gray wants to do a MOS sequel or Cyborg, WB would be foolish to deny them. But the studio will impose a budget cap and Johns will certainly co-write the treatments for both films.

I'm very optimistic about future DC movies. Not DCEU movies.

The sky is falling on DCEU movies right now.

The sky kind of is falling on the DCEU though. There's no way around that. It's not hysterical to state just how bad the situation is.

A film like Justice League doing so poorly (relatively speaking) puts the entire DCEU project in danger. This was supposed to be the DCEU Star Wars or Avengers. A huge event movie. These were the biggest characters they had in one movie....and the public didn't care. If I was a Warners Exec whose job depended on greelighting movies people want to see, I'd think long and hard about putting out any DCEU movies right now beyond Wonder Woman 2.

And I'd probably be offering JK Rowling a billion dollars to write some new Harry Potter material to film.

But I think they knew for a while it wouldn't be. They just sent it out to die...I wouldn't say it's the end of DCEU but it's definitely the end of Snyder's DCEU

If they didn't have the success of Wonder Woman movie, the reboot would be so easy. But now it's real problem which I would not want to solve. I will leave that headache to the suits. Though I am sure WW2 and Wan's Aquaman are fine.

Agreed 100%. They anticipated this though perhaps not the box office, but I don't think the BO is going to make them abandon plans completely.

God this thread :lmao:

There's no need for a reboot. Don't need a reboot. Just make good movies. It's as simple as that.

They also have success of Suicide Squad movie, a reboot would mean losing popular iteration of Harley Quinn.

To say nothing of how difficult it is to launch another DC Universe, forget that.. Rebooting Superman franchise is a headache..Nolan got them over that.

Who's going to help them if they want to do another Superman reboot ?

How does that mean the certainty of a reboot?

How much of a success in the long term was Suicide Squad really though? The marketing campaign was genius, and people were hyped to watch it. It made good money in spite of terrible reviews.....but it could easily be one of those sequels that performs significantly worse than the first film, which happens a lot. The bad reviews could do more damage to anticipation the sequel.

That's the problem with the DCEU now. Even greenlighting a sequel to a box office success is now a risk you have to second guess.

You’re a movie company. You’ve just seen millions of dollars lost on a movie franchise.

Are you going to risk millions more on more movies in that same franchise?

Or are you going to kill it off and try something new that hasn’t been rejected by the audience?

JL proves the audience won’t go and see the sequel to a crap movie, even if the first money made a profit. SS2 is dead. Too risky now.

Bingo!

It's 5th movie, did other 4 lose money? And how much is this one set to lose 50 mil in predictions by Forbes? In profitable year for WB?

Are general audiences are not invested in these characters.

94 million opening weekend says it all.....

WW wasn't affected by BvS underperforming and even ****tier RT score. If a movie is good, coupled with good RT score and WOM, people will see it. By your logic, if people aren't invested in these characters, they won't be invested even with a reboot since it'll still be those characters. The only thing praised from JL right now are character interactions and characterizations of the main 6. It would be dumb to not take advantage of that, and even dumber to spend more money to reboot from scratch.

Especially since you further alienate the fans by casting new people. I don't think they can do better casting here, other than Disaster Artist Affleck

Well thats your opinion. The fact is JL opened with 94 million. It's a disaster.

WB won't be going down this same road again.

That's not his opinion, WW proves that it is a fact. People will show up if the reviews and WOM is good.

People talk about a reboot like WB can just burn whatever they have and start again the next year. It doesn't work that way. As it is, Hollywood is saturated with reboots and people are just plain sick of it. If they end the DCEU now, you can expect not to get another DC movie for the next 5 years at minimum - and even then, expect Batman, Superman, Aquaman, Flash and Cyborg to be out of the cards for the next 10-20 years in order to do a full palate cleanse.

Are you sure you want to wait that long?
