Reasons for the disappointing numbers-Discussion

1 and 2 felt pretty much the same even with Silver Surfer's inclusion. Marvel maybe making its dough but it hasnt had a decent flick since '04.

Agreed. Spider-man 2 was the last Marvel that had a lasting impact after seeing it in the theaters. Every movie since then has lacked luster.

Here's my take on the poor performance of F4: RotSS:-

Firstly, the "after-taste" (for lack of a better term) of the 1st movie, which whilst not completely horrible, had its problems.

The non-change as far as a director goes, that can have an effect as to whether people now go to see a movie, especially those who use sites/forums such as this.

The Villains (or lack there-of). Doom by the time he got going then disappears (& the other problem being the focus on Victor Von Doom out of the suit), & well, Galactus was, well, butchered. I know people who deliberately didnt go once they knew Galactus was a cloud/storm thing. Even they knew that was lame.

The poor writing that was a problem in the 1st one, reared its ugly head again here. Take Johnny's change of heart near the end, where the hell did that come from? there was no hint or build-up at all, plus it seemed really out of character. Also, they could have expanded Doom's role. He didnt have to be the main villain here, but should have been a bigger part, not just putting the gear on near the end. He's not sinister enough, nor is he the massive threat he should be.

This franchise needs a reboot (with people that can do the comic justice), not another sequel, thats for sure.

I am sorry but a sequel must happen. I can't wait 10 years for some reboot. Tomorrow is promised to no one. I need me some FF3 ASAP, as in like no later than 2010.

Oh by the way, the delay in announcing FF3 and many other films may be related to the looming creative people strike scheduled for sometime after may 2008. I just heard that that was the hold up on a transformers announcement.

Did ya miss the part where he thought the team was going to break up....how he felt about that.....the fact that he was heartbroken when he overheard. That in and of itself was enough to make him start thinking about family, and how much it really meant to him.

They gave you a perfect "bookend" scene.....the scene before the wedding...his line "let's not make this about me" talking about the wedding....and then he used the same line at the end before they all joined hands (a huge homage to the comics) and he said it again. What more did ya want?

First one sucked. Left the true fans ticked off, not expecting much.

And those not willing to give it a chance since they screwed with alot.

Galactus as a cloud didn't help either.

"true fans"????? please..... some "true fans" enjoyed the first one. Enjoying it doesn't make you a "false fan"....lmao.

More than likely it was the bad aftertaste from the first movie, as well as a crowded summerplace with bigger hyped sequels.

Agreed 100%, all of Marvel's movies since Spidey 2 have been average at best, some like X3 and Elektra being some of the worst movies i have ever seen.

I had hope for 2008 until i read the script review for The Incredible Hulk, that sounds crap as well.

Watched FF2 for the first time since theatres - got the Special Edition disc yesterday as a gift. It's definitely better than the first film even though it still could have been much better. It had some good moments, but in the end, they used the same formula as the first film but with a little more heart....

Maybe they should have waited another year to release this - maybe it was too soon after the disappointment of the first film.

The part I really liked is how they brought Doom back. Though they haven't been doing the character Justice.

Wow, we have a new mod....

I'm so sorry for Chiklis and Jones (they were great), but this team has failed. :csad:

At first I couldn't see it, I thought they just needed a lesson and some time to think, but ROTSS just proved me wrong: the same mistakes (stupid nonsensical humour, like Reed's dance; old-fashioned babbling about marriage; wrong timing, etc).

Even worse: they buried two of the most important Marvel villains, Doom (who is still coward and sneaky, and he should be arrogant and regal) and Galactus (I mean, the cloud). :wow:

And, honestly, I can see no heart. Susan's "death" (who fell for that?) and Johnny's mature "conscience" were handled in a pure cliché way.

Ouch! It hurts to think about it in retrospect.

you love the pain and you know it.....

After thinking about it, I wonder if ROTSS is B grade material. Maybe C. I was comparing it to the utter disappointment I felt after watching SM3, to be fair.

I enjoyed it, and I think the PG rating (I think it should've been a PG-13 because some of the content does push some of the movie into PG-13 territory), word-of-mouth and the short running time did hurt it's overall performance. Now, it has broke even on it's reported $130 million budget and it has fared well overseas, and I think the DVD sales (and the writer's strike) will determine whether Fox will give the greenlight to FF3 and if it does, when it will come out.

Now, I enjoyed FF 1 & 2, it's light-hearted fun and proof that all superhero films don't need to be oh-so-serious. Yeah, they're corny and have plot holes, but they're movies I can veg out on and enjoy as lighthearted entertainment. I'm sort of rooting for a third movie to be announced, but I won't be horribly disappointed if it doesn't.

Obviously Spider-man is going to have more general appeal across the boards b/c it already had more fans. but that's not to say that a virtual unknown couldn't outdo spidey or x-men. i chalk it up to a mediocre script and horendous acting. the storyline was fine and graphics and action were sweet. but the banter was almost unbearable at times.

Short running times do NOT hurt movies according to the Hollywood brass. More screenings during the day = more money.

Yet "Titanic" made a ton of money with a longer running time. Watching a movie with a lot of water and not having an intermission was brutal esp if you have a drink cup the size of a rain barrel. :woot:

^^ At fox, researchers say normal bowel movements must factor prominently in decisions about a movie's run time, Meanwhile Fox execs say their concern for the little kiddies not having to miss a moment of enjoyment is the reason all their future pg rated films will be held to 60 minutes, and pg-13 movies will be no longer than 1 and a 1/2 hrs.

In a related story, Fox announced today that the new FF movie: By Ben Betrayed will not include the leaked 5 second scene where the Wingless Wizard revealed that it was him and not the Puppet Master who duped the Thing into attacking his teammates. Tom Rothman indicated that would put the movie at 90 minutes 5 seconds, his reasoning:

Rothman "That would put the movie over our in house rule of no longer than 90 minutes for a pg-13 rating, it can be under but not over, the pain it would cause kiddies everywhere would weigh on my conscience too much"

And in further breaking news, Cardinal Burke of St Louis who refused communion to John Kerry over his support of abortion has done the same to Tom Rothman of Fox studios, his reasoning, ....... "he is worried about Rothman's soul", ......."even the devil", Burke said, "mixes in a little truth with his lies"

Reason for the dissapointing numbers? Hmmm....

Here's one: THE MOVIE FLAT OUT SUCKED!
