I am a major advocate of the second film. I love the FF book. I love the source material... I own every issue.
But... I still really love FF:Rise of the Silver Surfer.
Does it have plenty of flaws? Sure. Does some of the story border on banality? Absolutely. Do I wish Doom leaned more toward the Latveria/room full of monitors characterization? No doubt.
But, it's a fun movie with a good, wide scope in terms of locations, sets, etc.
For what I was looking for in a film (that I didn't expect to be Citizen Kane... nor would I expect a flawless interpretation of FF... they hadn't yet nailed doing faithful adaptations to the level of Iron Man yet) the pros outweighed the cons in terms of putting a bare minimum FF on the screen. I loved the improvements in Ben, Johnny & the steps taken to salvage Doom. I loved the Fantasticar and Norrin. I loved the sets and locations. I liked the dialogue that worked... and no, not all of it did. It wasn't as awful as some people make it out to be. It's not Catwoman.
And, I suppose my reasoning is this: If this is all we get from the production team until something 'perfect' comes along... well, I'm not going to complain that I actually got
something.
Plenty of room for improvement... but since there are no other films with the Fantastic Four (take this how you will

) & Norrin for me to watch, I'm happy to have what
little there is to watch until the hypothetical 'something better' actually gets here.
