Reasons for the disappointing numbers-Discussion

I hope they bury this franchise deep and for good. At once.

Really? Spider-Man 3 had it's many faults but saying FF2 was better is insulting.

The only movies I'd put under FF2 is maybe, Elektra, and GhostRider.

Okay, I know but i just don't think people should give up on the FF. I really thought Spiderman 3 was awful. The special effects were cool, but other than that it stunk, but did have better story then FF2.

Yeah but if Spiderman and Spiderman 2 were like making love to 2 beautiful women, Spiderman 3 was their homely looking sister.

FF and FF2 was like tranny in the back alley behind a club. :(

The FF movies were poor, the rights need to go back to Marvel, who hopefully can do an intellegent adaptation (although TIh seems pretty dumbed down to be fair).

I was wondering if Marvel would consider buying back the rights now that they made a **** load of money off of Iron Man. Buy back the rights, make a proper Fantastic Four movie. Let Joss Whedon direct, Alexis Denisoff star as Mr. Fantastic...it could be amazing.

The thing wrong with this movie was, it was too short. Towards the end, the galactocloud was coming, and i didn't feel the impact of it, i mean, the world is about to be eaten, and i just felt like, "whatever". Also the Fantastic four is a team, and johnny used all their powers to fight dr.doom, instead of them all doing it. The action was also another flaw. Idk, to me, the makers of the movie seemed to take every easy way out throughout this movie.

At the times that the FF movies came out, I thought they were fine. They seemed to reach the same level of quality we saw from the barrage of Marvel movies coming out. But now that Iron Man has raised the bar (and in my mind, began a new age of Marvel movies - Howard the Duck up to the unreleased FF was the first age, Blade to FF2 was the second age, and Iron Man started the new age), I think it would be best to reboot the FF and bring it up to the level of Iron Man.

I can see how people get sick of everyone putting Iron Man up on a pedestal. but you gotta admit... it was a damn good movie.

Ironman was totally awesome. I like how you put the movies in to ages. Just like the comics. Thats a real good way to look at. Some people like the first age, others like the second age and some like the third age.

Yeah but you have Iron Man towards to top end of the spectrum and FF between the bottom and 1/3 up?

FF should have been on par with Spider-Man, X-Men, Iron Man but you shouldn't even say them in the same sentence unless you add the words "not as good as".

Funny stuff...first (FF) one was hideous, the second one kinda of redeemed itself. But if any comic book movie needs a do-over, it's Daredevil and Elektra.....Ghost Rider would have been better with a younger actor.Nicolas Cage cannot play every character in Hollywood, who ever casted him in Ghost Rider should be "stoned".

FF 2 was sightly better in quality but anything even mediocre would look great when the previous movie lowered expectations to freezing point in the first place.

Lowered expectations is much easier to do then making a good movie. Fox chose to do the latter.

A good FF movie shouldn't need that to be good quality for anyone IMO.

Agreed.

The only thing good about the Fantastic Four franchise was Human Torch and The Thing. Silver Surfer was made well, but making the board the source of his power was ridiculous. It's a shame the director made it so campy instead of making it feel more natural and having genuine fun with it. Both movies had awful story resolutions.

A reboot in 8 years after Marvel gets the rights back would work

I think the main problem was that the 1st movie was very, very bad (IMO) and that would have left a bad taste in many peoples mouths. I had no desire to sit through a sequel but my friend, who is a fan dragged me to see it.

I give up

I am a major advocate of the second film. I love the FF book. I love the source material... I own every issue.

But... I still really love FF:Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Does it have plenty of flaws? Sure. Does some of the story border on banality? Absolutely. Do I wish Doom leaned more toward the Latveria/room full of monitors characterization? No doubt.

But, it's a fun movie with a good, wide scope in terms of locations, sets, etc.

For what I was looking for in a film (that I didn't expect to be Citizen Kane... nor would I expect a flawless interpretation of FF... they hadn't yet nailed doing faithful adaptations to the level of Iron Man yet) the pros outweighed the cons in terms of putting a bare minimum FF on the screen. I loved the improvements in Ben, Johnny & the steps taken to salvage Doom. I loved the Fantasticar and Norrin. I loved the sets and locations. I liked the dialogue that worked... and no, not all of it did. It wasn't as awful as some people make it out to be. It's not Catwoman.

And, I suppose my reasoning is this: If this is all we get from the production team until something 'perfect' comes along... well, I'm not going to complain that I actually got something.

Plenty of room for improvement... but since there are no other films with the Fantastic Four (take this how you will :cwink:) & Norrin for me to watch, I'm happy to have what little there is to watch until the hypothetical 'something better' actually gets here.
