Reboot: Character Portrayal

They dont have to show the actors face, they could just show someone sitting at the desk (just their torso) with the ring passing by it with clark kents name written on the desk. It's really that simple, I don't know why some of you get all up in arms, about it, its an easter egg if anything.

Yea i said it like that too months back solidsnake either cover a stunt actor's face/most of his body, or just show his empty desk and show in some way we just missed him. If its to be still in the film. If not and the whole superman situation hasnt been solved before the gl folks plan to shoot that squence then might has well drop it and place a different cameo like how their is that guy one, maybe make a mention to kyle and/or john in place of supes.

Because Wikipedia is right 100% of the time? I'll point out at one stage before the Kryptin (the tin box set with 13 or 14 DVD discs i.e. "Ultimate Superman Collection") Wikipedia said "The Science of Superman" was going to be on one of them. It wasn't.

Okay and? Just because someone makes one mistake their wrong all the time? Get over it dude.

SO the idea is that Hal is the rings SECOND choice after Superman? That'd be a great idea. Finally WB and DC puts out a non-Super or Bat-based movie and the main character is immediately made second best. GREAT idea.

Maybe someone could read a newspaper and then say "Written by Clark Kent."

My point was some things written in Wikipedia can be based off rumour and aren't set in stone. Things change and don't get your hopes up.

Unless you're calling for the Hype community to make a prediction, shouldn't this thread be titled 'SHOULD Superman appear in Green Lantern?' ?

And I say he should only appear briefly if at all and I don't really care if Routh plays him or if they get someone else for that cameo. I think a mention or a pic in a newspaper/news show would be enough to cement that Hal, Clark, and Bruce live in the same universe.

Has anyone heard if there are any Batman easter eggs in the movie?

Think of it more as the ring rejecting Clark in favor of Hal. :yay:

Read my posts again. What the hell about them makes you think I'm obsessed with post-crisis? I specifically said that I didn't think Byrnes approach would work.

Just for the record ... Byrne was still experimenting at the beginning of MOS. When he had Clark first show up in Metropolis, he was looking pretty much like some kind of yuppy. He had driving gloves and a plaid driving hat. That went away by the very next issue. In it's place, the character became a regular but kind of laid back and quiet guy who even played some football in high school. It was really Ordway and company who took it further. The long haired Clark was something I thought was a mistake ... and I have long hair... but that was long after Byrne had left.

It takes a real man/woman to say this. :yay:

Please tell me, what didn't you like about Lois's characterization in SR?
I just found her boring. I did not like the relationship she had with Clark, which was pretty none exsistant. He had been gone for 5 years and she did not seem to give a **** that he was back. I prefer the versions played by Magot Kidder and Teri Hatcher and the relationship they both had with Clark. Both versions had a good relationship with CK, a profesional rivalry but you could tell they cared for him. I want Lois to be able to fall in love with Clark Kent.

How many people really know what Clark Kent looks like? He lives in a world with a Lex Luthor, a Superman, various rampaging maniacs pretty much daily! How many people are going to to stop and look at Clark Kent, whether he's bumbling or not. I always liked how they put it in Batman/Superman when Supergirl got there and their looking at the Superman memorial statue, this majestic brilliant gold statue of this larger than life character with the most straight forward symbol of our nation and all the ideals that we hold near and hope to spread to world perched on his forearm and she looks at him and says "This is how they see you?", "no wonder they never figured it out".

Frankly there is no reason why Clark Kent needs to be anything but an average man. He should be clumsy, we all are. He should be goofy, we all are. He should be shy, most of us are. That doesn't mean he can't be sarcastic or funny or charming. It just means he should appear normal. Yeah he puts on the glasses as a distracting feature, he changes his body language, he weakens his voice. He does after all work in the bull pen at one of the top newspapers in the country, not only that but he's one of the star reporters of that paper. Those people are the professionals at sniffing out the news but even they seem him as if he were a god. He is omnipresent to them. They have no reason to suspect he is ever anyone but Superman. They trust him completely. The believe in him. To them, to everyone, Superman could never be Clark Kent.

I agree with everything in this statement.....

BRAVO!

i liked the way he was portrayed in SR. Clumsy and bit nerdy, but not over the top like Reeve's Clark was. I think it's better to continue the way Routh's Clark was. Maybe he can be a little, just a little less nerdy, but you need to do something where you cannot believe these are the same two people.

I agree.

from reading this thread, it seems like only man of tommorow and the guard have the right idea concerning clark

Everyone else is too obsessed with post crisis...which is ironic, because these same people will bash singer for being obsessed with one version of supes....

Hurray. "The Batman" comes to bless us with his presence and assessment of the situation.

I'm in agreement with The Democrat. I like to see to see Clark portrayed as nothing but an average man. He's shy, confident, goofy, intelligent, humbled, mild mannered, funny, friendly, a little country. For me, both Clark and Superman are both real and fake in some manner. Depending on if he's wearing the glasses or cape, he plays up different parts of his personality and what's fitting for his situation.

Thing is, I don't want him so shy and unassuming, that it makes it a bit unbelievable that he is a good competitive reporter. I'd rather Lois and Clark start out as the top talents, either one could find the next big lead. Through this is a mutual respect, and friendship develops. Now out of this respect, they may have some feelings they don't talk about. Clark knows his feelings early on and tells his parent(s).

There is nothing wrong with him being a man, a patient one, but still a man. For example, (ya got to do it) in L&C there is an episode with enhanced boxers. One of them taunts Clark into the ring. He keeps taking swings trying to intimidate him. Finally he says "What are you going to do about it Princess?" and Clark then pushes him back and says "You might be surprised"

 :D

Same here. It's the most realistic way. He can be a little nerdy and clumsy (which is a lot of fun, imo) and still be a competent reporter.

Also, we need to remember that the mainstream go to a Superman movie to see well Superman. It's not called Clark Kent: The Movie for a reason. :cwink:

Which doesn't mean we need to omit the Man. Sometime it's interesting to see him in a situation as Clark, where he can't do anything without blowing his cover. Or just seeing him as a normal guy without needing to save the world every 5 seconds.

Tony Stark appeared in the Hulk, no one complained. I wouldnt mind Clark Kent appearing at some point in the movie, it would be pretty cool. And you could use Tom Welling! mwhaha
