Reeve on The Batman " it’s not part of the extended universe"?? your preference??

Borys_Kit of THR tweeted that Ben won't star in The Batman then he deleted it. So idk if he tweeted that too early or got it wrong.

He's referring to this article, which now has this update:

An earlier version of this story stated that Matt Reeves' The Batman was part of Warner Bros.' new label and would star a new actor as Batman, but it is unclear where that project will fall.

Well the way I see it, if they are using the same actors to play the various characters, then the story is definitely set in the DCEU. Now the story itself may not do anything to expand the DCEU on-going storyline or do any world building within that universe, but I'd say the story is definitely set within the universe.

look, it’s a standalone, it’s not part of the extended universe.’”

...

"The Batman" could be one big flashback movie with a younger actor as Batman.

When/If Justice League 2 comes out Affleck returns to portray older Batman?

Affleck would be in the DCEU but not in "The Batman".

That would balance things out(not perfectly)

I don't want Batman to spend the next decade hunting for space artifacts.

...and when you think about it, keeping Batman away from Justice League makes business sense.

JL universe over here for the younger audience, with all the whizz-bangery and cgi nonsense.

Batman universe over there for the older audience, with more serious, grounded stories.

Much money.

It's completely plausible to make a Batman movie with Affleck that takes place entirely in Gotham and away from everything in JL.

I'm hoping this is more a Logan situation and less like they are completely rebooting Batman yet again.

I've waited my entire life to see Batman interact with the DCU on the big screen. I'm not at all a fan of splitting him back off into his "own" universe. Has nothing to do with cgi whizzbangery. The DCEU take on Batman is as legit, if not moreso, than all that came before.

I wasn't crazy about Reeves from the start as the Apes films aren't my cup of tea, and not having this tied into the greater DCEU (which is what I've been wanting ever since the first tease of Batman-Superman back in the day) makes me lose interest even further. If it is closer to this being in the past before the birth of the DCEU then ok, but if it is completely divorced then I guess good for those of you that don't want it mixed; but overall this whole experience is souring my tastes for DC unfortunately.

I don't see what Reeves said as announcement of a new direction, but we shall see.

if it's not tied to the DCEU, then what's the whole point of starting this shared DC universe?

if they are doing a Joker/Harley film starring Jared and Margot, but also a stand-alone Joker origin film that's totally separate and not starring Jared, then what's the point of a shared DC universe?

There isn't one. They should have kept them all seperate, and not tried to copy Marvel. Maybe they're starting to realise that.

Lets be honest, regardless of what they say, it appears they do not know what they want to do.
They do MOS to set the path, they then follow it up with a semi sequel that shoe horns Batman and WW in, they botch the biggest superman storyline there is.

They then introduce suicide amongst rewrites, they then say the tone will shift for JL, now they hint to a possible change in time lines with paradox and ousting Batfleck, now a new banner is rumoured/introduced that will focus on solo projects.

Call Marvel what you like, but at least they kept it together - sure a few movies of theirs have been disappointing, but you can see it's one big universe with a plan in place.

DC should have followed MOS up with a proper sequel to fully establish Superman, instead of BvS.

Suicide Squad could have been this amazing introduction to Gotham, to show how it contrasts to Metropolis - the GCPD could have had a larger role, highlighting James Gordon and batman could have been introduced in the 3rd person so we see, learn why Gotham is the way it is and Batman would have the mystery surround him. Basically cut the screen time of his from BvS, put it in Squad with rewrites - Boom, world building.

WW as it is, that was a good movie that stands on its own as an origin. So then here we are now, August 2017, Superman the main player in the world with both WW and Batman introduced. Honestly, i never thought i would be saying all this, but DC really have, imho, dropped the ball.

Superman to the GA is dead, after 2 films - no shirt rip, no heroic finale saving a city with lots of civilians - sure the movie buff will dissect what we have already had and say it was a great example, but lets not kid ourselves. Batman is an established miserable f**k that wasted 2 years plotting to kill the greatest thing to happen to earth since well, JHC.
oh well.

There should've been a proper Batman movie to set up Batman as well.

agreed.

it really feels like they are just throwing **** at the wall and trying to see what sticks.

I liked MOS. I loved WW. I even enjoyed BvS for what it's worth.

but if you aren't going to stick to a shared cinematic universe, then all of this was for nothing.

especially with Superman, as he was robbed of a proper movie franchise of his own.

MOS was largely stand alone. But instead of following that up with proper sequels with MOS 2 and MOS 3, they shoehorn Batman and WW and the rest of the JL to set up the DCEU in BvS.

I read that Affleck won't be Reeves Batman, which gives me hope.
I also read that some of the Justice League reshoots involve killing off Affleck's Wayne and that would be a dream come true!

In my comments from a while back about not being part of the DCEU, I was talking about The Batman being a story specifically about Batman...

...not about the others in the Universe. That it wouldn't be filled with cameos servicing other stories -- that it would be a BATMAN story.

..............

What's that? The simplest and most logical explanation turned out to be correct?

Surprise, surprise.

Of course, people take all this click bait **** so serious when it comes to the DCEU.

Could be damage control. But I'm good with it as long as there's no cameos. Sick of that crap.
