How many times do you hear of sex discrimination lawsuits against companies with the complaint of "they promote men faster/instead of women!" but no one ever asks the obvious question: Who was better qualified?

And something else that I've never heard anyone say: Isn't getting promoted because you're a woman, not because you're qualified, just as sexist as if the company really WAS promoting unqualified men instead of qualified women?

This is a dangerous train of thought. If I'm not mistaken, Derek Vinyard's dad from American History X used this exact same argument to justify racism in the face of affirmative action.

If you think about it, this sexism toward men is noticeable only for its relative rarity. Honestly, how often do you actually see a woman acting sexist toward a man? Compare that to how often you see a man acting sexist toward a woman.

kainedamo mentioned the character of Samantha from Sex & the City as an example of a female sexist. What about the countless numbers of male characters on TV or film that exist for the sole purpose of being a "ladies man" and perhaps offering comic relief? How many guys do you know in real life go out weekend after weekend for no other reason than to score women? My ex-roommate, who I went to high school with, has slept with over a hundred women in the past four years with no regard for them as people, just as sexual objects. Doesn't that seem a little sexist?

When you look at it that way, you can almost justify sexism toward men as female empowerment. Of course, that doesn't mean that the psychological abuse mentioned earlier is alright, but on the whole I think that men receive far less sexism than we give out.

I work security at our casino, and I will say this:

MOST of the situations that happen (fights, verbal arguments, etc.) are drunk females screaming at the males or hitting the males. Half the time its the females fighting other females. I thought it was just Michigan with the females being more crazy than the males, I guess I was wrong lol.

My gf gets insanley jealous over my female friends (most of whome I graduated high school with a long time ago). She rips into me everytime a girl leaves me a comment on myspace, but when a guy leaves her a comment (very flirtatious might i add) its all fine and dandy. Very hypocritical. She also has this "men are below women" feminazi mentality thats bugs the hell out of me because shes so immasculating. Some people find it funny but it really isnt, it cuts self esteem down just so the girl can feel better about herself.

I cant wait until my lease is up, thats all I gotta say.

A lot of terrible chick stories here, but I do have to ask: why not just break up with a person that's emmasculating or abusive or any of that? If you identified the problem, know you're unhappy with it but don't do anything whose fault does it become? This cuts both ways. If you don't like someone just tell them what a joke of a human being they are and walk away. Nothing will get under someone's skin more than that.

Lack of self esteem. Some feel this is what they deserve and the best that they can do. Others, it could be a sense of "comfortableness" and in inabilty to make change.

I totally agree. If a chick is with a guy that she hates or is abusive and just keeps with him she's facilitating the problem as well. Honestly most relationships in my life I've ran from screaming. Sure you get the inevitable slap and house trashing and multiple 3 AM phone calls either crying or screaming at you but it's way better than actually dealing with that person directly in your life.

Just my opinion but I cannot even listen to my friends when they ***** and whine about something they hate in their lives that they can easily change. Cancer, that's a problem. Being with someone you don't like, that's your choice.

Let me tell you about sexism aimed at men.

When I was in college, I was a student teacher at a local junior high school. The teacher that was assigned to be my mentor was a bitter, dried up old b**** who was totally inappropriate in her hatred of men. She had two signs up in her class room (with 13 to 14 year old students). One was "Of course woman dont work as hard as men do. They do it right the first time." And "In 1492, Columbus went looking for China and found the New World. Typical man. He wouldnt ask for directions."

Then there was how she and I got along. We didnt. She looked over my shoulder at everything I did and never approved of anything. She liked to make barely veiled jokes about men at my expense. The class was discussing advertising and a student mentioned a TV commercial that showed a young blond woman working out on a machine while a male voice described a companies insurance policies. The student said it was a really stupid commercial and the teacher agreed. She then grinned at me and asked the class, "We should ask Mr ****** if he remembers the commercial." I laughed and said, "Yeah I remember it." She shook her head and said "Typical red blooded American male."

Actually racism and sexism can happen regardless of race or sex.

If a bittered old man hating crow like the one in Demogoblin's post, makes several degrading and cutting remarks aginst you because you are a man, that's sexist.

If a bunch of black people make fun of a white person because he's white, dancing, nerdy talk etc., that's racist.
