If a comic book movie is loved by movie critics yet hated by the fans of the comics, who's opinion is more valued?

Neither, I will happily judge myself but if I had to choose I would pick critic's because they don't nit/pick at every scene and shot.

Oddly enough, I can't think of too many movies where there was a marked divergence between critics and fans of the original material. The only ones are Superman Returns, which many critics loved but I sense that not a lot of people on these boards shared that opinion, and Blade 1-2, which were generally dismissed as a meaningless action movies by film critics but are generally favourably viewed by comic fans to this day.

Form your own opinions people, don't let critics tell you what you like.

It's not about forming your own opinions, it's about not wasting your money on something you'll end up hating. Most people look to reviews to find out whether they should see a movie, not to find out how they should feel after having seen it. So, if you read a review saying a movie sucked, but your friend told you it was great, who would you trust?

I'd sooner trust a fellow comic book fan. I mean, it only makes sense. I have more in common with the fans (since you know, i AM one) than with the critics, so my opinion is more likely to coincide with the fans.

No they don't. Most people listen to critics for the same reason we come to these boards....To hear the opinion of others in comparison to our own. People have usually made their mind up on whether they want to see something regardless of anyone else's. Do you think that even if a majority of critics end up saying Spider-man 3 is bad, it will deter people that come to this board from seeing it in any way shape or form? Not likely. I know I woud still see it.
It's why Ebert and Roeper's show (former Siskel and Ebert) does so well. It has the gimmick of pitting two people against one another that may have differing opinions, and allowing them to debate. For a movie fan, that in itself is entertainging to watch.

Neither.... both are biased as hell in their own ways.

Critics will only look favorably on a superhero movie if it takes the deep, dramatic approach of movies like Spider-Man 2, Batman Begins and Superman Returns, which isn't always right for every character. While the majority of comic fans will just automatically hate the movie and rip it apart for all of its existing or even non-existing flaws no matter what. :p

Critics hated Star Wars
I loved star wars
Fans loved starwars
In the end noones opinion matters though, because I liked it.

A lot of people are swayed by critics, quite often they can be right, but sometimes they can't, they loved Batman by Burton, and rightfully so!

I think critics pick up on glaring mistakes, but the feel of certain films must be left to the individual, Hellboy for instance fell under the critic radar even though it's awesome! Phantom was a good film, and a few critics picked up on it more than fans!

It varies from film to film, it's too hard to say who's right, I always review a film myself before looking at other fan and critic reviews.

yeah it's my opinion that truelly matters, i'll give each one a fair viewing...

unfortunately hype posts tend to taint things if i go into spoiler sections before hand but i now know to stay well clear before a film comes out.

Most underrated comic film?

Most overated film?

From both critics and fans? I reckon that Hellboy is hugely underrated by everyone!!! Any batman begins is probably the most overrated, by everyone again!

Neither.

Opinion is opinion is opinion.

Don't worry about other opinions. Respect them, have faith in your own.

What matters is that if you like the movie that's it. I read a critic who hated Batman Begins but found Batman And Robin better for some reason so who cares like I said if you like it nothing matters.

I like to compare critics' opinions w/my own. I actually keep track of some of their reviews. The following are some comic book movies that Ebert & I both liked:
Spider-Man 2
V for Vendetta
Blade 1 & 2
Hulk
Daredevil
Batman Begins
X2
X3
TMNT

I liked these but he didn't:
Spider-Man
FF
Punisher
X-Men
Blade Trinity (albeit to a lesser extent)

He thought more highly of the following than I did:
Spawn

Neither of us were crazy about:
Elektra
Some posters like to use critics' opinions to authenticate their own, when they agree. Some like to badmouth people & attack critics when they don't. But in the end, you do have to form your own opinion. What doesn't hurt, though, is reading their reviews in full to see WHY they do or don't like a particular movie.

I'm only interested in other's opinions after I have formed my own opinion.

What if you're on the fence & haven't decided whether or not you're gonna go see it?

Nobodys opinion matters except your own.

IMO, Nacho Libre was the best movie this summer and seen it 3 times (seen X3 & SR as well, X3 was decent, SR disappointing) however many may not share this sentiment. Do I care? F$%k no.

Opinions (reviews) are like ********s, everyone's got one - but in the end, it's just your own that matters.

I don't trust critics. Just myself to evaluate if the movie is good or not.
