After paying close attention to the movie last night, I am comfortable saying that I don't believe Rey is of the Skywalker bloodline.

Key points:

*She remembers who left her on Jakku as a child and believes that they will return for her one day. And even after she learns that BB-8 is carrying a map to Luke Skywalker she still wants to go back to Jakku to wait for them.

*Maz tells her that the person who left her on Jakku are the past and that Luke Skywalker is the future, which suggests that they are not connected.

*She's been trained in hand to hand combat and how to fly, presumably by her former guardian, but not to use the Force. She did not know that she was Force sensitive until Luke's old lightsaber awoke the Force within her.

*From a practical standpoint, what are the odds that BB-8 would've encountered another Skywalker? It requires a suspension of disbelief beyond reasonable limits imo.

So what does all this say about who she is? Virtually nothing, except that it suggests she is not in any way related to the "Chosen One". I just don't think we're supposed to be able to surmise her back-story.

So explain why she is in the vision which only contains Skywalkers if she isn't a Skywalker.

Responses to the above are as follows:
1. We don't know how much of that she actually remembers. the film is incredibly vague about her "family". ti is never actually stated that she is waiting for her "parents". It is also well-established that the Force can be used to affect someone's mind. In addition, we are talking about a small child here. Memories are fallible and Daisy Ridley has essentially stated in interviews that Rey doesn't remember the whole story. Rey doesn't even know her own real name. It has been stated that she "calls herself Rey".

2. I admit that Maz's wording is troubling to anyone who believe that Luke left her on Jakku. However, depending on whether Rey is a Solo or a Skywalker, just because Luke wasn't the one who left her on Jakku doesn't mean he isn't her father or uncle. She could have been left there by her mother or another family member like a brother or cousin.

3. The same was true of Anakin and Luke.

4. The Force works in mysterious ways. What are the odds that R2 and #P0 would just so happen to be bought by Uncle Owen and Luke, who are directly tied to Obi-Wan, who they are searching for? This is a space fantasy where series where events are often driven by providence. Also, if Lors' discovery of the map is somehow related to his presence on Jakku, then it make perfect sense that the Skywalker heir happens to be in the same place.

5. Interviews with Kathleen Kennedy have made it very clear that the main Star Wars Saga is about the Skywalker family. The second teaser also made that clear and particularly hinted that one of the new heroes is related to Luke. If Rey is not related to the Skywalker clan, then Lucasfilm has made a major error in how they have marketed this film.

Maz's words are not a problem. She says whoever Rey is waiting for isn't coming back for her on Jakku. This is true no matter who her parents are. Rey has to leave, to find her family herself.

So explain why she is in the vision which only contains Skywalkers if she isn't a Skywalker.

That didn't seem like it meant anything. Its just an affect. Like when Charles Xavier walks around inside people's minds.

** She herself doesn't know who her parents are so what does that have to do with her wanting to stay on Jakku? She doesn't know Luke is her father until Maz drops the hints. She remembers having a "family" at one point, but not who they are or what they looked like.

**Thats not what Maz meant by her quote. She meant, using other words, "If you want to know who your family is and what you're supposed to be doing with your life, staying on Jakku is not going to give you that. But if you want to know the truth and change your life, you're going to have to leave Jakku".

** This point actually backfires your theory and proves more so that Rey is a Skywalker lol.

** Fate? Destiny? The will of the Force? That's how things usually work in the Star Wars films.

I am talking about Rey seeing her little self in the vision, as whoever dropped her off on Jakku flies away. Rey sees a vision of Vader, Luke, Kylo and herself.

I stand by my theory that she is Kylo Ren's little sister and also a student of Luke's. She was put on Jakku when Ben revolted, which in guessing was about 10-15 years prior to the start of the movie, and her memories were repressed by use of The Force. This helps explain a lot!
-Why Kylo Ren was so emphatic when he asked, "What girl?" when he was told who helped Finn.
-Why she knew her way around the Millennium Falcon.
-Why she was even aware of the Jedi mind trick.
-How she was proficient with the lightsaber.

I think she's too young to be Obi-Wan's daughter, but I'd love that idea...

I like this theory, only as Luke's daughter rather than Han & Leia's. That's all this trilogy needs is for two main characters to find out they're brother and sister like Empire Strikes Back lol! More "rehash" criticism.

Well, for some reason she is convinced that these people will return for her some day.

she also hears Yoda and Obi-Wan, both masters to Luke and Anakin, and also possibly hears Padme Skywalker crying.

Well, for some reason she is convinced that these people will return for her some day.

could be just longing and wishful thinking on her part even though, as Maz pointed out, Rey deep down knows it's true that they won't come back.

or perhaps it could be the result of a powerful Jedi Mind Trick that implanted the suggestion to "wait for her family" or else altered her memory somehow.

Strange that Ren never mentions any of his kin. He even says to her that she has not been trained. And one would think the Solos would remember having a niece or a daughter.

-Why she knew her way around the Millennium Falcon.

*Shrugs*

-Why she was even aware of the Jedi mind trick.

Someone could've told her about a Jedi's abilities.

-How she was proficient with the lightsaber.

A mix of Jedi reflexes and PIS. Not the only example.

SNOKE: "The daughter of Skywalker must not become a Jedi!"

in regards to her using Jedi abilities like Mind Trick, it seemed kind of obvious that she had her "awakening" once she touched the saber, or more specifically, once she came in close proximity to it.

then, her usage of the Force started to get more and more powerful. Even Kylo said the longer she's free, the more dangerous she'll become.

it's also possible that she had prior training and now all of that's is flooding back to her.

SNOKE: "The daughter of Skywalker must not become a Jedi!"

Emo Kylo Ren: "It's too late!! I love her!! I love her even though she may be my long lost kid cousin or sister and even though she slashed my face and bruised my ego and even though she took my grandfather's lightsaber which should really be mine. I love her!!!"

cue soap opera music........

Not of Ren thinks her dead and the Solos are getting to protect her from the Dark Side, a la Luke and Leia.
She's able to know so much about a ship she has no memory of ever being on. Think along the lines of muscle memory
Someone could've told her about a Jedi's abilities.
Possibly but, by this film Jedi are myth/legend.

PIS? Again, going back to muscle memory. If she had been in training as a pilot and a Jedi, only to have those memories/abilities repressed, they could resurface under the right conditions.

Rey knowing her way around the MF could be as simple as the MF was a junk ship she's been on a few times since she, you know, lived and worked by it since she was 5 and left on Jakku (or however long it's been sitting there lol). There's no reason to believe she's never been on that ship since its been parked there for years. She says it hasn't been flown in years herself, so she must have been on it as a kid just to explore it or whatever. I think it's that simple.

Yeah, it was pretty clear that she had been on/worked on the MF at some point. She hadn't flown it before though.

If Rey entered the MF for the first time and started having a vision of it as a kid, MAYBE I'd be inclined to believe she's Han and Leia's. But no, she had a vision when she touched Luke's lightsaber. It really couldn't be anymore onvious!

True that she's never flown it before, but the girl grew up near an Imperial and Republic shipwreck. It is perfectly believable that she learnt how such vehicles operated since she is a scavenger collecting parts. She even fixes a part of the MF much to Han's surprise. And Han owned that ship for years
