Am I the only one who got a 'Conan' vibe when Riddick was crowned king?

No, I definately noticed it and I think it was intended for the audience to notice it. I think it was intended originally that in the next movie Riddick would go into the Underverse after Kyra. Obviously that was scrapped when the last movie flopped.

Oh well, at least we are getting another Riddick movie.

Heh, Twohy sure likes to off the women. When the female cast and their respective characters is announced we should make bets on who's biting the dust in this one.

I really liked the last Riddick movie. I'm very much into over-the-top, stylized sci-fi.

I liked the over-the-topness too. But I lacked the edge of the smaller first film. And again, Riddick wasn't that interesting as a character in CoR; watered down.

I liked both Riddick films. I still don't get why Chronicles of Riddick did poorly at the box office. I at least give credit to Twohy for trying to expand the story and create a new sci-fi universe. There were things I didn't like in Chronicles-particularly that whole Furyan prophecy thing-but I thought the Necromongers were pretty cool, and I loves me some Dame Vaako. Looking forward to the third film. I hope it redeems the franchise and we get a fourth.

^Yeah, I hope this movie gets the franchise back on track and into the successful zone again so we can get more movies.

Because it was a big budget sci-fi B-movie and it looked like a B-movie to general audiences.

The first movie was sort of a cult hit and was this cool, violent gritty sci-fi flick with a really cool antihero character sort of reminiscent of say a Snake from Escape From New York.

The trailers tried to make Riddick look like Neo. That didn't work.

What's this new one called? I love the Riddick character. Best thing Vin has ever done and probably will do

Riddick 2 should have been 2 movies ...

Part I Riddick captured , sent to cremetoria, necromongers (scarier and more sub human) arrive and the rest of the movie deals with escape from cremetoria.

Part 2- Riddick tracks down Necromongers and saves that planet.

I love that series though...cheesy but gold

a R rated Riddick movie ? give me the date and trailer .........and then maybe.....you have my permission to die.

Glad to know its got the harder rating, the Directors Cut of CoR was so much better than the TC it was silly. Now we can get some good kills in the new movie.

I don't think that the director and Vin care about breaking box office records. They have already won by getting this movie made after Chronicles flopped. I do think that it will do better than Dredd did because the star will be coming off another blockbuster. Dredd had nothing going for it.

I guess. I just don't see why Vin, the director and the fans really think this character is so great. In Pitch Black, as part of a good ensemble? Sure, he was cool. But as a standalone, central character? Riddick isn't half as interesting as the other sci-fi heroes out there. He's just a grunt who can see in the dark. Big effin' whoop.

If you don't get it you just don't.

It's a passion project for these guys. Riddick's a cool cult character and that's pretty much it.

I think Riddick was misused in th second film but he still has potential. Plus, this universe has a neat and original look, unlike most sci-go films now.

Agreed and the series just should have never gone blockbuster. The character just isn't right for a gaint 100 plus mil space opera.

I liked Chronicles, fun. I think the universe Riddick resides in is very interesting.

I concur with Spidey. To me, Riddick is just a very cool bad ass dude. But I can accept that he doesn't float everyone's boat. To be fair, as much as I liked Chronicles, perhaps they rounded too many of his edges and tacked on an unnecessary Chosen One background as they attempted to take the franchise in another direction. But still, I can't think of another character like him in cinematic space operas right now.

I think that is the reason they are taking the character back to the viscious bastard we knew at the start of PB, getting the character back to his roots and what made people like him in the first place. I think its a clever move.
