Well remember the estimates on Sunday are just estimates before all the final Sunday numbers and ticket sales are in.
I get the sense that Twohy was trying too hard to service the audience and studio executives. And again that's kind of why I felt putting Riddick in such a big movie was a mistake to begin with.
I mean I like the director's cut and how much better it was, but would it have made more money? Well I'm not sure. I think it would've gotten better reviews for sure at least.
But here's one of the many things the director's cut fixes. In the theatrical cut the prison shootout scene is very poorly edited. Watching it in theater I was like, "OK what just happened and what happened to Toombs' crew? What happened to the chick?" In the theatrical version we literally see almost NOTHING. All the deaths are off-screen after we see them start shooting. It's anti-climactic. In the director's cut we actually see what happens. We see what happens to the Asian pilot, to Christina Cox. The sled gets blown up by a rocket launcher The prison guards win and take off.
So I mean that's something that led to my rather sour view of the theatrical cut, but suddenly on the Blu-ray it makes sense and I like it now. So I got to think if it was in the theater it would've played much better.
The first half of this movie was awesome. After The mercs got involved it kind of went down from there, but I was pleased. I would have preffered the movie to just have stayed Riddick vs creatures, and then a bigger badder serpent thing at the end. I give this a 6.5/10 because I was impressed with the creatures for the budget they had, and IKatee Sackhoff. Other than that, it was what I expected it to be. Pitch Black 2 only not as good.
I really hope we get the next two movies they have planned. At the end when Riddick says "Sometimes a man just has to go home" or something like that I had a big smile on my face. I'm a big fan of this character and I want to see him through to the end of his journey. Here's hoping this is a success.
I'm just curious if The Underverse is real or of its something different than what the Necromongers claim.
I hope Furya is next.
Thing is though not sure how much they can do on the smaller budgets though.
I enjoyed Batista in the movie.
Yes Lord Marshal has powers, but did anyone see how he got them? To me, their cult sounded a lot like hocum.
Though the movie is not doing blockbuster money it is doing as it was predicted which is not a bad sign. Over performing would have been better but then how many movies do better than expectation that aren't hyped to the gills?
It's too early to say if a sequel will be green lit or not although I'm hopeful given the returns it has made so far on a smaller budget with smaller marketing. I'd like to see the Underverse and Riddick bringing back Jack/Kyra.
They have to at least settle the score with Vaako somehow.
Damn, really wanted to like this flick more then I did. Love the first two and the character.
The first act of the film with Riddick and his dog were awesome. Loved everything there and was with it 100%. But when the bounty hunters come in and Riddick is barely in it, it dragged big time. Was really disappointed and bored. Only awesome thing during that part of the flick was Sackhoff sideboob.
The flick didn't really grab me back [BLACKOUT]till they killed his dog[/BLACKOUT]. Thought the last act was fair, pretty anti climatic imo. Vin Diesel put out a solid perfromance but when he's not on screen it really suffers from his lack of presence. Really wish the bounty hunter stuff was better cause it killed the flick for me.
Always down for more flicks cause he's a great character, just hope they stick with him through the whole film next time. Or write some more interesting supporting characters.
6/10 for me.
