What was merely implied with Riddick is nowhere near as bad as what James Bond gets away with on film.

Just saw it and loved it. It was back to the Pitch Dark type aura which was awesome. Plus, Nolan Gerard Funk was hot as hell lol (the young dude in it). Also does anyone know if the dog was partly motion capture somehow? It just seemed like the most realistic CGI dog I've ever seen in a movie.

I've not seen the other Riddick movies. Will I be completely lost if I go see Riddick tonight?

No, although having seen the previous films will fill in some gaps you shouldn't be too confused over it. The opening gives a very brief recap of what happened before but it's almost immaterial to the story.

That part in Skyfall where the woman invites Bond onto the boat and he decides to spy on her and sneak into the shower was creepy as ****.

Anyway, Riddick was fun. It does rely a lot on Pitch Black.

And damn..

Why'd they have to kill the dog? :csad:

I generally don't like sequels that retread the original. Which is why Chronicles was refreshing in all it's epic pulpy industrial sci-fi glory. So my least favorite portion of this movie was the Pitch Black retread during the third act. But it was worth my money for the first 2 acts alone (Stranded Riddick, Riddick becoming the Jason Vorhees to the mercs' camp counselors). Especially Riddick Vs. Nature.

It's a shame this movie isn't making enough bank to warrant them getting the budget for that epic underverse movie they wanted to make. Riddick is the only Vin character I ever truly enjoyed and I rather see more movies for this than more F&F movies with Dom. Besides that concept of a mecca for the undead sounds really interesting. But I'll take a smaller scale return to Furya movie too. Better than getting nothing more at all.

That part did suck but it was necessary to propel the story. I just wish they'd have found a different way to do so.

Just came back from this. I enjoyed it, gave it a 7.5 rounded up for the poll. I've not seen the previous movies, but would like to now go back and watch them, and then watch this again. Would definitely like to see more of the Riddickverse.

Saw it the other day, I enjoyed it, but you could tell the budget hampered them a bit. However, it was nice to see Riddick so nasty again and getting back to his PB self, which was missed a bit in COR, I give this movie a 7.5/10, not the best the franchise has to offer but a decent sequel thats gladly sets up more.

If Vin saves his money he could probably use all his bank from Fast sequels and Marvel sequels to finance all the Riddick films he wants :D .

It was enjoyable. Horrific cgi , but still better than the chronicles crappy movie.

Just watched this. I thought it was good. I think Pitch Black is really good and I'm one of the few who likes COR ( I prefer the Directors Cut). The budget does show, but this is a B- movie so it didn't bother me.I liked the first half more when it was just him against the planet. The other half was weaker, but it was serviceable. If they are able to make another I'd see it.

I thought the extended back story with karl urban and new ending were awesome cant wait to see if they make another one!

^Yeah I take it that is part of the DC, will have to pick it up soon, looking forward to how much is added back in.

I also enjoyed the new Riddick film...hopefully they will keep on plugging away on these smaller scale features...just keep it going and build it back up.

I watched this recently again. It's fine.

But god, some of the CG shots are pretty darn average. Like direct to DVD quality.

They should've scaled back on the 'moneyshots'.

Considering their limited budget I think the CG was good for the cost, though not necessarily the quality.

That's why they should've scaled back on some of the shots where they're 'showing off' the CG. Also, the cinematography was awful.

Bought the DC last week but havent had a chance to watch it yet, is there much difference?

They should of just done something more similar to the first movie, gritty and dark. I didn't care much of the CGI; Dingo Dogs, and the creatures(ugh, just not greatly done). Should of spent more time with the mercs and less time on his own.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed this. But why not use more practical effects? They obviously didn't have the budget to show off this amount of cgi. Practical effects are cheaper and in my opinion look a lot better than cgi, even good cgi, a lot of the time.

For example John Carpenter's Thing, aside from a few moments, still holds up really well today in my eyes.

^As far as I remember the budget got cut at a very late stage so most likely sets and other stuff would probably taken too long to build. Hence why there is a lot of cheap CGI in the movie.

Finally watched the DC today, I liked everything that was added back in except for the poor space effects, but I guess they didnt have the money to complete them.

Loved Vaako's extended screen time, and loved the new bit added at the end, I guess Vaako is like the Lord Marshall from COR now, both dead and alive. I said straight after seeing COR that it was all leading to a confrontation between Vaako and Riddick, seems that is the way they are going.
