I think it's probably left vague enough, incase Twohy has more than one idea.

Maybe, I just think its a bit silly to change it now when its been established for a few movies already.

If that is true that his eyes are natural, it might imply Riddick's family is somehow special or unique even among Furyians. Royalty maybe or some kind of family of assassins.

Possibly, but again why would Riddick make up the surgical shine job story at all if he had those eyes for his whole life?

So I caught the Director's cut last night, while I much preferred the DC opening, I can't say I'm a fan of the ending. The film went to lengths to distance itself from the fantasy aspect of CoR and return to the real, hard sci-fi world of Pitch Black only to tease a return to the hocus pocus stuff again? I'm much more interested in him trying to find Furya.

You think Riddick would let the Necro's get away with their betrayal of him though? The original plan was to explore the Necro's and the Underverse before COR flopped.

Except the scarred Necro guy said that Vaako kept his word and intended to send him to Furya, but it was he himself who stranded him on the planet, didn't he?

I don't know why he would lie about it. I don't think he has a reason to, but assuming he did lie and they are natural, that was my thought as to how to reconcile the other Furyians not having shiners like that.

I like the idea that Riddick is a bit of an unreliable source of information, and I also like that we don't know how he truly got his eyes.

The eyes could just be a unique trait for Riddick, a genetic anomaly or mutation to help him survive. It could be unique to his family like a bloodline limit from Naruto.

Yeah he did say that and this is all true, but Riddick still has to find Vaako because he is the only one who knows were Furya is, to do that Riddick will have to go into the Underverse. At least thats how it looked at the end of the DC.

Unless he had a hard time as a kid because of his eyes or something ha ha. I cant think of any good reason to lie about them.

Yeah they could be from his family. With Vaako saying that one Furyan had eyes just like Riddick, maybe they were the Furyan army/defense force and were bred especially to be warriors and killers, hence them needing to see in the dark.

Either way I hope Twohy explains it at some point because its been shown that not all Furyans have Riddicks eyes.

Perhaps where his memory of Furya and his life before is blank, his consciousness created a new memory. Some kind of dissociative disorder maybe.

 I'm so sorry. I can't believe I couldn't put that simple two and two together. I'm such a goofus.

A couple of more things that I want to touch upon, my favourite shot of the film is still Riddick naked, on top of the cliff in front of that blood red moon. That's such a Frank Frazetta shot.

That stuff with Riddick and Dahl? Honestly it feels like a Bond/Moneypenny kind of thing, but since Riddick hasn't the first idea on how talk to a woman, it's more overt.

But according to Pitch Black he only got the eyes later in life, cant see that happening. Plus often Riddick seems like the most switched on guy in the movies.

No problem, it happens.

The whole 1st hour of him on the planet alone fighting against the predators the planet had to offer was the best part of the movie for me, wish it had gone on longer and they would have cut some of the bounty hunter stuff, which for me is the worst part, or least good part anyway.

I understand they couldnt just make the whole movie about Riddick alone on the planet but more of it would have been welcome by me.

I thought it was great, and its the 1st time I have been attracted to Katee Sachoff (sp?) in anything, thought she was really good in the role.

Probably didn't hurt she was nude for a few seconds either. :hehe:

I have to say, one bad point against Riddick 3 is Graeme Revell's score, I think it is his worst Riddick score yet, I hated that for some reason the main Riddick theme was dropped halfway through the movie when it was so prominent in the previous 2 movies.

That is really my only real problem with the movie, that and I wished we got to see more of Riddick vs the planets wildlife.

^I think it most likely will be, along with spirit-like creatures, based on what we have seen of the Necro's.

With the Underverse being so important to them it makes sense that they would base their architecture and decorations on the things inside it.

rewatched. still like it.

thats how you make a low budget scifi B movie. the rating makes BIIIIIIG difference

^Indeed it does, I think this movie stands up very well to repeat viewings, and I love it when that happens, I have watched it 3 times on BD and enjoyed more every time.

I find that has happened with all of the Riddick movies (though only the DC of CoR, not the TC)

Yeah, every Riddick movie improves with repeated viewings for me.

Definitely, Twohy seems to ingrain with subtle layers that make repeat viewings such fun as you keep noticing new things.

I think with the 3rd movie especially the 1st hour of Riddick against the planet is just superb stuff that does keep improving with the more you notice through repeat viewings.

The head in the glass box is awesome.

Best kill of the movie, if not the franchise, it was amazing.

Awesome stuff, love these Riddick movies and the universe they're set in, so the more the better for me.

Will be good to finally see Furia as well.

The last one was eh.

That's what I thought on my first viewing too, but I've actually watched it a few times now and I like it slightly better. Still think the CG is bad tho.

The TV show 'Merc City' actually interests me more than another Riddick movie, to be honest. It sounds like a cool idea.

The DC of the last movie, while not a huge improvement, does add a little to the movie. And I also found that it got better after a few re-watched as well.

So they're brushing over the Underverse to get to Furya?

That TV show though. That sounds like it could a whole lot of fun.
