Ridiculous Things You Believed As A Kid

That true love existed.

For years as a kid, I only got to watch Star Wars on the off chance that it played on TV. I would almost never catch one of the films from the beginning and for a long time, I didn't know that there was more than one movie. I'd be watching Return of the Jedi and be disappointed that I messed the parts set in the snow. Once I was watching the original Star Wars with my parents and asked about the Ewoks. My parents explained that they were in "the other one." The fact that there were multiple Star Wars films was a great revelation.

Similarly my girlfriend tells me that the VHS packaging for her family's copies of the film contained multiple tapes and thought that the Star Wars tape was simply magical and was different every time.

They are apparently, if Lucas has his way (and he does) , and people will continue rebuy them.
Magical!

I thought clouds were dead people.

My grandmother was Native American and told me some of the beliefs she had been taught by her mother. One of them was that when people died, their spirits went into the sky and traveled along with the winds for a time. The day they died their spirits took the form of clouds, so if you looked into the sky you could see clouds that looked like them. When I was little I would spend time looking at clouds and trying to see if they looked like people. :yay:

Lucas doesn't control Star Wars anymore

Fox still holds the home video rights for a few years.

Also, Disney isn't entirely innocent of altering classic movies themselves not to mention they pretty much invented the game of Octuple-dip home video releases.

With all the controversies created by Lucas i doubt Disney will keep changing like him

Speaking of Star Wars, I used to think Darth Vader's name was Dark Vader because he was evil and wore a black suit of armor. I wasn't that far off really if you think about it from a certain point of view.

I didn't know about the originals after watching Episode III, and was waiting patiently how the 4th film would be like, one of my made up stories with friends (we were 8) was Obi-Wan training Luke, and i think the training and relationship between Obi-wan and Anakin's son was similar to Bruce and Ras in Batman Begins (minus the master being a villain).

I also used to be afraid of Darth Maul and think there was a gold version of Darth Vader

C-3PO could be seen as the golden version of Vader... although he's pretty much the exact opposite in every respect.

Hahaha, same here, I always thought it was Dark Vader.

That you cant swim for 30 minutes after you eat because you will cramp up.

I thought the same thing:wow:

Everybody used to believe that one. Actually, we were told that we had to wait one hour after eating before going back into the water, and adults would time us. So would lifeguards. Heck, even Spongebob believes it. :woot:

Wait, after you eat don't you have to wait some 2 and a half hours before going back to the water?

Nope. You can even still be eating when you go for a swim (though it might be tricky to do so). It's an old and untrue myth.

I would say heaven and hell. I don't think it's ridiculous to believe in some sort of higher power - per se.

But the idea that if you're good you'll go to heaven (or conversely be bad, and go to hell), is a pretty silly, wishful, childish notion.

Wait..you mean you don't get eaten by leaches if you go swimming right after eating?

What i heard was that the cold could stop digestion, the same reason why you shouldn't drink cold water after a big meal (a friend of mine had to go to the hospital due to this)

Piranha and pacus maybe, or if you're unfortunate, goonches, but no leaches.

Not sure what happened with your friend but that sounds unlikely too. Cold water can't stop digestion either.

Nah, cramps were supposedly the big danger of swimming immediately after a meal. From the way it was described, swimming on a full stomach inevitably led to massive abdominal cramps that were just as bad as the bends. You'd be so cramped up that you wouldn't be able to swim anymore, so then you'd sink without a trace and drown. Nothing could save you. :csad:

he says it was that because of the cold the stomach needs more blood to heat and takes from the brain, However the brain then needs it too and too much blood goes to your brain.

I allways thought this rumor had to do with digestion, not cramps

That would take a lot more cold than ice water to do. It would require hypothermia which isn't going to happen from a glass of water.

Then why did it happen? As my friend said he did that other times, However since then he has become more careful with drinking cold water. So yeah, so much talk here about how it's fake yet it actually happened here :o
