Ridley Scott is Considering Alien Prequel/Reboot

Which is why I continue to be torn on this. Yay for Ridley being back, but ever fearful of what more we'll learn.

I wonder what this means for The Forever War. I would much rather have Scott direct that, as the book is a great piece of science fiction and he has said that he would be using James Cameron's new technology developed for Avatar. I would much rather have him do do Forever War first, as it's a new sci-fi film for Scott and not another Alien film.

If Fox allow Ridley to do everything he wants to save the Alien legacy then this could work out great, BUT if this becomes RvF then this will be a mess.

My hope is that since they basically pushed to bring him back instead of using the young music video director, suggests Fox are looking for quality rather than someone they can use as a puppet, plus I would hope Ridley would not have signed on without some control clause in his contract.

That is a very good point. Ridley approved of the music video director directing it, and FOX said no to him but went after Scott. That is very encouraging.

As for some of the what will be revealed talk, if Scott is directing this, I imagine he has an idea for it. So, I'm not too worried about what he will reveal in the film. I don't think he will make lame revelations.

Yea Scott has seemed to have an idea for another Alien movie, in some shape or form. He has talked about ideas for years so I'm not worried.

I mean to have the original helmer back on is quite an honor. Consider me stoked. Let's get the Alien Quadrilogy on Blu-Ray too while we are at it.

Agreed. Having the original helmer of the series back after so many years, and the fact FOX pushed to get him back makes me think this won't end up a typical FOX production. I'll still excercise caution to a degree, but I am hyped for this film. I can't wait to see what Scott has in store for us

Yea I feel slight caution as well, just because of Fox//Rothman's track record for the past decade. But with Scott there it does make me feel safe. Hopefully they learned from Kingdom of Heaven or Blade Runner for that matter, the Director's cut is Scott's original and should always be theatrical versions.

Agreed. Scott generally knows what is best when it comes to putting out the proper version of a film, as the past has shown.

I gotta go with CelticPred on this. I love that Scott's back, but I don't want to know more about them.

If they have a different story and a damn good one, count me in.

Let's remember what happened last time a celebrated director returned to craft a prequel for the franchise which made his name decades earlier.

The results weren't quite so wizard...

My memory is a little stale. Which movie was it again?

Ah yes of course. How could I possibly forget that? :o

true...but Lucas went decades without directing anything while his directing skills dwindled. on the other hand, Ridley Scott has kept himself busy and his directing skills have evolved/improved.

Lucas was never a good director, a great writer, but he got lucky with Star Wars. ESB and ROTJ, he was just writing the stories. Other screen writers and directors made his work even better. Not saying anything bad about Lucas but his directing skills have never been that great. Star Wars was great ROTJ was good *he kinda directed most of that movie from what was told*

Scott has still made good movies and keeps up pretty well with his craft. Of course this project could still go wrong, but as of now I'm stoked.

Yeah, I agree. But Scott has also been a tad inconsistent of late. I'm quasi-interesting in the prospect of a new Alien movie, but his involvement doesn't quiet my fears that a 20th Century Fox-produced prequel sounds, on the surface, really lame.

He also got lucky with American Graffiti and THX1138 too, I guess then.

Say no to Rothman Ridley for have a chance to get back on top with Robin Hood and don't need Fox to drag ya down when could have a good movei like that before hand.

Ridley gives me hope. Fox brings me back to Earth.

The only reason there doing this is in case the predator new movie produced by Rodriguzes is actually better then what was done before.

F**K!
I thought Ridley was going to let it go but nope...now they are going to f with stuff before my favorite movie!

I looked at IMDB and i didn't see Rothmans name attached too Predators. But did read what P.W Anderson said at Comic Con. Its no wonder the Preds got hosed in the AVP movie with that moron directing it.

Except that director hadn't directed a film in over 20 years. Ridley Scott has been quite active and has been still turning in some great work (Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, American Gangster)

Never cared for American Graffti so I guess that comes down to personal opinion. I always have loved his writing and ideas, just not sometimes the way he executes them.

Fox is scary but Ridley coming back, you guys all freaking know that no matter what another Alien movie was going to be made, so if we are going to have one how can we complain about the original magic man that brought it to life?

I can understand some may not be thrilled, but hey we got Scott back, 30 years later. And Scott to me has stayed for the most part on top of his game.

If he's not too old or in a mental institution, I hope Giger will be back along with Scott.
