I did a search and didn't see a Rift threat, so if there is one feel free to merge/delete this one.

This game came to me as a pleasant suprise. I played World of Warcraft since launch, but really had no time to put into the game, so I'd play through new content, but never really got into raiding and such. I've tried other MMO's but I feel they lacked the depth and fun that World of Warcraft had. I know WoW was not the first MMO, but for along time I think it's been the best as far as content and active player community.

Fastforward to March 2011. I literally heard nothing about this game until release. I'd tried so many other MMO's and found them to be lacking, you name it Vanguard Saga of Heroes, Warhammer Online, Lord of the Rings Online, Age of Conan etc., etc. I was reluctant to try it.

So I broke down on a friends advice and tried it. Suffice it to say, this is the first alternative to WoW that has content and depth to rival WoW, not to mention breathtaking graphics, an immersive world, and an active player base. But the best thing about it, it's not a time sink. You can literally be in the game and in minutes be actvely participating in PvP, Raids, questing, and best of all Rift participation!

Rifts are somewhat like the public quests were in Warhammer Online (quite frankly the onlything I thought was worthwhile about WAR), except that these events are random, or can be opened on the fly by active players, and the reward system is far greater.

So is this game the elusive "WoW killer" everyone's been talking about for years? No, and don't go looking for that, because WoW will be around for a long, long time. It's too big and it's still a great game, and people have alot of hours invested in it.

However, if you're looking for an alternative to WoW that requires less of a time commitment, and has great rewards wheather you play the game a little or a lot, and has the same depth of content and a polished feel, the Rift just might be your game!

Good review man! I've been getting a tad burned out on WOW recently and thought about picking this up.

The skill system and is cool but I didn't really care for the races. They all pretty much look the same. You have a couple elves, a human, a big human and a dwarf, and from the little bit that I played the animations were pretty stiff. If I'm going to play a game like that for a long time I have to like how my character looks and moves. They were pretty generic from what I saw. And with the exception of the soul trees, it plays almost just like WoW so I decided to just stick with what I know.
