Riots in Missouri - Part 3

I'm saying we're not supposed to live in a society where people commit acts of violence, or steal from each other, yet here we are. We have a system to deal with such problems, but when the police do their job they are almost automatically chastised and accused of being racist murderers regardless of the details and circumstances.

It's because the system we have to address those problems does a very poor job of addressing those problems, and statistics show that said system treats non-whites in an unfair manner.

And it's not like the police don't have most of society and mainstream culture backing them up here.

It's relevant for several reasons, but mostly because you're saying we shouldn't live in a society where a cop shoots a violent criminal for pointing a gun at them.

But that's clearly not what I've been saying, at least not in this case. Read my actual words.

I'm speaking to the larger issue that the cams should be on all the time to minimize police misconduct as much as possible.

I'm all for having body and dash cams on 24/7 too -- it'd function as a two-way policing tool -- but as mrvlknight21 has alluded, the use of body cams is restricted by its effective battery life. As it is, the higher-end models on the market only run up to 12 hours. There's a real logistical challenge in keeping cams charged for continuous usage.

They also didn't call for EMT assistance when they could have. That's still allowing the man to die.

Is this verified? Most of the news outlets I've read didn't say anything about this beyond some as-yet-to-be verified eyewitness claims.

There's a video of them putting a body into the back of a minivan.

I normally tend to stay outta threads like this!( doesnt mean i dont look in though hehe! threads like this are dangerous!) but i hadda say... so Nasa can send a probe to map the terrain of Saturn's moon Phoebe!...but they dont make BATTERIES that can last 12 Hours for a cop's car dash camera on duty!?!

Hoooooooooookayyyyy!:cwink:

Isn't that the coroner's van?

Sure they could make such a battery, and there are probably industrial versions that can last that long. All I'm saying there isn't any that's mass produced. To my knowledge at least.

well i guess thats because there are more important things that matter!... which is why i think people are protesting in the 1st place.

Your world view is horrible. We're not supposed to live in that kind of society.

Well, pulling a gun on a cop is inbred redneck levels of stupid. At that point, you're taking your life into your own hands. Or have some form of suicide ideation. Maybe suicide ideation from an inability to feel as if one has their live in their hands, so to speak.

I agree that it is (as I've stated, I think 24/7 cams would go a long way). I was simply commenting given the logistics involved, the readily available technology, it isn't an overnight implementation.

acutally pacific it wasnt your post that i was addressing with my inital response. i hehe didnt read yours!(sorry.) it was someone else's and thus that we both agree that 24/7 cameras is a viable response to whats been going on possibly.we are in agreement.

I don't see how that matters. Not giving someone medical treatment when they're bleeding out on the ground from a gunshot wound is inexcusable.

Yep. I'm basically under a camera for 8 hours a day 6 days/week. Many working adults are, so its only logical that this is extended to the police force during their patrols/responses as well.

@Question: Absolutely, though there must be more to this situation, because it reads like something out of a really badly written comic book. I was addressing any anger toward the cop shooting the guy.

Actually "thug" sounds like a pretty accurate word to me for someone like Michael Brown who shoves around someone far smaller than himself while robbing him, then gets in an altercation with a police officer.

"Thug" sounds like a pretty accurate word for someone who's been wracking up a rap sheet of armed robbery and assault since he was 17 and pulled a gun on a cop.

And for those trying to say we say "thug" as some code because we "don't have the balls" to say the N word, they're not thugs because they're black, they're thugs because of their behavior and their actions. There are white "thugs" too, in case you didn't know.

We're not supposed to live in a society where the world is just a tiny bit safer with an armed hoodlum off the streets?

I said it and stand by it. Not at all in the Michael Brown situation because I actually agree with you, he was a thug. But you hear more and more people using that word to describe black people, who have no arrest record, so much so that Richard Sherman had to address it a year ago. Is he a thug? A multimillionaire, who has never been arrested and if I'm not mistaken made almost straight in A's in college. But because he was yelling at a reporter who interviewed him at the worst possible time, after he won the Super Bowl, who the freak can remain calm then? And for the record I absolutely hate Richard Sherman but he's right about that. And once he said that, it seems like thug has become the new N word. Again, if a guy does criminal things, then he is a thug. But I've heard comic geeks being called thugs simply because they are black.

I think my issue with the way you all are throwing the word "thug" around is because most of you on here are using it as justification for their deaths. "He was a thug with a rap sheet" and blah blah blah as such. It just really sucks that the last and only video image of Mike Brown that day was the corner store robbery because now he's going to forever be looked at as a thug or criminal despite having no record. The kid has pics of him in graduation gowns and holding children and for all we know he is usually a cool guy but with that one image of him pushing the store owner aside he'll forever be labeled that. That's my issue with the way everyone is using the word.

EDIT: And basically what Docker had to say

I don't think a nice guy would be shoving around a store owner and robbing him in the first place. Sorry.

And what does wearing a graduation gown have to do with what kind of person you are?

Well, it would have been easy enough for Mike to not rob the corner store...since the word's being applied in reference to a criminal act, I don't see the problem here. In the case of that ball player, Sherman? Thug isn't really appropriate...Like Sherman, I maintained straight A's in undergrad and tended to be pretty excitable, so I can see why he was so excited during that interview.

That bragging was sooooooooooooooo unnecessary. :whatever:

I joke, I joke, I kid, I kid!! :word: But yeah, those are the new "thugs" now.

I haven't really heard or seen any non-black guys who've committed crimes labelled as thugs, like I've seen happen with black guys. It's kind of like how the media is very quick to label any Middle Eastern/African (would-be) mass murderer a terrorist, while being very hesitant to apply that same label to...say an Aryan nation Helter Skelter militia type. There are clearly biases at play, whether subconscious or not. There's no two ways about it.

Exactly! That's my problem with it. I can't at this moment recall anyone but blacks being referred to as thugs. I've heard the same rhetoric that "thugs come in all colors" or "there are white, yellow, black, or purple thugs" but I'm sorry, I never hear them called that. Heck, the NHL fights waaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy more than the NBA but you never hear them called thugs. You had a guy darn near kill a guy with his stick and that isn't a thug?!

You know who else was a jerk with a rap sheet sat 17? This dude,

But of course, he can walk away to become a model and actor cause he isn't defined as a "thug" for being a stupid idiot from a bad neighborhood. He gets to use is "white bad boy" image as a safe way to be a fashion model where Michael Brown got was he deserved by lying in the street for two hours I guess.

And Wahlberg lives another twenty years and gets to ask for his crime to be erased from his record.

Hell, maybe the Happening would never have been made if someone had shot him!!!!! lol

Body cameras, not dash cameras. Dash cameras are powered by the car battery, the body camera is a small camera attached to the officers uniform or equipment. The only one I have seen in person was about the size of a large thumb drive and was attached to the uniforms shoulder area.

Sad thing is, I heard Houston shooting as I was running out the door and googled thinking it was Texas and got this instead..

HOUSTON (AP) - A Harris County grand jury has declined to indict a Houston police officer in the January fatal shooting of an unarmed man.

The panel returned its decision Tuesday in the case of Juventino Castro. The 10-year police veteran shot and killed 26-year-old Jordan Baker while working an extra security job Jan. 16 at a strip mall.

The decision in Houston comes amid unrest following similar grand jury outcomes in recent officer-involved deaths of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, and Eric Garner in New York City.

Police say Castro told investigators Baker briefly struggled with him and ran, then charged back at the officer.

Baker's mother Janet contended Castro wrongly profiled her son as a criminal wearing a black hoodie. She's been backed by activists staging rallies about the case.

I was confused when everyone was talking about a gun being involved.

He also maimed a man for life by stabbing him in the eye. Years later, a black man gets choked to death by a cop, because apparently selling cigarettes on the street is a capital offense, no trial necessary. :o

No racism involved though! Racism died with slavery. Rodney King deserved that ass whooping he got for resisting arrest. :o
