The Rise of Skywalker Rise of Skywalker Leaks and Spoilers thread

I thought the kiss was really sweet lol. Definitely not the "Ben kisses her awake without her consent" thing that was briefly pushed.

I actually really liked that kiss. the acting, music, and everything really works from what i've seen. very emotional lol

Same. I myself am enjoying the leaked footage and images being shown. I know it’s not gonna be for everyone which is fine, we know that already and can see people are divided. I just wanna personally enjoy it that’s what matters to me. And I am enjoying the things I am seeing so far. It’s working/clicking for me.

i havent seen that scene, just the ones with jedi voices, and a poor quality version of rey vs palps and the kiss. I would think he would have been a force ghost after passing on, but don't force ghosts have to learn how to do that?

That scene also looks good

The music is so misleading though because it sounds like everything is going to be okay when it isn't. Loved seeing Driver's big smile though.

I watched Rey's death and Ben resurrecting her. JJ should have left her dead. She dies defeating Sidious and Ben Solo spends the rest of his life living by her example and atoning for his crimes and sins by protecting people and rebuilding the Jedi Order.

Then truly it would be Rise of the Skywalker.

I don't think I'd like the idea of Rey dying either, the ideal thing would've been for both of them to live on and serve the Force, but I digress.

So... Rey has to be the dullest, most Mary Sue, transparently agenda/merchandise driven character in any medium in the history of forever.

Her killing Palpatine, (who cant turn off his lightning?), is one of the cringiest things I've ever seen.

I really dislike Johnson's TLJ. But Abrams' movies are just so ****ing insidious (har har) in how they simply try to manipulate peoples emotions and nostalgia for monetary gain. I mean yea these blockbusters are made to make money. Of course. But it's just so blatant eith these films. Regardless of what the film is trying to present, there is just this horrible cynical money grabbing undercurrent. There is no magic. There is no passion to tell a great story. It's like it was made with a check list of Star Wars-y things.

It is the encapsulation of all the terrible things about Disney.

Someone who has seen this, tell me.....

I read one review that said the movie doesn't even bother to make Palpatine a surprise reveal and just casually says in the opening text crawl that Palpatine has been sending messages across the galaxy and people are trying to find him.

If true, I think that's one of the stupidest and laziest things I've ever heard. And yes, I know, the trailers spoiled he's in it, but that doesn't excuse the filmmakers.

She's not any more Mary Sue than Luke is a Gary Stu, and she was easily surpassed as agenda-driven by Rose in the same movie, or by the "droid rights activist" in Solo, or the animal rights/military industrial complex/Occupy Wall Street pointless subplot in The Last Jedi.

Just saw the whole opening from the crawl to Kylo meeting and speaking with Palpatine, so awesome :mrk:

I found the opening crawl. Them just casually giving away that Palpatine is back in the opening crawl with no buildup or anything is so stupid and lazy.

It sounds like Abrams did choose to continue at least one of Johnson's threads. Unfortunately, it's the one I found utterly poisonous to the characters and my interest in them in Last Jedi. I had optimism that he would be smart enough to cast that part aside and take what worked, but I guess not.

Reylo, I presume?

I assume there's some tie-in book or comic about it, or at least there will be.

Yep. It's not so much about what it does to this movie, though that sounds pretty bad too, but retroactively making her entire conflict with the antagonist during this trilogy that she wants to get with a Nazi but wants him to just stop doing the genocides first is... really boring and rather gross. Also, in this case, TFA is a horrible film for this trilogy. I think I still like it a lot, but at this point that's mainly because the trilogy and arcs that follow really do not sound consistent to me.

I think Luke and Rey are completely different.

Luke spent the first 2 movies getting his ass kicked and mainly being lucky. Yea he was a good pilot, but that was explained by him actually having Academy training before we ever see him. We see him struggle to comprehend the nature of the force. We see him mess up in training. We see him dance with the Dark Side. It isnt until Return of the Jedi that we see him as an actual competent Jedi.

Rey? Well **** me, she can do everything! Straight away! With no struggles or **** ups or anything. Her first ever lightsabre fight, she defeats a guy who can hold laser bolts with his mind. She seems to be proficient in Force tricks with literally zero training or even knowledge they exist. Shes spent her life dossing about on a desert planet... yet can somehow swim with no issue? And jumps in the Falcon and flies it better than Han?

The difference between Rey and Luke is that we see Luke grow as a hero naturally (well as naturally as you can in a blockbuster action series). Rey? Theres no real growth, because shes the complete package straight off the bat. Which makes her incredibly dull as a character.

Yup Palppy is hinted on the opening crawl. And we see him within 6 mins (of the start of the movie).

Not much of a reveal.

The Palpatine reveal sounds incredibly disappointing. That should really have been a big reveal about at like the end of the first act.
