Robin Hood

A revised myth they say...:woot:

Yep that looks like tension on set alright! :whatever:

LOL, doesn't that guy sitting next to Crowe play for the Detroit Red Wings?

Whats Crowe complaining about now, that he looks too fat?

And like others have said, whats with the buzz cut's? They have electric clippers back then? Not very true to the time & place to me.

I like the pics. The heraldry on Robin's surcoat is interesting. Is it meant to be his own? If so, it rather indicates that he is of knightly rank, which seems to contradict what has been said about this Robin representing the origins of the character as a yeoman.

Well they probably are going the way of 'Prince of Thieves' how he was away during the Crusades.

Hmmm... you know, I can't help but feel that people are just going to be calling this "Gladiator with bows and arrows" the same way that people called The Patriot "Braveheart with guns."

I mean, in those shots, Crowe's look is EXACTLY the same as it was in Gladiator (same haircut, beard, build is similar). Add that to the fact that they're going with Robin being a soldier who comes back home to find an usurper to the throne has turned him into an outlaw, and well...

i agree that hes face looks exactly like in gladiator.

Not like that's new though. That also happened in 'Prince of Thieves' way before it was done in Gladiator. I mention it again because I find it strange that at this point it seems that Scott didn't try to change it up since the last American made Robin Hood film.

Yeah, you're right about that... so it almost has me wondering which film it will be considered "a boring rehash" of... Prince of Thieves or Gladiator.

I still hope it's good, but like you said, it doesn't seem to be anything new or exciting.

You know what, if it doesn't suck I'd be more then happy if it is trying to be a new Gladiator

Although I'm a fan of Ridley Scott and to a pretty good extent Russell Crowe, I'll wait for a trailer before I get excited for this.

i think the scope will be huge. good shots plus good action.

Can anyone explain what the hell happened to this movie?

OK I love the character of Robin Hood, and I have enjoyed just about anything with Russell Crowe in it, so I am anticipating this film......but a complaint.......I have seen several set photos, and have yet to see one long bow!!!!??? Whats up with that!!!!!???

We do know that he has a Bow even if the set pictures do not show this:

I do feel the hair is too short but i do like the look of Crowe as Robin Hood at the Moment.

They've gone through multiple story ideas, the cast is probably too old for their roles (I think so anyway), there's supposedly tensions on the set that's bumping up the movie's budget, and the script is being rewritten even as the movie's filming.

I hope this all turns out okay because I love historical movies and the Middle Ages were incredibly cool.

Just a point of order here: short haircuts are anachronistic only in that they were unfashionable in 12th century England, not because they were impossible to achieve.

Men trimmed their beards short, while others shaved their faces. Monks kept their hair short, and shaved their heads into tonsures. The Norman invaders of 1066 commonly shaved the back of their heads. If Robin Hood wanted to have his hair cut short, then he would have easily been able to find a woman to do it for him. If we accept that he had been at war in the Near East, then we can speculate that he adopted the fashion in Byzantium, where it was in vogue.

Also, the fact that Robin had been on crusade does not automatically indicate that he was a knight or a minor aristocrat. All ranks of Christian society were involved in the first crusade. Robin might have involved himself either because he was a particularly devout Christian, or because he was a professional archer/mercenary and that was his trade, or because he was trying to escape debts and the law. In any case, the central problem with the concept of an aristocratic Robin Hood is that he is incredibly proficient with the bow, and the bow was never an aristocratic weapon in medieval Europe. Before the Norman conquest of England, the noble weapons were the spear, the sword and the axe; afterwards, they were the lance and sword. Aristocratic rebels and guerilla warriors from England's history- such as Hereward the Wake and Eadric the Wild- have never been associated with archery. That remains the preserve of Welsh and English yeomen.

"The better the villain, the better the film." Alfred Hitchcock.

I hope this movie has a good villain.

Nice post.

Although a lot of people hate "Prince of Thieves" you can't deny Alan Rickman owned that film!

Whoever plays the Sheriff in this hopefully is written well and puts out a really good performance.

Regwec, thanks for the information. Always nice to have a bit of background knowledge.
