Robin Hood

I prefer the Nottingham title too, it stands out more.

I do too, but the GA probably won't get it. I would like to read the original script.
Btw, do you think a medieval action is interesting for the GA?

I wouldn't be so sure of that. The Sheriff of Nottingham is just as much of a known name as Robin Hood is to most people. I think the GA would get the connection or at least guess pretty well.

I don't know. How many teens are familiar with the characters? Only those who watch the TV series probably.

When people think Robin Hood, they think swashbuckling adventure fun. This from the first trailer looks to be like a grim and gritty version of the tale, sans fun. Robin Hood had inklings of fun to go along with his badassery.

I'm at work and can't watch the trailer. I just want to know one thing. Does Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves appear better than this new one? Although Costner sucked it up for the most part, you can't deny that Rickman owned that movie.

As far as capturing some of that Errol Flynn era stuff, the Costner one does somewhat capture it. This one you don't know it's Robin Hood till the title actually says Robin Hood.

Hmmm. Well, I'm just going to have to check out the trailer when I get home to see how I feel about it...that and the IM2 footage they just released. :awesome:

Rickman was the main redeeming factor in that whole movie, he is the whole reason for replay value.

The disney classic is still owned by most parents today, so most kids still know who Robin Hood, the Sheriff of Nottingham, and Maid Marian are, simply because they grew up watching the cartoon.

I honestly don't know that much about Robin Hood. I doubt people my age do as well.

The costner movie had an amazing score with other than Costner himself, a great cast. Rickman, Morgan Freeman, the guy who played Little John was great, the woman (her name escapes me) who played Marian, Tuck and Brian Blessed as his father...it just had a sense of fun and grittiness to it.

This new one looks like a lot of gritiness. It may turn some off, but people love the new gritty Bond and the new gritty Batman, so it makes sense. But as it is Scott and Crowe I would love to see it. However, they turned it into a traditional Robin Hood story, so changing the name to makes sense. The only way for Nottingham to have worked is if it had a guy like Nottingham as the main character as seen in the original script and sold it from that angle. That would be worth a read, really.

Well, I'm only 20, so I don't think I'm necessarily an old fart myself.

Now, I'm not saying people will know a ton about the myth of Robin Hood, but the popularity of the Disney movie pretty much cements the basics in pop culture. People will know Robin as the guy who steals from the rich and gives to the poor, and that the Sheriff is the bad guy and Marian is the love interest.

Not to mention that people of my generation still remember growing up with the Costner movie.

So the basics of the myth are definitely ingrained in the culture. People know the name Robin Hood, and they know the name Nottingham.

Or those who grew up watching either the Flynn movie and/or the satire Robin Hood: Men In Tights. I still don't see why serious Mel Brooks fans keep trashing the latter, it's still pretty funny.

IMO, it's an awful trailer and will help kill any chance of this flick being a success. It just looks like another incredibly underwhelming period piece.

i didnt even realize that the movie is R :lmao:

i said i will whait with the gladiator jokes until i show this to my friends.if one says that it looks similar then i will go into full joke mode :awesome:

The trailer was okay, IMO, except for the fact that I'm getting a little tired of trailers that just show action sequences and very little dialogue. Granted, we all know the (general) story of Robin Hood but really, this looked like nothing more than a movie about swordfighting.

Still, I guess it's only a teaser (a long teaser, however), so maybe once we get the full trailer treatment it will help decide whether or not this film will be truly worth seeing on the big screen.

Also, I agree that Nottingham would have been a better title... even if people didn't know what it was about just from hearing the name, all they'd have to do is have Crowe say "I am Robin Hood" somewhere in the trailer and people would understand.

Or maybe, "My name is Robinus Decimus Hoodius. Commander of the Armies of Sherwood, General of the Merry Men, loyal servant to the true king, Richard. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next."

LOL, if they rate this an R they done already ****ed up. Robin Hood has been viewed as an all ages thing for decades.

Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, who was also in James Cameron's The Abyss.

Yeah, she was in The Abyss (and had a topless scene to boot). I wonder if she has retired.

According to IMDB her last movie, The Russell Girl was out in 2008.
