This project is an amazing example of how a movie can take a nose dive.

Originally, this seemed like it was going to be a movie where Robin Hood was a background character and Crowe played a Javert-esque Sheriff, who while an antagonist, is not evil, but simply sees the world in black and white and himself as a servant of justice and order where as Robin Hood is a lowly thief.

Then it seems Crowe is playing a duel role where the Sheriff is Robin Hood's day job and cover.

And now it seems like Crowe is not even playing the Sheriff and this is simply another Robin Hood movie.

The original premise was so good. This is disappointing. :

It reminds me of what studios can do to the film. I don't know of the circumstances of it though, but when I saw Watchmen, they showed this shutting off electronic devices commercial where this studio bought the dude's script, and as he was getting more money, the studio demanded more changes.

Well, I didn't say I wanted it to be exactly like TDK, for example, some Englishmen should be rooting for RH. I would just like it if Nottingham focused on Nottingham the way TDK focused on Gotham.

This is really extreme though. Nottingham has changed so much it's practically seemed like three different movies. Is that normal during a film's development process?

spot on!

the only thing that this has going for it (for me at least) is ridley scott...i'm a huge fan of his movies and maybe its less the studios iinvolvement than his own ideas of what he can do to make this a great movie...also, russell crowe is a great actor who seems to make great, interesting choices...

that being said, i was really looking forward to the original version...and i hope someone comes back to have a crack at that take on the story

Ridley Scott Has Found His Merry Men

Scott Grimes, Kevin Durand and Alan Doyle have been cast as the Merry Men in Universal and Imagine's Robin Hood, to be directed by Ridley Scott.

Russell Crowe toplines the movie, which is being billed as a retelling of the origins of the key characters of the Robin Hood legend. Cate Blanchett is on board as Maid Marian in the project written by Brian Helgeland.

Scott is producing with Imagine's Brian Grazer.

Grimes ("ER," "American Dad") has been cast in the role of Will Scarlet, a skilled swordsman and Hood's nephew. Durand (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, "Lost") is playing Little John, Hood's right-hand man. Doyle is playing Alan a Dayle,CQ who in lore was a roving minstrel and needed help when his love was being forced to marry another man.

Thrilling.

as much as i like Crowe, I still can't see him Robin Hood. I just think he has aged badly in the past couple of years, regardless if it's for a role or not. He doesn't have the youth serum that Robert Downey Jr, Brad Pitt, and Johnny Depp have, and I think all 3 are older than Crowe!

LOL... I think a title ceremony is in order. Calling it "Robin Hood" is too easy. They could go with:

Robin Begins

Merry Men Origins: Robin Hood

Saxon Wars Episode I: The French Menace

Robin 'N the Hood


I still think it sucks that this movie isn't being called Nottingham. That title was perfect, even if the premise has changed.

That's my complaint besides the change of story.

Something about Russel Crowe as Robin Hood doesn't sit right with me. I always imagined Robin as a wirey, sneaky looking type. He may have been a hero but he was still a thief

Now that I think about it, if Matthew Goode were a tad older he wouldn't be a half bad choice for Robin.

I agree. I think before all's said and done Crowe will be the Sheriff, not Robin. Given how everything about the movie keeps changing it's a possibility.

Universal Pictures has scheduled a May 14, 2010 release for director Ridley Scott's Robin Hood, starring Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett.

The other releases scheduled for May of 2010 so far are Iron Man 2 (May 7), Shrek Goes Fourth (May 21) and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (May 28) - so there's no direct competition for these four films yet.

Crowe plays Robin of Loxley in an origin story of Robin Hood that hews close to historical facts of the period. Abandoned as a child, he finds community with the common people of Nottingham. Robin's abandonment and trust issues hamper his ability to fall in love. He meets his match in Marian (Blanchett), a strong, independent woman.

just because Scott is used to have Crow in hes movies that doesnt mean that he is the right actor for every movie.

i just can not see how he would work as robin hood. this is not like the joker in TDK. i dont care how he acts. he just can not look right the way he looks.
