RoboCop Returns?

I used this name on every message board I went to starting in 2003. I never saw any other Deaths Head 2s until I went to this board. I was very sad. :csad:

Only image of Robocop was the one from the trade show. Right now Robocop is in limbo like alot of other MGM stuff.

Man I hope with all the MGM selling that someone buys the name for Orion and starts the company up again.

^^ THanks deathhead 2, hopefully it stays in limbo until a quality director gets behind it or they just leave my franchise alone.

Robocop I and II are some very good Sci-fi classics. More so Robocop.

A Darren Aronofsky Robocop would probably be better than the original.

Before Christmas, we started to hear rumblings that Darren Aronofsky was losing interest his ROBOCOP remake, and now there seems to be a more official explanation as to why that is exactly. Moviehole reports that the project is stalled because of creative differences between Aronofsky and MGM.

'Nash' from the OCP-lovin' RoboCop Archive dropped me a line earlier today, stating that “ I've spoken with Phoenix Pictures [and] asked them about the status of ROBOCOP... they told me that the project is on hold. The problem is that Mary Parent, Chairperson of MGM, wants a 3D movie for the new ROBOCOP. But, as you know, Darren Aronofsky is a real artist and he's not interested in gimmicks like 3D, CGI, filming digital, he wants to do everything as real (organic) as possible just like The Fountain.”

Wow, the studio wants ROBOCOP to be a big 3D blockbuster, and Aronofsky wants it to be real and artsy? Who could have possibly seen this conflict coming? I never understood why Aronofsky was attached to this project in the first place, as it seemed about as logical as Michael Bay directing SENSE AND SENSIBILITY, but I was curious to see what his artistic direction would be for the film.

Who knows if this will ever actually work out, but I just can’t see “3D blockbuster” and “Aronofsky” in the same sentence, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he walks and the studio looks elsewhere for a more explosion-prone director.

IF the studio decides to go forward , i'm guessing that the movie is going to be PG-13 because of the cost.

****

Without Aronofsky this is going to turn into the run of the mill idiotic summer movie. I was really excited for this too. Although, I would have been lying to myself if I didn't know that the studio was going to **** on Aronofsky's take.

Whoh whoah.
Let's not jump to conclusions here. Remember that Arronofsky is als the same guy who could've screwed up Batman. Not saying that he's bad for robocop but we also don't know what kind of script he's wants.

There could also be a director out there who can combine both the artistic and commercial aspects of robocop , very much like how nolan succeeded with bats.

However there are a couple of things that could mess this movie up.
1 The 3d . That stuff is expensive to do ( filming with either stereoscopic camera or conversions) and it would suggest that the studio is going for a PG-13 rating

2 If the studio is going for a R rating , that means that they wouldn't want to spend alot on the movie . That also poses problems for how much they want with Robocop as well. Because if you're going to go all out , you're going to have spend alot of more money on VFX. I honestly have hard time believing that they're going to film the movie like the first one with a guy in a suit for the entire movie. I seriously doubt that a suit can be made flexibile enough to do the stunts you see in action flicks these days.
Otherwise the movie is going to be very much like the first RObocop moviewhich is Robocop just turning his body and blowing people up. What's the point of remaking the movie then.

Edit :
I should've read the entire article of JOBLO and not just focuse on the 3d :
Darren Aronofsky is a real artist and he's not interested in gimmicks like 3D, CGI, filming digital, he wants to do everything as real (organic) as possible just like The Fountain.”

Well good luck with that.

Robocop Reboot Canned
MGM's financial woes claim another victim
UK, July 27, 2010
by Tom Butler
IGN UK Robocop, the forthcoming Darren Aronofsky-helmed reboot, has apparently been taken offline permanently having been crippled by MGM's fiscal fiasco.

According a report by The Financial Times, The Wrestler director has walked away from the Robocop reboot due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the future of MGM, which is reportedly on the brink of bankruptcy.

Crippled with $3.7bn of debt and struggling to make interest repayments, MGM has recently had to shelve the development of Bond 23 and the two-part Lord of the Rings prequel The Hobbit, with Robocop the latest victim of the ongoing financial saga.

As MGM lack the money to produce films and are too heavily loaded with debt to tempt potential investors, this is unlikely to be the last high-profile project to get the chop.

Yay.

This movie doesn't need a remake anyway.

And when it does get remade (it'll eventually happen if I like it or not) I hope it gets a director of Aronofsky caliber.

saw the news the other day, sucks it looks for now the time being its canned due to all the mgm stuff. Maybe some day down the road if once mgm starts to sell off properties someone will get it moving again.

Can we at least the the concept art now? I would love to see what he would have looked like.

Thank the lord that it's dead...for now atleast. Nobody will every top the original anyway. It was an incredibly smart and witty classic.

Sorta glad about this, even with the director they had, no guarantee it would have been any good.

it's for the best, robocop is nigh on perfect, a remark would only **** it up

The remake wouldn't have had the theme anyways.

This.

I don't see the mentality of "remake" ruins the original. Maybe sequels could do that (even though none have for me), but a remake/reboot is in a different continuity that barely relates to the original movie.

I agree with Aranofsky about 3D. It can be interesting when done well as Avatar does, and hopefully Tron will. It depends how it's done. It can be very interesting. Not every film needs to be 3D, but I don't rule it out.
