RoboCop Returns?

I'm all for a sequel, ROBOCOP RETURNS or something like that, but a remake? We'll see.
Even thought that sounds cheesier than a French Cheese Expo, I kind of like it. I could just imagaine the trialer voiceover guy saying in an epic voice "In 2010, RoboCop Returns!"

This would be hilarious if the whole movie was about the problems he was having. If for the whole movie, here was this new, expensive Robocop and he just won't work, and every other cop on the force is trying to get him to work, arguing with each other, and pretty much going ape ****. Meanwhile the crime just continues to escalate.

I dont think that the WHOLE movie should be that, but he should have little glitches through the entire thing. It would be hillarious to see him in a high speed car chase, from his POV, and all of a sudden "ROAMING: Please return to service area!" flashes across his visor as he leaves the city limits. Or maybe halfway through they find out the battery that's powering him (via the "baby food") is no longer holding a charge and needs to be replaced. But he should still be able to get the job done, much like Murphy was, despite his enormous flaws.

It'll probably be some watered down remake aimed at the same market as Transformers.

Yea hopefully it doesnt get watered down, but since that report the other day saying the studio plans to keep Robocop a Hard "R" hopefully that wont happen.

Then the theme plays. That'd be awesome, even if the movie sucks.

I'm inclined to fear a reboot like the plague, but... Casino Royale kicked ass, so who knows?

Chiefs new editor- Business, how is this gonna effect the stock market? Long-term? Short-term? Politics, does he still stand for truth, justice, all that stuff? Lifestyle, (pauses) RoboCop returns.

We will just have to wait and see who the studio is going to decide on.

Ive stayed pretty quiet on this b/c truth be told Ive never seen any of the Robocop movies right through, Ive just seen bits of the here and there.

Well last night i watched the directors cut of Robocop, definitely a movie that lives up to it's hype and not one that should be remade. The thing with it is that while you can make ED-209 look great the rest of the visuals still hold up and the suit and make up effects are still excellent, plus Verhoeven already shot great action sequences so there really is no room for improvement. It also has heart and satire, the latter of which wouldn't work today as it is very much satire of it's environment.

I could see a new Robocop movie working if it were an all new film but as a remake it's a bad idea IMO.

Word.

-I think ED209 looks great as he is.

Christ... This thread shows how fans really know absolutely nothing about film-making at all. Frank Millar? Are you ****ting me? Did you not see Robocop 2 and 3? You can cite studio interference yada yada but in the end Robo 2 was a pale rip-off of Robo 1 with an over-the-top plot, etc. A new cast playing the same characters? Your joking, it'll be so hammy that'll no one will buy it. Christ, Robocop is not a drama or a musical, its an action movie, its a pulp character, and pulp characters can have as many incarnations as possible because they live and thrive on different interpretations just like Batman, James Bond, etc.

Also just because its a remake doesn't mean they'll use the same exact story, god I hope they come up with something new just using the basic premise.

Actually you sound like you know nothing about FM's Robocop.

Go read this book then come back to the thread.-

FM basically wrote the greatest ever Robocop film, and they did not let him make it.

 Cant believe you have only just seen it HR, its a movie that seems right up your alley as well, but yes, it is an amazing movie, and one that would only be ruined by a remake. I would much prefer to see Verhoeven's idea for a 4th movie about Robocop being re-activated in a far distant future after being de-activated for years come to fruition.

Shame on you!!:wow: Seriously color me shocked. I thought that every geek had watched RoboCop by now.

Glad to here you loved it.

The original Robocop was perfect the way it was! Damn Hollywood and their remakes!:cmad:

No. The screenplay SUCKED and wouldn't have worked on screen. Frank Miller is an average comic writer, not a good movie writer. It's not the evil studio. The "evil studio" SAVED Robocop 2 in some ways.

^I have no respect for Frank Miller as a storyteller from what I've seen but I wouldn't say anything saved RC2. I mean it wasn't terrible but it didn't come close to being good. Being as good as the first one was never an option so I'm not holding it up to those standards.

I like Robocop 2. Nice action, cool stop motion, some parts are stupid, but not as much as in Miller's version. Robocop 3 is b eyond redemption.

The problem with the Robocop character: Once he has regained his "humanity" at the end of the first movie, well, his story is over. It doesn't make sense if he would loose his humanity again.

Well hopefully the new film can learn from the mistakes of robocop 2, 3, and the prime directives miniseries.
