RoboCop Returns?

Yea remakes are getting very pointless nowadays. But i am willing to give this remake a chance, we know very little on what they are doing so we cant go to crazy about it just yet.

sorry, no can do. i loved that film (there was a period of time in my life when i watched it every single day after i came home from school--it was a tv-edited version).

if they changed something, i would be like what the hell, and the original was better. if they keep it exactly the same, i'll be like, why bother making a new film if you're gonna keep it the same.

some things just shoudln't be remade. like chocolate factory.

It should just be a sequel that uses a different character as the robocop

They should relaunch the old movie as Robocop Special Edition, a la Star Wars, but actually keeping unaltered, telling people that has remastered fx, and stuff like that... People that haven't watch the original wouldn't know, and old fans would be happy to see it again in theathers :)

yeah i'm sure no one will figure it out...:funny:

I'm sick of your whinings:

"Noooo... Robocop must not be remade!"
"Boooo, remakes, boooooo..."
"There is only one Robocop, the Paul Verhoeven one"

Piss off!
Without remakes we wouldn't have so many movies...
BTW, Robocop can be remade because the first one is full of pessimistic 80s stuff, like Reagan's star wars, nuclear war danger, silly TV spots, unstoppable rise of crime. But more important are the SFX, so lame!
ED-209 is beautiful only when is still and Robocop looks like a man in a suit, instead of a cyborg (the only good looking part is his head without the helmet). And for last, the picture: I would like to see a Robocop movie shot in anamorphic.
So, I'm totally for remakes, even more than one.
I'm already awaiting a Transformers remake, a Superman one, Terminator and Aliens vs Predator (with Colonial Marines).

Jesus F. Christ... You seem like person who loves CGI. Go play in traffic!

I'm just kidding. But, in my opinion: The "80's stuff" is great... I don't think it's aged that much. Yea, it's got an 80's mindset... but it's still relevant. and the "silly TV spots"... ****. The GTA series are using the same stuff in their games! Only on the radio- And the effects... it's stop motion- and it was all they could afford. Tippet could have done it better if he had more time and money. I still think that the stop motion in this is better than in some of the CGI in movies we see today. And Robcop looks like a man in a suit...? Well he is :p I know what you mean. I think it looks great. It's got weight to it.- The movements that Weller does is awesome.
So I'm not a fan of remaking it... A sequel on the other hand. I'm all for it. Hell, I liked RoboCop 2- thought it was a lot of fun. Number three did't get made... You hear me! IT WASEN'T MADE!! :cmad:

What he said

Why not just make another Robocop. Honestly I don't mind if it's some kind of loose-sequel-but-not-really type of deal. I'd love to see more of Robocop.

I agree. It doesn't have to be the same character, just the same "universe", and try to stick to the spirit of the original... It would be cool to have a new Robocop in (maybe) Delta City...

Agreed 100%

Robocop 4 can't be made because Robocop 1 and 2 were not Terminator level blockbusters, they generated alot of buzz but faded into "cult classics" and then released that horrid Robocop 3 (PG13???) which took Robocop so far away from it's original audience that the only option at this point is a remake.

Shame on you!!:wow: Seriously color me shocked. I thought that every geek had watched RoboCop by now.

Glad to here you loved it.

 Cant believe you have only just seen it HR, its a movie that seems right up your alley as well, but yes, it is an amazing movie, and one that would only be ruined by a remake. I would much prefer to see Verhoeven's idea for a 4th movie about Robocop being re-activated in a far distant future after being de-activated for years come to fruition.

Heh. :D yeah somehow it was the only big action/sci fi movie of the 80's i never saw. :O
That sounds like a great idea, kinda like unfreezing Captain America years after he was the peak of superpowered soldiers.

Yea i hope this remake does well and can keep the feel/look of the original. I do say for the suit maybe would be cool to got a more sleaker look instead of the huge bulkyness original was. But retain the classic look. Also side question why was robocop thread moved to current movie page when it was in future movie page? This isnt due to be coming out ot 2010?

Now this is interesting...

REQUIEM FOR A ROBOCOP

Is Aronofsky down with OCP?

Yeah, you know he.

Buried in a Hollywood Reporter article about Mary Parent is a stunner of a revelation: among the people who have been in to have meetings about the remake of Robocop is Darren Aronofsky (Russ briefly covered this here). I don't think this is just a throwaway name, either. I think Aronofsky is serious about this.

Which is amazing. It redefines the entire idea of a Robocop remake; all of a sudden this isn't just a cheap cash-in on a property that has nostalgia value but possibly an actual movie. This could be the next The Thing or The Fly with a real director on board, and Aronofsky is, 100%, a real director.

For him this would be a killer choice. I've read the script for The Wrestler, and it's good but very little. It's a movie that will get good notices but will probably not make a big impact (although it would be nice if I was wrong). He has The Fighter also lined up (could this be a trilogy? When will we see The Slapper?), but that may or may not happen, and it's a prestige picture. Aronofsky's always been ready to do a mainstream movie - his take on Batman would have been ****ing killer and made Nolan's look like Adam West on ecstasy - and the next year could be the right moment.

Just thinking about Aronofsky set free in a dystopian near future, with Robocop as his protagonist... I'm salivating. Let's keep our fingers crossed that all of a sudden the Robocop remake goes from a groaner to a potential classic.

This film becomes a lot more interesting to me with the chance of Aronofsky's involvement. I think he's extremely talented, and I truly hope he considers the film.

As long as it's R rated and not a cheap remake , i'll be supporting this baby :woot:.

And if it can be done , get Frank Miller on board. I've never read his version of robocop but i heard it's great.

Aronofsky possibly helming Robocop, very intriguing.

Though I disagree with Devin's opinion that his Batman movie would have been better than Nolan's. Though it was a very good script and concept, it just wouldn't have worked as a Batman film. Though if it were a separte individual Vigilante type film, then I think it would have worked extremely well.

Still good news about Aronofsky, lets see if this pans out.

Buuuuuut..............

Will Aranosky want to make another commercial movie , after all the problems he encountered with The Fountain.
He works best as a indie director but once you go commercial , he has to deal with studio politics. And that's what he's encounted when he made The Fountain.
