RoboCop Returns?

Why, dude? The original is a masterpiece. You actually expect them to surpass it with a remake. Doing a remake of Earth Stood Still is like trying to remake The Godfather.

No, it's not like that at all. When held up to modern standards, The Godfather still works. The Day The Earth Stood Still doesn't. This isn't an insult to the film; the standards were different then and they worked with what they had. Today, that tin can robot is a joke. A crowd running in fast-forward is a joke. Making an updated version to be appreciated by audiences who would not appreciate the original is a perfectly reasonable endeavor.

As for people who do still appreciate the original, well, it's still there.

yea some films like those u mentioned are total classics and dont need to be remade/remake/etc.....

i didn't think this was a remake tho. i thought it was more/less a continuation of the franchise.

We thought it was a sequel, but now the producers describe it as a "reimagining."

oh really? damn...

when i first heard, I was soo pissed...i understand what you were saying earlier, but i feel it still stands up to time now.

then when it was gonna be a sequel type, i was more supportive. now back ot square one i suppose. :csad:

Yes, it does. That said, there is potential for a reimagining to be interesting, I suppose. Like you, I would have preferred a sequel.

There wasn't a 4th, unless you count the made-for-TV 'Robocop: Prime Directives'. Which is a horrible piece of junk.

Was that an actual movie? I recently discovered there was a tv show.

Prime Directives was more of a mini-series. Split into 4 two-hour parts.

yeah i think the first couple of episodes of the TV series are considered the 4th movie.

I never saw the DTV "Prime Directives" Robocop film. I remember the television show, but didnt really watch it that much.

If it is still robocop 4 I would not be shock if it will just ignore 2 and 3.

im excited to what the story could be about

ill say it will be a retired robocop that is having family problems due to an alcohol obsession

15 mins into the film robocops wife is and son Robo Jr are killed

then robocop goes around to robot grave yards and gives him self an upgrade and fights back at the drug lorgs

I hope they give Robocop a speed upgrade, perhaps put it in the story some how. I thought he was to slow in the old films to catch criminals, heck if he couldnt shoot you then you preety much escaped.

If he's faster and more nimble, he won't be Robocop, imo.

I like the way he has to find a way working around his speed restriction. It gives character.

If he can't shoot you through a wall or calculate a deflection off something, he'll get you some other way. :word:

I agree if his faster his not Robocop, hence the upgrade. I read above that its a reimagining so I am assuming they will do something like that anyway but with the initial story in tact (Cop gets killed becomes Robocop).

Robocop doesn't necessarily need to be quick. I think he could stand an upgrade, yes, but it'd make him more formidable by him just relying on his enhanced senses and let his prey think they'll get an easy run, rather than just tromp after someone and aim and shoot. (Sorry..."Westworld" was on TCM the other night, and that's the example I still have stuck in my head: the image of Yul Brynner hunting Richard Benjamin by tracking his thermal signature and the sound of his breath, all the while taking his sweet time to catch up to the poor guy.)

I think it works in the same vein of the horror characters (Jason, Freddy...). The psycho-creatures walk slowly and they get their victims, they don´t need to run like flash to catch them. Robo just needs his Auto-9 and BANG!, the baddie is dead. He even doesn´t need to do a step!

Making changes to the RoboCop character wouldn´t work well, because he´ll become Iron Man or somebody else, not Murphy. If you still think the upgrade will work, check RoboCop 3. In that movie Murphy have a weapon-arm and a jetpack... :whatever:

That s what I,m worried about the new Robocop. THey can't make him slow like the old days cause it wont make any sense, on the other hand if he is fast then that's Iron man!!! So the only way they can make it better than Iron man is if it's Rated R :csad:.
