RoboCop Returns?

Robocop was more satyrical than Iron Man, almost like a dark comedy at times, I hope they keep the same tone for the new one, I actually hope Verhoeven returns.

What I find interesting is that three of the main actors from the very first Robocop have been on 24. Paul McCrane and Peter Weller were on season five, Kurtwood Smith was recently killed off in an episode this season. Ray Wise is of course, the Devil on the show "Reaper." And it wasn't until the Academy Awards when I realized that the lead Sargent from the three movies had died.

Ray Wise was on 24 as well.

24 just needs to get Karen Allen, Miguel Ferrer, and Ronny Cox worked in there somewhere.

Does anyone think the presence of the IRON MAN franchise will hurt another ROBOCOP film? Or is that why the movie is being made?

Possibly. The only real similarity though would obviously be the look and appearance of the characters. Story and character wise though, its a whole different ball game really.

Aronofsky's Robocop Delayed Until 2011
By Gary Susman, 1:30 PM on Fri Jun 12 2009,

The announcement of a new Robocop comics title this week only reinforced our curiosity about the status of the upcoming movie reboot, about which we've heard nothing in recent months. So we called MGM and got the 411.

An MGM spokesman told us the project is still on track — though not for a 2010 release, as reports initially suggested. The rep said that the studio had told distributors at an event a couple weeks ago to expect the movie in 2011. He said director Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler, The Fountain) and screenwriter David Self (Road to Perdition) were still working on the script, and that no casting had been completed.

The new Dynamite Comics Robocop title announced this week is only the latest of many Robocomics, so Robologists shouldn't pore over its pages expecting details about the plot of Aronofsky's movie, the MGM spokesman said, though he added that he wouldn't be surprised to see another comic tie-in once the movie is released. He didn't have anything else to add about the movie, only that "Darren and David are working on it now, and we look forward to seeing it in 2011." And so do we.

Please say it's delayed forever.

I've never prayed about a movie before but I'm contemplating it with this one.

whats wrong with redoing robocop, yes the original is a classic and i enjoy it alot. But i wouldnt mind to see where darren takes the character.

Well I don't really think that I will have any say in the matter but I just think that some movies shouldn't be remade and this happens to be one of them.

I don't think that most directors understand what made Robocop work...hell, I don't think that most people period understand what made Robocop work.

The first Robocop movie is a satire, practically a black comedy. It's not some straight dark metaphysical action filck. Thats what I think DA is going to do with it judging by his pass work.

Yeah, I don't think that this is going to work. I just think that some things worked once and in all likeliness, NEVER will again, and I fear that this is one of them. But I could be wrong. If the movie is made, I hope that I am.

Well, I'm all for this. I think DA will do a great job. I've been wanting a new RoboCop film for quite a while. 2 & 3 sucked major, major ass. With the talent involved, there's no way this will be worse than those. I don't think he will turn this into a "dark metaphysical action flick." Yes, there will probably be some Aronofsky trademarks, but I have yet to run across anybody who doesn't think RoboCop is a black comedy/satire.

Robocop 2 was meh, but Robocop 3 made me want to commit suicide.

And I just ordered ROBOCOP 3 via Netflix.

Fantastic.

Well, I've uh..."waited" 17 years for this. I can wait another 2.

satire yes. but there was no comedy there. even the dark kind. doesn't have to go hand in hand.

agree with everything else. i dont' want to see an ironman ripoff.

Wait, what? Why would you do that?

Never seen it. Figured it couldn't be as bad as ROBOCOP 2. Wanted to see how it all ends.

It's so bad it doesn't even pass as a good mindless action movie like (for example) "Wolverine" does. But if you want to see the end, be my guess or you could just read the Wikipedia page. :oldrazz:

i think he should watch it even for completions sake. and he should judge on his own.

Robocop 2 and 3 are pretty funny to me because it's obvious the people behind the flicks didn't know why Robocop worked in the first place.

I'll be shocked if the next movie isn't played 90% straight and doesn't have a PG:13 rating.

I think Frank Miller got what made Robocop work, but the studio screwed him over big time and butchered his story. I recommend reading the comic book he did that was released by Avatar, if I'm not mistaken. It's an unaltered version of what his original idea was. I liked it, and thought it would have been one hell of a story to see on screen.

You're mistaken sir :csad:

The Robocop remake will not touch the original in anyway, and I'm sure the tone and such will be changed, but oddly enough...this doesn't anger me as much as some remakes. I think it is cause the sequels are SO bad.
