Tobey is most likely going to play Rick Hunter. Unless of course they reboot it in a way and create all new characters.

I think this can work. I myself much prefer the Gundam universe and think it would translate better to screen (well the original stuff or Wing, not Seed or G), but this is very promising. I just watched Starz Inside Comic Films and the producers there were predicting that anime and manga was the next frontier and I think there probably is a lot of potential there.

Max, Rick, and co. were all young guys at the start of the story. Roy Fokker was the oldest character at about 28. Part of the idea is that Rick is an idealistic young kid who's forced into manhood by the ravages of war.

Problem is that Rick enlists to become a pilot because of a young, airheaded **** . . . that marries her cousin.

No script was written before the strike. The deal was made just before the strike happened really.

Hard to believe though that WB will still go through with this after Speed Racer.

Speed Racer is a fine movie. They're just the victim of bad-timing and bad planning. If a movie like Iron Man didn't come out at the same time, it would have done much better, IMO.

You say that like I actually cared about the movie (I haven't seen it - but I did go see IM).

As opposed to just me rationalizing a reasonable circumstance, if Speed Racer's direct opponent in the Box Office wasn't Iron Man.

Sure, it might be an excuse. But is it a bad one?
