Rocky 6

I saw Rocky tonight, have to say it wasn't very good at all. It was slow, and dull. Seemed like they rushed the boxing match/training,and spent 90% of him remorsing of the past..
I did enjoy some of the dialoge in the film, especially between his son at his resteraunt(after he signed for the fight),thought it was very good.
Though the best one liner/phrase is 'whats wrong with standing in front of someone and saying I am'.

Saw this baby last night, and must say that I was very pleased with Rocky Balboa and also feel that, if anything else, the film is a very fitting way to end the franchise, and in alot of ways, have the character of Rocky Balboa go out on top with a much more satisfying closure to the character that was noticeably absent in the previous entry. Stallone was nothing short of spectacular in his final outing as Balboa, and Burt Young was, as always, entertaining to watch as Paulie.

The Mason Dixon character, although not as intimidating as some of Rocky's previous opponents, served his purpose in the story quite well I thought. True, he didnt have a whole hell of alot of screentime, but the time that was spent on his character did a fairly good job as fleshing the character out, and giving the audience a better feel of him before the boxing matchup at the end between himself and Balboa. Unfortunately, I felt his character echoed Tommy Gunn's character in alot of ways as he was too being labled a "paper champion" by the press, which left him wanting to prove his self worth to the nation just like what we saw out of Gunn in V. Other than that slight repetitiveness in characterization, I felt the film was nothing short of spectacular. And I must say I enjoyed every second of the big fight at the end.

Oh, and yes. I did enjoy seeing those two quick, and all too brief shots of Clubber & Ivan's bouts with Rocky that was shown on the video screen in anticipation for the Dixon/Balboa fight. ;)

This is actually the first Rocky movie I've ever seen and I loved it. :o I had a really enthusiastic crowd at my screening too. People were screaming and cheering like they had put money on the fight, it was crazy.

You should really rent the previous 5 and re-watch this.

This is such a nostalgic piece and has 100x more impact if you know all the references from the rest of the anthology.

I'm so looking forward to seeing this. Unfortunately for me, wifey does not feel like going and I don't like going to theaters by myself so I'll have to wait for dvd. In preparation I will be watching the first 5 (yes, even part 5) over and over again!

Brilliant movie! I just got back, and like Rocky proved he is not washed up, Sly did the same. The man is an incredibly talented director, actor, and writer. Great movie.

Academy Award worthy?

Man, this movie made me so happy. I remember when they were filming at the Art Museum steps, it was packed with people. He was running up the stairs with Punchy and Sly was really nice to everyone. And when I saw it with 2 of my friends in a sold out theater, everyone started clapping when the music started playing. And it got a big ovation at the end. Philly loved it.

Doubtful, but a great send off none the less. Although I wouldn't be suprised if Sly at least got a nod for best original screenplay.

I didn't see that scene at the showing I went to, I think my theater had edited it out.

Seriously? They cut out the scene where they tell him
that he can't fight and then he goes on about how its wrong to deny a person their dream
That part? If so, that's freaking crazy.

I went with a friend who was a hardcore Rocky fan and he kind of filled me on the little details and appearances, but yah, I do want to see the other ones now.

It was kinda like that for me here, there were a few people clapping loudly toward the end of it.

Well, I saw it last night on its opening night. I really enjoyed the film and found it to be an excellent send-off to a brilliant character. The only thing that disappointed me was the training sequences with Rocky.

Part of me was hoping Stallone would've recreated the "Gonna Fly Now" sequence with him running and beginning to run faster, then proceed to run up the stairs which would bring a whole nostalgic feel from the first film.

But I must say the emotional moments of Rocky remembering Adrian and visiting her grave really got to me.

When Paulie asks him "you're mad that Adrian left you?" Seeing Rocky just lose himself because the true love of his life is gone made me feel for him.

Paulie realizing how horrible he treated Adrian was another heartwrencher.

All in all it was a really great film that ended the saga perfectly.

By the way, did anyone think it was a really nice touch to have Apollo's trainer, training Rocky?

Having Duke train Rocky was very reminiscent of ROCKY IV, but I felt it was a nice touch. I liked his speech about Rocky's limitations, and what needed to be worked on, and like so other aspects of the film, it helped bring things full circle. Which was the way it should most definately be.

Didn't you kill Apollo? Damn you, damn you straight to hell! Oh wait......

Apollo's death in Rocky IV was the most ridiculous and obvious plot point ever concieved. It was a footnote, used simply to intensify the villainry of Ivan Drago. And I don't think Apollo was even mentioned of after the fight, I guess Sly was too busy ending the Cold War with his speech!

Yeah, Rocky IV sucked. :(

However, I really liked Rocky V and I feel that Rocky Balboa, now that I've seen it, is about equally good. Not better, not worse. Rocky is less of a jerk, Paulie is more of a jerk. The movie as a whole is pretty uplifting in the end, but very slow to get there. The dramatic scenes are kind of slow and hard to take without the presence of Talia Shire to help liven them up, but Geraldine Hughes was great too and also pretty dang cute - Rocky should've tapped that. :P

As uplifting as the film was overall, though...

...I wish they hadn't had the final scene take place in a fricking GRAVEYARD. Way to kill the excitement right there and end it all on a down note.

The last shot of the movie which they show halfway into the credits was really beautiful, too. I hope you guys stuck around to see it.

Oh, and I liked that Mason Dixon wasn't a full-blown "villian." Also good. The boxing itself was pretty good too, one of the better fights in the series.

Good stuff all told, even if the first half is more of a downer than any film before it in the franchise.

Well Apollo was seen in flashback's during Balboa's drive after being told by Adrianne that he couldnt possibly win. Also let's not forget Sly wearing Apollo's trunks during his bout with Drago. And he was mentioned by Duke shortly after the opening credits of ROCKY V, and even briefly by Rocky in ROCKY BALBOA as well. So he's clearly a character thats not forgotten, but apparently Stallone felt he needed to write Carl Weathers out, and from what he had to say about him during his very recent Q&A with AICN, I doubt Sly has any regrets. ;)

Personally, I doubt Weathers would've been asking for those thousands of dollars for a flashback appearance if not for the fact that he's bitter about getting killed off for no reason. :oldrazz:

And here I was thinking it was simply due to greed. :o

^Definitely stick around for the credits - a great scene with Rocky from the famous steps.

Saw twice yesterday. On the first showing there was about 20 people. It was an early afternoon show. I couldn't enjoy the film that much since I had a ******ed couple talking all through the film and making stupid comments. Kids these days. . .

I went to the 9 O' clock show and the theater was packed. People were into the film from beginning to end. Lots of cheering, clapping and screaming, which is rare these days.

I loved the film from beginning to end. I got choked up a few times but got pumped up for most of the film. I only have three nitpicks:

*The brain damage was not addressed as was written in the script. It would've been nice to acknowledge Rocky V in some sort of way.

*I thought Rocky was coming out to the remix version of The Eye of the Tiger that was heard on trailer 2. I didn't like Sinatra's song.

*No Apollo Creed on the HBO montage before the fight.

The film was the perfect send off for the franchise. Can't wait for the whole collection with extras comes out next year.

$6.2 million for RB yesterday. SUPERB opening for a $24 million dollar film.

Don't bother debating me on the budget, I double checked......:yay:

I hope this kills Night at the Museum.

The only obvious acknowledgement of Rocky V that I caught was Rocky saying "Home team!" to his son, which made me smile. :)

My big gripe with the movie is that, in spite of all its strengths... it's just not well directed.

Most of the first half of the film is shot with a bunch of static handheld shots, so the screen is wobbling around for no reason. I despise the way that "shakycam" is permeating Hollywood because people think it makes you feel "like you're there." It doesn't do that at all, because when I'm looking at something, I don't wobble my eyes uncontrollably. It's just annoying as hell. Plus Stallone frequently uses X-TREME CLOSE-UP! views. And by frequently I mean "every other shot" pretty much. It's so common that I was leaning back in my chair in a vain attempt to back the hell up.

Then, during the fight sequence, the mindless use of Sin City-style spot color and Gatorade "Is it IN you?!"-style blood served no point other than to call attention to the fact that it was possible for him to do it. It doesn't highlight anything relevant to the actual match. At first I thought he might only use it when Rocky was getting slammed really hard, to illustrate how he was losing touch with reality from the power of the blows... unnecessary, but understandable. But of course that's not the case, he ends up using it for the entire montage of rounds 3-9.

So yeah, Stallone's skill as a director has apparently severely deteriorated since the '80s. Luckily it didn't detract too much from the great points of the film. :)

First of all, you should use spoilers when talking about them. Second of all, we expect intelligent, civilized and mature posts. If you just want to antagonize and insult people who have different views you're in for a war.

It's evident you didn't watch the film, so shut up and crawl back to the hole you came out of. . .newbie.

Nah, I just got back from seeing it again. It clearly shows some snippets from the final fights from the first two Rockys.

Hmm, way to be civilized and mature there, buddy. :whatever:
