Rocky 6

What was the original ending?

All credit goes to Stallone Dome. This end was featured on a magazine.

You may have heard Sylvester Stallone
Actually considered killing off his cinematic alter
Ego in, Rocky V but was persuaded by United
Artists management to let the hero live.
You can’t kill off a cherished figure, Stallone
Was told.
But after taking an exclusive peak at Stallone’s
Original script , dated July 24, 1989, one
Can only conclude that the actor-writer was
Right.
But get a load of the original ending, which was never filmed.

Rocky. Suffering from too many shots in the
Head during his fight against Tommy Gunn. Has collapsed in
Adrian’s arms after one last fight in the streets
Of Philadelphia.

A POLICEMAN SPEAKS: ’’The ambulance is a
Minute away-’’

ADRIAN: When you get to the hospital, you’ll
Be all right.’’

ROCKY: ’’My hands are cold.’’

ADRIAN (she takes his hands) : Ill warm them,
What ever you want.’’

ROCKY: I don’t want the kid to see me like
This.’’

ADRIAN: ’’He woun’t.’’

ROCKY: ’’Adrian, you’re the only thing i ever
Loved. I only want us to be happy. Y’know.’’

ADRIAN (pregnant with a girl): ’’I know.When
You get better. We’ll go away for a rest and get
Ready for the baby,’’

ROCKY: I can’t wait to see my daughter. It’s
gonna be great..’’

But,then according to the script: ’Rocky’s
Hand slackens in Adrian’s grip and his body
Slips into motionless repose. His eyes close,
Leaving his face sublimely peaceful.’’

ADRIAN: ’’ Rocky?? Rocky?? Oh God, don’t go,
Rocky. Please, Oh God don’t take him.I love
You’, don’t leave me.

An ambulance arrives and paramedic forces
Their way through the crowd.

PARAMEDIC: ’’We’re ready, Mrs.Balboa. We’ll
take him now.’’

ADRIAN (softly): You’ll never take him.’’

The scene fades and dissolvas
through the image of Adrian cradling Rocky’s
head and fades in on the museum steps:
Adrian stands beside the massive bronze
statue of Rocky: Below her is a large gathering
of press and friends.’’

ADRIAN: ’’Rocky Balboa passed away early
This morning, and with my husband went a man
Who proved you don’t have to be born great to
Achieve greatness. From his humble beginnings,
He became a symbol for many that life
dosent make the man, the man makes the life.
As long as there are people willing to meet
Challenges of life and not surrender until their
Dreams become realities, the world will always
have there Rocky’s (she looks at the statue)
I’ll always love you.’’

Stallones script concludes with this instruction
: the camera pans up to the powerful
statue and after a moment it dissolves into the
same spot where years before an unknown
fighter danced jubilatly and raised his hands in
his victory over life. The scene freezes-on
Rocky’s leap of triumph.’’

I gotta tell you Bad Supes, Stallone's original ending for Rocky V is SUPERB. There would not have been a dry eye in the house.....

But seeing the tone of the film now, something that dramatic might have felt out of place.

Also, the other original ROCKY poster has a shot of Rocky and Adrian holding hands from behind - a poster I have on my wall.........

I loved the original idea for Rocky V's end. I wish they went on a similar direction for RB but with a twist in order to give closure to the series.

About the poster, well, I was expecting something different. I like the black and white effect, but in terms of content I would've loved to see something like the pic were Rocky is facing the crowd after the fight with both arms raised while he gives a final glance to the ring.

UPDATE:

This is the shot I was referring to:

There is a similar one where the Rocky name is a bit more visible from the back of his robe and you can see the ring.

That ending would have made me break out crying. :(

Me too! That ending would of really redeemed R5, but I am so glad we are getting RB.

After reading the ending to Rocky 5. I am convinced that Rocky will die in this one. I wasn't to sure before. Now I am 100% sure.

Did anybody else read the spoiler review that AICN posted a few months back? I did. So I already know how the new one ends. I was too curious to find out.

So I watched Rocky V and apparently being "brain-damaged" means that you develop an unhealthy obsession with Burgess Meredith and CONSTANTLY pull crap out of people's ears.

But overall I gotta say, I really dug it. Yeah, okay, Rocky loses his money and that sucks, and he acts like a dick for around 30 minutes or so and that really sucks... but it all works out in the end, and I loved the overall story. I loved the fact that it was more dramatic, like the first two films. I loved the drama of the "mentor vs. student" conflict - that always makes for good stuff. I loved how the fight this time was a bare-knuckle street fight to the finish, a great little twist. I was even shocked that I really liked Sage Stallone's acting! I was expecting him to be a sucky piece of nepotism, but he was damn good. Even Paulie wasn't as much of an ass this time to his family. He actually was aware of ROCKY being a dick, which was interesting. And hey, Adrian got to actually do stuff! Talia Shire was allowed to act instead of just yell "HIT HIM! ROCKYYYY!" occasionally! Nice.

After reading that original ending, I think that might've been the way to go. I'd probably rather have Adrian alive and Rocky dead than the reverse. :(

I'm glad you enjoyed Rocky V. Viewers are pretty much split over RV. Personally, I enjoyed it. Rocky Balboa will address the "brain damage" issue and reviews from private screenings have been very good. Can't wait for December.

The feel-good movie of the year which
spends half of its running time at a gravesite?

The early test screening review. The review was mostly positive, he thought it was good drama, but he did think that it was kind of depressing how much of it was spent at Adrian's grave. He said there were six or seven scenes at the gravesite, and when Rocky ISN'T at the grave he's still obsessing over her because he can't let go.

Given how much she meant to Rocky and was his driving force, it's only natural he feels lost without her...

That's pretty cool. I'm wondering if this will be the official new method of training for the movie - hammering crap? Either that or "keg-lifting" as seen in the trailer.

The second movie gave us chicken chasing. The third one gave us beach running. The fourth gave us wood-chopping. Now "sledge hammering"?

just thought i would share this fan poster i made, is tehre an official poster yet??

Very nice. I would substitue the VI with Balboa. The film's official title is Rocky Balboa.

This reminds me - has the film officially been pushed back to Febuary, or have we heard for certain yet? Last I heard, the "official" word was still Christmas...

Rocky!!!

Cant wait for this but Rocky better not die dammit.
I think he should lose on points like he did against Apollo the first time,
but not die dammit. That would be frikkin dumb, like Apollo dieing.
Rocky would not do what Apollo did.
