Rocky 6

Nah. Cheesy. The whole point of the movie was Rocky coming to terms with everything he's been through. Killing him off would have been pointless and cheap.

AMAZING film what a great send off to an amazing character, every punch rocky landed made me jump up and want to cheer

Good movie.

The editing was a bit off. I mean, there was a scene where Rocky was making a speech, and it cuts away to a wider shot but Rocky's mouth didn't match up with the dialogue. It was noticable, as hell.

Then there's the love for the 'fade in/fade outs'. I dont' know...

I did like the speech that Rocky gave to his son about taking punches in life. That was great, INDEED, because it's so ...geniune. You can relate to Rocky and how he views life.

In some ways, the movie is depressing. It kinda gives off the vibe that the current times doesn't respect the past, even though we're going through a time of nostigia (styles, remakes, music, etc).

But it's a great movie. I give it a solid B..

I will be the first one to buy this masterpiece on DVD.

I can now purchase the whole collection in good conscious. If a series has to faulter, I would rather for it to happen in the middle and end strong and The Rocky Saga did just that.

I'm really happy for Stallone. I've been a huge fan of his since 1976 with the original Rocky movie and the questions he answered on AICN just confirmed the kind of person I imagined him to be: down to earth.

Stallone like his alter ego, is a survivor. Just when he is ready to be counted out, he comes right back.

Here's hoping he can do the same with Rambo and with the great review of his script, it looks very possible.

^I agree.
Because of Rocky Balboa, I can now buy the whole series.

If Rocky Balboa was a masterpiece with doubts before it came out, then Rambo may have it very well.
Lightning may strike twice here.

What is funny is that a 60 year old John Rambo living in Tailand who becomes recruited for a search and rescue mission is much more plausible than a 60 year old Rocky who comes back from retirement and fights a 35 year old Heavyweight champion to a split decision (which Stallone of course successfully pull it off.)

Cannot wait for Rambo!

Thats great. MGM/SONY made a good decision greenlighting this movie.

Before Sony purchased MGM, MGM said no to Stallone.

Stupid suits.

Exactly. $31m already on a budget of $24m. It's going to carry on because of good word of mouth, plus the DVD sales will be huge.

A nice profit will be made by MGM and Stallone. I'm sure Stallone took a back-end deal to get this film made, and it's going to pay off in a big way for him. Congrats again Sly........

Its hard to believe that film only cost $24m. It looked great. I would have guess at least $75m if not more.

I never did check out the new Rocky movie, is it worth my time and money?

If you enjoyed the original Rocky in 1976 and you like the character of Rocky Balboa then you will really enjoy this movie.

Actually the only movie from the series that is required viewing for the new Rocky is the original.

He's sixty years old and thats not necessarily the most flattering pic of him either.

Awesome movie. Half the people in the audience were standing up and clapping at the end.

'Rocky''s Comeback Revives MGM

MGM will not only make money in theaters from its release of Rocky Balboa, the sixth Rocky film, but it also stands to make big bucks from the older Rocky movies, the London Financial Times observed today (Thursday). "We own the first five movies and have set DVD catalogue promotions around the world to coincide with the release of Rocky Balboa," Rick Sands, chief operating officer of MGM, told the FT. Sands said that a promotional Rocky DVD pack being offered by Wal-Mart is "selling very big numbers." Sands also observed that the studio has relicensed TV rights so that the older films can be rebroadcast around the time of the current movie release.

Library of Congress Selects New Films for Preservation

Twenty-five new films have been selected for preservation for posterity by the Library of Congress. Among the films to be included in the National Film registry are Blazing Saddles (1974), Fargo (1996), Groundhog Day (1993), Halloween (1978), Rocky (1976), and sex, lies and videotape (1989). The list includes several films dating back to the silent era and the early days of sound, including the 1913 movieTraffic in Souls.

Nice.

Now that we have a new SE of the first Rocky, we need a ultimate boxset at some point down the line (and hopefully near future) that includes SE's of Rocky 2-5, and of course Rocky Balboa as well.
