It was good for what it was, the action sequences were nice little roller coaster rides. I thought the movie was pretty vicious in the way it killed people off, not that I was offended or anything, just a little surprised. For example the scene where the

took me back for a sec and then I immediately laughed my ass off. The characters were all cookie cutter drones of course, but for some reason I had a bit of love for Sasha (the Russian pilot) I think the movie should have solely been based around him.

So I should be blown away, or impressed, with every use of CGI in film?

I've never taken a film class, too, so should find even Uwe Boll's or Tyler Perry's films interesting?

Also, I don't see how I was being "over-bearingly harsh". I simply stated my opinion that the action sequences didn't really impress me; I didn't chew the film out or say something along the lines of "it looked like a ****ing video game!"

to be honest, 2012 was stupid but it was actually well written..for what the movie is.

I had a hard time looking this up, but is John Cusack half Asian? After seeing Say anything and then 2012, I'm convinced he is.

The CGI was great but the destruction was TOO massive and literally unbelievable.

why would you design a ship that cant operate with the gate down...or at least has a manual over ride or compartmentalized so they could have closed off the back...seems like asking for trouble.

I know you were joknjg but seriously though people think that Cameron is this overly critical perfectionist when it comes to CGI. That is true...when it's his movie. When it comes to the movies of others , he'll be just as much impressed with good CGI as any other regular joe out there.

Roland Emmerich. End of the world. Again. Despite the audience fatigue surrounding disaster movies, one director has managed to produce the kind of visually destructive spectacle that was once reserved for the Statue of Liberty at the end of Planet of the Apes. Between Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow, the earth is never safe when Emmerich steps behind the lens, and if the footage at the Con was enough to get James Cameron to geek out about it in front of a reporter, you know this one’s going to be one hell of a ride. The new decidedly horrifying poster art is below.

Sony Pictures announced today its 2012 opened as a runaway No. 1 with $23.6 million Friday (including $1M in Thursday midnights) and $24.8M Saturday (+5%) from 3,404 theaters, with the studio expecting another $16.6M on Sunday. That's a $65M domestic weekend and $160M international Wednesday through Sunday launch (with 2/3s of the 100 territories releasing day and date starting Friday, including North America). So it's on its way past $225M worldwide for its first 5 days.

While 2012 did have a good opening weekend , it's the weekend drop off of the 2nd week that IMO is more important. AND the fact that Twlight will open next week , will definately lower the drop off more. Not that Sony need to worry. Twilight will be big in the US but i doubt they'll have as much success in foreign markets. 2012 will most likely continue dominate the market for some time.

The only thing thing that IMO would've helped 2012 more was to release it in IMAX. But i guess Christmas Carol was already booked

I think alot of people in my audience loved too because his comments struck the tight notes.
The scene with the russian dude starting the car was also funny . And again how many women clapped at the scene where the russian lady gives her husband the finger

Yeah, 2012 featured some strangely enduring characters.

Speaking of clichés , anyone else find is strange that they didn't have the cliche scene of one of the heroes punching the *****e in his face and taking control.

By the end i was wondering when Chiwetel Ejiofor was going to punch Oliver Platt in the face

True.
Like i said in my review, the real storyline is with them. Not Cusack and co.
Platt's character raises valid points. For example getting enough money to build the arks by allowing rich people to buy seats .
To me he is more the type of person who tries to get the job dine , by any means possible.

I actually found myself agreeing with him in many cases. For example the phonetapping of everyone.

this was suprisingly good...it wasn't utter ****.... just mostly ****. Way over the top, But with Roland Emmerich.... how could it not be.

Thought the CGI was amazing, and the non-family plot was actually interesting.

Was confused by the Arks though... thought the blurb said they were spaceships... looked more like 'normal' ships to me..... and who was the captain of the American ship? He looked familiar..

This movie was so preposterous with that said I still had a good time.

Like some of you I also left surprised that I enjoyed myself and didn't find myself questioning the complete cluster***** of destruction going on because the characters did a god job of getting me engaged.

Have to hand it to Ejiofor he did a fantastic job and he is one of the principle reasons why this movie still doesn't become unglued by the chaos going on.

Cusack & company did a good enough job too. While the movie feels like it followed the basic Emmerich blue print of his disaster movies he was still able to execute this differently enough that it felt somewhat fresh.

Glad it was at least better than I thought it was going to be. My expectations were at a complete low but the movie delivered on everything a disaster movie of this magnitude can accomplish. I never felt that the characters that were presented to us become lost in all the mayhem, which is definitely a plus.

Michael Bay take a pointer from Emmerich's characters. Just because there is complete destruction going on screen doesn't mean the characters have to become complete pieces of cardboard.

I knew the special effects would be amazing,and i knew it would be full of all the big disaster flick cliches.Scientists who see disaster coming before any of the governments top scientists ✔,uncaring politician ✔,family with strained relationships ✔,one liners ✔,
someone gives a big sermon on humanity vs inhumanity ✔,characters introduced just so we can watch them perish in spectacular ways ✔.
Despite all of this John Cusack, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Oliver Platt manage to be watchable and 2012 is quite fun
