Tom Rothman says: "The version that went out is unfinished. It's about 10 minutes shorter, doesn't have key scenes, it wasn't edited, and none of the effects shots were in any remotely final form," Rothman tells EW. "It's a complete misrepresentation of the film and is deeply unfair to the people who have worked on it for years."

Rothman is touting a bunch of footage shot in Canada earlier this year that he says is not even included in the version online. And he insists that both he and Hugh Jackman have vowed to stop at nothing to get the movie out to as many fans as possible. "Hugh was heartbroken and hurt when he found out. He's lived with this thing for 10 years. But he's also a man and knows that life isn't fair, and is more determined than ever," Rothman says. "Hugh and I exchanged e-mails: Basically, we're not going to let the bastards win. But we didn't use the word 'bastards.' That's a slightly sanitized version."

Could this be the truth or are Fox just trying to ensure the opening weekend box office is as big as possible with people desperate to see the so-called new version?

I, for one, hope it's true for the sake of the movie and the future of the character as a franchise.

I am sure that they are adding every scrap of footage they can salvage into this mess just so they can say "see, it is a different film...please pay to see it!". The catering guy probably has a cameo now (and better characterization than half the cast).

Sure, the editing will be better...sure the effects will be nice. But theres only so much polish you can put on a turd until you realize that that baby just aint gonna shine.

I think what he says is true.

No one could make a film this baffling and fractured and get a decent actor to sign up for it. But an extra 10 minutes couldn't change an entire movie; could it?

It worked for Daredevil.

Then again, that was like 30 minutes longer. ha.

I can't front, I feel bad for these guys. Especially Hugh. I can imagine wantin to show off your project, only to have it spoiled. Probably feels like someone broke into your house and stomped on your birthday cake. I mean Hugh is a pure showman and entertainer. Dude dances and sings and does all kinds of s#$%, he's probably bummed that he didn't get to deliver this the way he wanted.

I'm still seeing it in theaters. I just have no need to do a midnight showing. I mean, I saw X3 3 times in theaters. I'm an X-Men ****e.

Well, I'm staying away from the spoiler boards now, and I will *not* watch this film online. I'm feeling sorry for those guys who worked on Wolverine. But I was sure glad to read on BBC that Fox confirmed the missing time. If you'd have ever taken narratology classes, you would know that finished effects, score and 10 added minutes can completely alter a film like this. Also, judging an unfinished effect-heavy action flick on a computer screen? Not something I can imagine.

True that. The directors cut was practically a completely different movie and was SO much better.

Saving my judgement until the final film comes out. Not building up any high hopes, I learned my lesson from Watchmen on that. Dont think its going to be great, but as long as its entertaining enough, it cant be any worse than X3.

Here's the whole article.

Exclusive: Fox chairman says leaked 'Wolverine' is an 'unfinished version' and 'a complete misrepresentation of the film'
Apr 2, 2009, 11:03 PM | by Christine Spines

Before he even opened the e-mail he received at around 7 p.m. on Tuesday night, Tom Rothman, chairman of Twentieth Century Fox, knew it contained the news he'd dreaded most: An outdated copy X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the big summer tentpole movie that the studio had spent "hundreds of millions of dollars" to make, had been put up on the Internet in its entirety for fans to download at will. It was every studio chief's worst nightmare. "The version that went out is unfinished. It's about 10 minutes shorter, doesn't have key scenes, it wasn't edited, and none of the effects shots were in any remotely final form," Rothman tells EW. "It's a complete misrepresentation of the film and is deeply unfair to the people who have worked on it for years."

Rothman says Fox and the FBI are zeroing in on the culprits and he feels confident that they'll be able to name the perpetrators soon. Although early reports named Rising Sun Pictures, an Australian special effects house that worked on the movie, as a possible suspect due to a watermark with their logo that appeared on parts of the bootlegged copy, Rising Sun contacted EW this evening and denied any wrongdoing. "We worked on individual sections of the film and Rising Sun Pictures or its staff members have never been in possession of a complete version," said Rising Sun chairman Tony Clark in a statement. "It's common practice for work in progress between us and the production to carry vendor watermarks and for these to be integrated into various edits of the film for screenings, which would explain why our name appears."

Regardless, the experience will change the way the studio does business with special effects houses and post production facilities in the future.

"We, like everybody, thought our system was secure," Rothman says.

"Just like I'm sure there are lots of banks that get robbed that thought their vault was safe. We thought the post-production pipeline was secure at every juncture. But, obviously, it's self-evident that it wasn't. I have a high level of confidence we'll find out where the lapse in security was and we'll bring the perpetrators to justice."

While it's impossible to tabulate the actual amount of financial damage
caused by a high-profile act of creative theft such as this one, Rothman hopes that it will be somewhat contained since the conventional wisdom is that the people who download movies also tend to be the alpha-fans who pay to see the same film multiple times in theaters. "The picture is not the kind of movie people get the whole experience of by watching on their computer. But other than The Hulk, I don't think a movie with this kind of anticipation has been stolen. And it's also a big deal because of how early it is." Meaning, there's a whole month before the movie is in theaters, and that gives fans a long time to get their fill of X-Men and move on.

But the filmmakers are determined not to let that happen.

Hopefully that footage can clean up some of the Deadpool stuff. We know that was mostly for Reynolds cause he was not available. The more interviws I hear with Reynolds the more it sounds like they are trying to set him up for his own film. Not saying 10 min can change a film. But hopefully 10 min can change that character.

I will judge it when its released.

10 minutes isn't going to change the problems that are inherent in the script. Hopefully it does help beef up Ryan Reynold's screentime, but even that won't make me want to see it again.

How in the hell can a workprint be a "complete misrepresentation of the film"? It's a rough edit, not something that was thrown together without the director and studio consent.

Nice to see them Panicking because the people who seen it are not bagging on FX and the actors performances, but the basic storyline and structure of the film. Tell's me they underestimated the wrath of burned comic book fans.

Barakapool is probably Rothmans baby, so he feels a little slighted.

INTERVIEWER: "Whats this X-men 3 script review that came out?" (the one that stated, Cyclops, Prof. X die, Magneto & Mystique lose their powers, etc.)

ROTHMAN: "Its complete nonsense...a complete and utter fabrication. Its absurd, knowing what was shot, it was completely made up."

THEN...X3 came out.

Seriously, Rothman can go "f*** a goat." He's doing damage control, simple as that. But I wouldn't be surprised if the film released on May 1 is EXACTLY what was leaked.

Again, Rothman...go f*** a goat.

Is it the script review of Rouge gaining everybodys powers Wolverine sleeping with Storm Gambit's wasted cameo?

That interview was interesting. Rothman initially calls the review a complete fabrication then admits that the review was right about the cure storyline.

Unfortunate - this film had the potential to be very good, but the inclusion of too many mutants, a short runtime, and a poor script once again will contribute to a Rothman disappointment.

What's his success record? X-Men and X2?

20% success rate over at FOX? Marvel, please get these properties under your control......

Rothman also said this movie is easier to understand than Dark Knight and alot more emotional than Batman or Two-Face haha. >_>
