The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Rotten Tomatoes score? - Part 3

Status
Not open for further replies.
Um nope. I was actually rooting for this film after they cast Jamie as Electro. I wanted it to be good and I even defend the Woodley casting twice. All for a sequel to a film I didn't like.

Nah you were very vocal on CBM. Pretty much every article.

Same here, I stopped paying heed to RT some time ago, and the score for this movie is another nail in their coffin when it comes to me taking the site seriously.

And on the flipside RT would have saved me a lot of pain when it came to seeing awful movies like The Transformers series (Part 2 was the last straw for me), Man of Steel, etc. I find that more and more these days the consensus at RT rarely gets it wrong. If a movie is panned it's usually for good reason.

We're talking Pre-production not production. I was sold with Jamie. It was during my Django high period.

I didn't like TASM1 but once Jamie was cast I thought "this could be good but I'm still worried".

I don't know I totally agree with this. In this case they are probably pointless, because I don't think the reviews are going to stop many from seeing the film, at least the ones that wanted to see it.

I can tell you that RT scores definitely influence me on movie watching. I have not seen Robocop, Trancendence, Divergent, Monuments Men and Rio 2 based solely on the RT scores. There are other films that I didn't have any intention of seeing, but went to anyway based on the RT scores. Captain Phillips would be an example, MoneyBall would be another.

Whether someone reads movie critics or just listens to the opinions of friends on if they liked a movie or not, we are all influenced by "critics".

For me it's an issue of in this economy with movies as expensive as they are, I want to maximize my entertainment dollars. I get really angry when I go see a movie, that I think is going to be good and it turns out to suck.

The way fresh/rotten is determined makes the entire thing pointless. There was a largely positive Cap 2 review but it was still assigned as a rotten. That's worthless.

No doubt people look at the score, but when the score is rendered flat out wrong by that kind of arbitrary decision making it ceases to be useful imo

So may I ask, is today the day I get to say I told you so? :woot:
As long as you consider this the one time you get to do it. I don't want people stirring crap in here.

I've said for years...I can't believe young people today actually let sites like Rt determine what they watch and in some cases like.

When it comes to looking for quality films, sites like RT do give you a general idea of what film to watch, and what to expect. They're not allways 100% right, but most of the time they are good judges of films. If you're looking to be entertained, then it's a completelly different thing, depending on what you're looking for, you can find enjoyment in even films that are technically not good.

Someone shouldn't let sites like RT dictate what they should enjoy, that is true. But it's also very insulting to critics and their profession to go ahead and say they don't matter at all.

Well, since the film is rotten we don't have to worry anymore about the tomatoe meter. I literally feel like this about each negative review now @46s:

"They have nothing to threaten me with"

I will say, I never hoped for the score to be this low. I mean I felt it could be fresh but not this low.

Didn't TASM1 get like a 78 or 80?

I thought maybe in the 70s. That lower but I didn't like TASM1 so it's higher for me.

and it also would have reccomended that you see anchorman 2 so...

I can_NOT believe that TASM2 has went all the way down to a 57% rating! The lowest rated Spidey flick ever, by far! W.T.F!!?

This film seriously does not deserve it. It's a good Spidey flick! I can't believe what I'm seeing.

We should all have your strength of conviction.
I went to watch ASM2 again because of all the negative reviews just to confirm I enjoyed it. And the inverse of that is I went to watch Inception again because of all the positive reviews to see what the heck I had missed because for me the movie was 'meh'.
If I thought like you I'd be richer, metaphorically and literally :cwink:

As you can see, if I only watched the movies that the majority approved of, I would have a much shorter list. :woot:

I remember seeing Transformers 2. I didn't know what RT was and I felt it was ok. Not as good though. Then I saw it again when it was on TV and I was like "wow this sucks worse than I thought".

First Class has like a high grade and I felt that film was only ok. Like 6/10 ok.

Man of Steel wasn't panned and neither is ASM2. If you're in the 50's on RT, that means over half of the critics said it was worth watching. A pan would be something like Transcendence where over 80% of the critics said it wasn't worth watching.

That's quite an impressive list, C. Lee. I still have to catch up on at least 10 films from 2013 :csad:.

Can someone explain to me why its been panned in North America? Is there anything in that. Seemed to be much better received elsewhere.

^ This.

A RT score above 50's does not mean that the movie is panned. It means that movie is mediocre.

Lone Ranger, Transcendence, Green Lantern are examples of "panned movies".

As you can see, if I only watched the movies that the majority approved of, I would have a much shorter list. :woot:

Wow... Don't be afraid to stick your head out and check the weather. Jeez, I don't know what life would be like to have that kind of casual time.

It was being panned it other places too.

Don't blame Merica for this film's on RT. DONT YOU PUT THAT CURSE ON ME RICKY BOBBY!!!!!!!!!

If the critic doesn't make a quantifiable review, (i.e. 3 out of 5 stars) then yes the RT staff have to determine if it is fresh or rotten. I don't see how the staff would want for something that is supposed to be a positive review, be made rotten. There is a certain amount that is subjective in that right, and also sometimes they have made mistakes, marked a rotten review that was meant to be fresh, and vice versa. In the grand scheme of things, those situations are less than 1% of the accounted reviews, so I don't see how that has an effect on the overall rating.

Should Cap 2 be at 90%? 85%? 95%? Does it matter?

If someone had told me months ago, that Tasm2 would be rated at 56% just like man of steel, I would've never believed it. Mos sucks. Tasm2 does not.

I'm not blaming anyone. It just seems to have plummeted around the N American release. Was wondering why that was.

...is your avatar supposed to be ironic or something?

I remember seeing Transformers 2. I didn't know what RT was and I felt it was ok. Not as good though. Then I saw it again when it was on TV and I was like "wow this sucks worse than I thought".

First Class has like a high grade and I felt that film was only ok. Like 6/10 ok.

i love FC, but i´ve seen many who think it´s "meh" and most of my friend also think it´s "meh" but has 87% on RT, as for TASM2 most of my friends loved it, at first i didn´t like it as much as i like it now after 3 viewings (maybe 4 tomorrow :woot:), for me is still max an 8.5 to me and it´s not better than TASM,there are scenes i HATE :cmad: but more scenes that i LOVE :hrt: and i think it deserves better than 57% i think a fair score would be 65% but that´s the fun of movies it speaks different to every one of us.

Man of Steel wasn't panned and neither is ASM2. If you're in the 50's on RT, that means over half of the critics said it was worth watching. A pan would be something like Transcendence where over 80% of the critics said it wasn't worth watching.

I agree with this.

Well the good news is such the first one got good reviews and I disliked it and these reviews aren't good, maybe I will like it. It's like a reverse effect.
