I don't know if I'm the only one who heard that from different reviews, but some say that Brandon Routh do not have a lot of lines in the movie. Does that scares you? I wouldn't say that it scares me, but I think it's a bit disappointing if it's true.

I find that hard to believe. I mean, it's SUPERMAN Returns, and he is Superman. Who knows, we'll find out.

He doesnt have as many as maybe you would want. But hes new he will have more next time. And believe it or not he is a very wonderful actor. He does a wonderful job.

i've only read one review so far that's said that. and i can live with it. neo only had one point in time in the first matrix movie where he spoke more than one sentence in a row, and i never would have noticed that had i not read it somewhere.

superman's always been a man of few words, and i'd rather see clark be shy then run around saying things like 'gee golly'.

Good point.

I totally agree. I would rather Superman have less lines than more lines. He's not suppose to be saying corny things while trying to save a plane. Just let him do his work and then talk once everything is okay.

wow i didn't notice that about neo

Actually, Reeve didn't have a whole lotta dialogue in Superman, either. At least when you consider him as the lead. His scenes with Lois? She did most of the talking. His scenes as Supes - not saying anything.
Superman - strong and silent.

His lips don't say much, but his eyes speak volumes. ;)

Neo is not a very good comparison. He didn't know much about the world he was in. All Keanu had to do was sit there with the blank "duh" expression while Morpheus filled in the blanks for him. I would expect a bit more from Clark Kent/Superman.

^ true, but in essence, Superman is in a world he doesn't know much of anymore. All he knows is that they need a savior, but at the same time they claim they don't need him anymore, so of course that would leave him a bit lost, and silent.

The majority of reviews praise his performance has the highpoint of the film.

Whatever lines he gets, he seems to be able to do them right.

Routh does a brilliant job. I know people were worried and the fact that he was an unknown made their worries manifest in a huge way.

Have no fear, Routh IS Clark and IS Superman(IMO). He is the living personification of everything we come to know and love about the Man of Steel.

My favorite moment of him as Clark is a simple and yet funny one;

Richard asks Lois if Superman can hear everything and see through anything, then he basically starts asking Lois about Clark and asks him how tall he is, how much he weighs, and start hinting that he may be Superman. Which Clark turns and gives a very awkward look, smile, and waves to Jason or to another reporter.

It's hard to describe, but it's a very funny moment and shows how good of an actor Routh is and Clark is as well. You'll know the scene when you see it.

Yeah, I agree with you. That scene was in one of the 11 clips from rottentomatoes a while back, and it perfectly captures the awkward side of Clark. I loved that scene...very funny and charming.

its true, routh as fake clark/kal-el clark/superman did seem to be lacking in dialogue...which kinda took away from the character having a point of view or opinion on things. it probably woulda helped if they didnt cut out all the kal-el clark scenes

"One problem is with the casting. Brandon Routh lacks charisma as Superman, and I suppose as Clark Kent, he isn't supposed to have any. Routh may have been cast because he looks a little like Reeve, but there are times when he looks more like an action figure; were effects used to make him seem built from synthetics?"

- Roger Ebert

Only one word describes this...

BRUTAL.

LOL thats exacly what his eyes say.:)

Actually, the only time it's pretty obvious he wears contacts it's that scene when lightning flashes behind him, namely the scene in my avatar.

Like " I'm wearing contacts"

LMAO! :D

you know what, after all is said and done about Superman supposed to be having blue eyes, given that Routh looks better in his natural browns, i wish they didnt have him use contacts in the movie :(. it looks totally unreal.

I just got home from seeing the film and I have to admit. He didn't talk as much as I thought he would. At times I felt like the movie was more about Lex and Lois than Superman.
