Bare with me, but if IF the Joker was to be recast then I would love to see Benicio Del Toro as the Joker. He's truly a cameleon.

While I won't doubt that Benicio Del Toro is a damn good actor, he doesn't have the look for the role. He'd look ill skinny if he actually tried to lose the weight for it. Especially at his age.

First off it would be hard to find an Actor who would actually want to take the mantle of trying to outdo Ledgers Joker

Second Heath Ledger's Joker was classic and no need to have someone else try

Goodfellas, I could find you a million actors, including A list ones that would kill to play that role. And yeah, its sad Heath's dead and all, but is it really any reason to deprive ourselves from seeing Batman's greatest foe on the big screen again?

Heath Ledger was the Joker no need to have some else play him at leats for a long time

no the joker is the joker, heath was heath. thats the point of roven's comments

Even aside from the whole Heath matter, I don't think that it would be a good idea to have the Joker again. Don't get me wrong, I loved TDK's Joker as much as anyone and more, but first, as a character, he gave everything he got in this movie and anything else with him will feel repetitive and second, if we assume that this potential new Joker will be as good as Heath's (which is the best case scenario, I think we agree), I don't really want another movie in which the Joker steals the spotlight from the other characters (ahem*Two-Face*ahem*Batman*ahem-ahem).
IMO - get new and fresh villains. Or use some of the ones in the old movies, by doing them real justice ala Two-Face. But leave the Joker in Arkham and that's it.

No problem with this, though it could be hard to sell.

Or it could spark mass interest.

Who knows?

No diss to you guys, but ur falling hook line and sinker to internet hype.

ROVEN did not say that Joker could return. He answered a ridiculous hypothetical question about taking the role away from Heath if he knew in advance that he would pass away.

*the blogger* who posted the article then speculated at what he thought Roven was saying. Which is ridiculous. They took the answer to one question and made it an answer to another.

Don't be so gullible for a page hit guys, come on.

I would be totally fine if they recast the Joker and he returns for the third installment. In '89, everyone was saying Nicholson IS the Joker. People will continue to say that about Heath. They'll say it for the next actor too.

Prison Mike, kickass name/avvy. i could watch that show all day everyday for the rest of my life.

Ledger's Joker was so unique, that I think a recast in the current series would be a big mistake. Even if Ledger had minimal creative input on the character's look and mannerisms (I don't know the story with that), they certainly are unique to his performance. To have someone show up, and essentially rip him off, just seems a little disrespectful. Plus, considering how revered Ledger's performance is, I think that the risk of potential fan backlash would be astronomical.

I don't have a problem with seeing the character played by a different actor, in a different series, since that will more than likely be an entirely different type of Joker than Ledger's was. But for someone other than Ledger to play the Ledger Joker? That'd be like taking Robert Englund out of the role of Freddy Krueger...er, nevermind.

It's not going to happen.

Look, will there be another Joker EVENTUALLY? Yes, of course. But not in the next film and I seriously doubt EVER in the Christopher Nolan series. Heath Ledger might win an Oscar for this role.. there's no way anyone can step into the SAME role in the SAME series in such a short period of time. It took them about 20 years for audiences to accept a new Joker after Jack Nicholson's performance. So, probably in 2028 with a new series of Batman films by a some new filmmakers will we see a new actor take on the role.

I just don't see the point of bringing him back for a second film, when there are plenty of other great rogues to be given justice.

*Cough* THE RIDDLER.

I can definitely see that being an issue.

That's where I see the point. I think that while none of us want someone to take Heath's spot...I think that if the talent was there and it was based off Heath's then we would think otherwise. As of right now, I think there are different villains to use and the Joker is not necessary.

Yeah, like Ledger was the second coming.

No one can outshine Ledger.

NO ONE!!!

the Joker recreates himself all the time in the comics, It's part of his insanity, so it prolly wouldn't matter if he was recast, even if no one can top Ledger.

I saw Rev Road, and no Shannon did NOT "scream Joker". Neither was he anywhere close the performance Heath gave. And like somebody else before me said, NOBODY would even take the role. Plus there's no reason to bring him back. Recasting would only come to one thing, dissapointment. Its SO idiotic. Also its dissrepsctful to Heath.

Agreed good sir.

Wait for the next franchise to have someone else be the Joker.

It wont happent anyway though

It would be a HUGE mistake to recast The Joker in a third Batman movie... obviously if it's a Christian Bale/Chris Nolan collaboration.

It would be pointless and unfair to ask an actor, any actor, no matter how good to imitate Ledger's Joker... It would become less about the acting and more about channeling Ledger's work.

Even if that given actor gave a completely fresh, powerful, different and exciting version of The Joker in a third Nolan Batman film... it would mess with the tone and continuity set up for the character in this franchise.

We will see The Joker again in live-action (perhaps soon)... but it won't be Ledger's Joker, and if it's not ledger then it's not Nolan.

Relax we will see the character again with a new director and a new actor... bringing with them a fresh vision, just like Nolan/Ledger did.
