I have read that Freeform (the network producing Cloak and Dagger, and now Squirrel Girl, New Warriors) is more teen-orientated, so it sounds like they are winding up for another splinter of the universe.
Film universe - the big hitters, fun for the whole family
Netflix - some popular characters, but generally more obscure. Grittier, more adult audience
Freeform - teen orientated, but obscure characters
I wouldn't expect much crossover between these sections, but I also wouldn't expect there to be none at all. The occasional visit from a character outside the splinter (like Sif or Nick Fury) and the occasional reference to something that happened in the films is all you need to make it all seem connected.
Only the littlest part of me bemoans the fact that we probably won't see anyone from Netlfix make their film debut...but then again, we don't know that for sure. Several actors in the Netflix splinter have stipulations for the films in their contracts. We're only sure it isn't happening now.
I guess, like someone said earlier, the fact is it doesn't hurt to keep them on Netflix when the format is serving them so well. What difference does it make how big the screen is?
For me, there are only a few I'd like to see ascend out of Netflix anyway, and there isn't any rush. Luke Cage would be a neat Avenger someday. It would be neat to see Daredevil and especially Kingpin in a Spider-Man film. But both of these could happen ten years from now and it would be just as satisfying.
