hahahahahahahaha....was this intentional or not? :o Reminds me of the who? Mike Jones thing.

Mike Jones was a rapper who repeated his name over and over.
Anyway, I found it funny when you said "what the heck is grim fandago?" because in the game "the curse of monkey island" the main character finds a man with a button that says ASK ME ABOUT GRIM FANDAGO to which he responds "what the heck is grim fandago?"
Anyway, grim fandago is a genius videogame that is perfectly suited for Burton's directorial approach. It's also a product of a pretty much dead genre of videogame, and if this movie is real and succeeds there could be more of them in the market place. We'll have to see what happens.

I love the genre of video game, whats the genre called? lol

Does Grim Fandango have anything to do with Skull Monkeys?

adventure gaming, it rocks. :o It died though when games like GTA took over the gaming marketplace.

Grim Fandango is the story of Manuel Calavera, a travel agent in the Land of the Dead, who deals with good and evil souls. However, when his competitor starts getting all the good souls, he begins to wonder what is going on. He ends up stumbling on a huge plot to destroy who gets into Heaven and Hell and ends up right smack into the middle of it.
Something like that. :marv:

That's an action game. It's quite different seeing as it's not story-centered and there's no inventories/puzzles.

Umm yes there are.

There are puzzle missions. Puzzles, and word riddles.

There is an inventory. You have to priortize what items and weapon you can carry around for you on each level.

I'm not familiar with it, so maybe I don't know. :o I still know the "traditional" PC adventure games are pretty much dead. But now you're making me want to buy the Devil May Cry games, which I've never played. :(

I just got done playing DMC 3. And there were puzzles to solve.

Sure there's puzzles but more than likely that's not the core of the game. Most of it tis prolly cutting up peeps, and in most adventure games you don't cut up peeps, let alone anything. I am intrigued though, damn you.

damn, I just messed up a perfectly good pair of pants thinking of it...

There's are secret missions and whole side missions based on puzzle and riddle solving.

Of course there's tons of action. I'd call it an action/adventure game.

I still want someone to explain what GRIM FANDANGO is though. No one is doing that.

God, I hope this happens. Grim Fandango was already extremely cinematic just in game form.... almost seemed more movie-like than game-like, at times.

I really hope they keep to the same visual style as the game, though --- it was a major part of what made the whole feel and tone so appealing.

eh... let Burton come on as a visual consultant.

he's pretty hit or miss as a director.

I actually think he's a hit with all his movies.

I'm a little unsure about the idea of Burton as a director for this, but not because I don't think he's always been talented --- its just I tend to prefer him when he's working on his own individual properties instead of adapting prior material.

With things like Batman, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, etc.... something just felt like Burton had written himself into the source material and this made it seem just.... off, a result. I'd mention Planet of the Apes, but that always seemed like a studio film to me more than a Burton one. Grim Fandango is already layered thick with its own unique style, and while obviously, changes in the story progression would be needed for an adaption, I'd be worried Burton might lose that atmosphere of the game and put too much of his own style into it.

But you know, meh, who am I kidding.... whether the director was Tim Burton or not, if a Grim Fandango flick came out I sure as hell know I'd still be the first person in line, opening day. :o ;)

Can someone please just give us the main info for what Grim Fandango is?

I was the one who suggested Burton direct.

BUT, i also suggested for the movie to be in stop motion animation, like "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and "Corpse Bride".
