LA Weekly's 7-page profile on Brett Ratner is really interesting. I think they oversell the possibility that Ratner might actually be a director worth taking seriously... and yet he also says some things that indeed make me take him more seriously than I ever would have before. He shows that he knows how to shoot action and comedy by talking about how you do it, and being precisely right in what he says. If you have some time to kill, you could do a lot worse than reading this.

I've never understood the hatred thrown towards Ratner in recent years. I just don't know how he got this reputation for being such a horrible director.

X3.
The sad thing is that the film isn't even as bad as it's made out to be.
It was bad, but people on here make it out to be at Catwoman or Supergirl levels, which is stupid.

I don't see Rob Cohen get all of this hate...

^Brett gets most of it because he is pompous. Watch the X3 commentary on the deleted scens and the movie...I just wanted to beat his face in. Plus his little comment on withholding deleted scenes from the U.S. so that they could double dip...list goes on. But I do like the Rush Hour films. I just hate now how the commercials say "A Brett Ratner Film" like he is within the likes of Spielberg or Scorsese.

Yeah, but Fox is notorious for double dipping anyway, especially on high profile films they known they should have better DVD releases for them for day one (I,Robot, Man on Fire, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, the first X-Men, etc.).

Yeah, it definitely wasn't bad, just disappointing given how great X2 was. I still enjoy X3 on a moment-by-moment basis. Especially the arrival of the X-Man on Alcatraz Island, as it feels very much like a comic book moment, moreso than a lot of the stuff Singer did(although nothing beats the Blackbird taking off in the first film).

Yeah, like I said in May 2006, X3 was definitely not as good as the predecessors, but it was definitely enjoyable.

It all comes from X3 which really isnt as bad as people ahve made it out to be. Though from what I understand by the time he came in to do X3 everything else were already in place. He had to work with what he was given.

They're just pissed because he can sit around for 6 years and then command an A-list asking price. They don't think he's worth it. But New Line does.

I get Tucker asking for that money because essentially he's a big part of the draw for the movie. He and Jackie Chan. People who loved Tucker in the first two are going to pay to see him in the third.
Personally I have loved Chris Tucker since he did Friday with Ice Cube which is a hilarious movie.

I know but him admitting it to the fans pissed me off. Hell, only 11 of the deleted scenes were suppose to be in America but luckily they had the dvd fiasco and both went out. It wasn't horrible no...I did enjoy it but I was very dissapointed. It was more comicy I will give it that but it was doomed from the start.

I never understood why he cut some of those scene in the first place. I honestly like X3, I wish it had been longer though.

I think X3 is pretty bad... but entirely from a script and occasionally casting standpoint. I don't have any issues with Ratner's direction or the acting in it.

Singer and crew should've done X3.
Say all you want about them with Superman Returns, but it doesn't change the fact that X3, more than likely, would've been a quality film.

I know he said he make the movie less then two hours because he cant stand movies that drag along. Now that shows in his directing of X3. That was the only thing he said that made me a bit mad because honsetly to tell a real good story you need at least two hours.

What casting in X3 bothered you?

I think that if Singer and Ratner had done X3 together it would have been great. Ratner knows his action and Singer and Co. knows how to write an involving story.

What casting in X3 bothered you?

Wasn't happy with some of the minor characters who were supposed to be famous X-Men characters yet looked/acted nothing like them. Particularly those who joined the Brotherhood like Calisto, Psylocke, Quill/Kid Omega/whoever... weird choices to have them in the film, and the casting picks for them didn't help those decisions much.

Also wasn't pleased with Ellen Page as Kitty. She didn't do nearly enough in the film to justify her presence. It could've easily been one of the other two actresses who already played the part instead - and indeed should've been. I don't care how minor the parts were in the first movies, both actresses had enough acting pedigree by the time of X3 to be capable of handling what the script called for. It was just recasting for the sake of recasting, never a good thing.

I cannot wait to see Rush Hour 3 tomorrow! It does comout tom. right? LOL I suck at these things.

After The Sunset and Red Dragon. Terrible movies he made.

It's actually getting a midnight showing tonight. They're serious about this making some massive bank.

I liked Page as Kitty. I think of the three actresses who have played her, Ellen had an actual look that reminded me of Kitty from the comics. The other girls looked way to different.

I thought Sumela Kay looked the most like Kitty in the first movie. Since then she's grown up to look not much like her, but maybe they could've faked it. The one who looked least like Kitty, though, had to be that chick in the second one. Her name escapes me now.

Red Dragon actually turned out to be my favorite of the Lecter films, and very faithful to its source. With a cast like that, though, it'd be hard for it NOT to rock. Edward Norton is one of our best actors right now.

When did Kitty ever sport a redheaded bob cut?

Kitty's hair is quite often drawn as a reddish-brown auburn shade, such as here or in many panels of Astonishing X-Men (like here) or "Shadow & Flame" as seen in this statue based on the Shadow & Flame art. Sometimes it's noticably more heavy on red than on brown. These images also give you some taste of just a few of her many, many hairstyles. Long, short, curled at the end, ponytailed, "Rachel" cut, hanging and wavy, tousled... she's done damn near all of it. Her hair changes even more frequently than her costume. It wasn't just Kay who had the auburn style hair... the second girl's single press photo for X2 makes it look even redder.

Meh, so long as she wasn't a shiksa it's all good. Shalom.

i think the "Yu/You-Mi/ME" scene in the trailers was DUBBED...in RATNERESE!

Here's the translation:

Carter: YOU!

Old Man: Yes?

C: What's Ur name?

OM: I am Bret Ratner.

C: R U Deaf?!

OM: No, i'm a dumbass.

(Carter turns 2 other guy nearby)

C: WHAT ABOUT YOU?!

Dude: Yes?

C: What's UR name?!

D: I am Uwe Boll.

OM: Kiss me, 4 i am gay.

C: That's IT!! I'm about 2 kick ur---

(cuts 2 Lee and some other dude looking at Carter stupidly)

Lee: (2 Dude #2): U know i had a cartoon made of me, once....
