Ryan Reynolds is the Green Lantern

:funny: I actually enjoy Begins more. TDK is better technically, but for me, Begins is just more fun and holds up better with repeat viewing.

I wasn't proven wrong. Again the only decent DC movies are Batman 89, Returns, maybe Forever, Begins, TDK and Superman 1.

You know who is wrong? Someone who says Superman Returns is good and X2 isn't. That's like saying Steven Speilberg is a hack. That's how utterly wrong it is.

But that's cool it's opinion. But the point of this debate was this. DC obviously don't have confidence in their main stream characters apart from Batman and now Green Lantern. With what happened to Superman Returns ie it sucking they are gonna be even more apprehensive now.

You are wrong. So is everyone else who uses the "mainstream" excuse. It's like saying 2 + 2 isnt 4 just because there isnt a 5 thrown in there. Your argument is devoid of sense. "V For Vendetta" is a DC movie. Why? BECAUSE ITS BASED ON A BOOK PUBLISHED BY DC COMICS! So, dont tell people it "Dosent count" just because you're mad there's no Flash movie. And the only reason you used that excuse is because you were proved wrong when you said they were barely any good DC movies. If you meant DCU characters, you would've and should've said so from the start. Not to mention you incorrectly discarded Jonah as non DCU, when anyone who knows the character knows that he is a DCU character.

Maybe saying they don't count was wrong.

But again I was originally talking about mainstream DCU characters. Sorry if I didn't add the "U" on the end...

And yea I made a mistake with Hex. But anyway I'm really looking forward to that.

But the FACT is, DC don't seem to have confidence in any of their mainstream characters apart from Batman and now Green Lantern.

And I'm not pissed off about it, I'm a strong supporter of lesser known but still great characters like Hex and Lobo getting their shots at the big screen.

But you see Marvel doing Spidey movies, X-Men movies, Daredevil movies, Iron Man movies, ****, even frickin Blade movies.

But DC are just like "Meh, we'll stick to Batman thanks"

Oh totally ace i hate that wb/dc just cant seem to get the mainstream guys going and think going with lesser known properties are better priority incase they flop or what not. That is what i like about marvel/marvel studios films they are willing to give any character a shot. Sure we have had some stinkers/flops but then we also had many good films too. They try where wb still sits and sits on things and some guys are probably never going to get the movie/tv treatment.

Marvel can sell their properties to other studios. DC doesn't have that option.

Other than Blade 1 & 2, X-Men 1 & 2 and Iron Man, Marvel based movies are crap anyway. :oldrazz:

I see what you're saying.

I really think that Superman Returns took the momentum off with WB, as they were developing Wonder Woman and The Flash right after Batman Begins.

With Superman Returns, they gave Singer total freedom (just like what they did with Nolan) and it had mixed results. Then I think they just didn't know what to do with their DC properties.

But I think two things changed that: Dark Knight and the WB/DC summit last year. Plus, with the formation of DC Entertainment, they're going in the right direction.

But yeah, until we the DC 75th Anniversary summit next year, they look like sitting ducks.

It's just a matter of time... GL will get the ball rolling on Flash and maybe WW; by then Batman 3 should be shooting. Hopefully by that time they'll be ready for Superman, and will give him to a serious and competent director like they did with Batman.

i dont mean to come in on the tail end of this, but wat you're sayin isnt. DC has several other movies that'll be comin pretty soon. geoff johns wrote movies for flash and captain marvel, jonah hex has already been said, and then somebody else is workin on a script for aquaman ( that's just a rumor though), but lets not forget that the watchmen just blew out the box office last year.

you cant say dc is only makin batman movies because dc has been makin movies way longer than marvel and marvel basically just got started a little while ago. dc has been makin movies since the late 50's

Well Marvel has pretty much bum rushed the market and has plenty of missteps. Steps I like to think DC are trying not to make, although they are going to make them anyway, and have. The Hex director situation is shady but thats what they get for hiring a guy from animation I suppose. But everything thing else they have planned at this point sounds great

Marvel didn't "do" all those movies. Most of them were done by studios who bought the movie rights for the Marvel characters, when the House of ideas didn't have a movie branch.
DC has been part of Warner for years, a studio that produces only like a 12 movies every year. And they can't be all superhero movies.
And come on, we'll see like 7 superhero movies in 2011. I think they're becoming a bit too many.

Yes, that is true, but Marvel did put their name on those pictures and provided the souce material for them as well. We can deny that.

Um... I'm on your side. "Good" DC movies were thrown on the table then he was like, "Oh... well those don't count!" He was adding conditions to the argument.

Saying they had to be "Well Known" or "Main Continuity" these things were not initially stated in his argument and he only added them after the fact when he was being proven wrong.

Oh, I'm sorry, I should have asked who you were talking too. My fault.

It's not about being proven wrong or right, it's about you opinions and argument.

As I said before, I wan't counting the older films. Only films released after 2004.

I never said X2 wasn't good. It is GOOD, that's the problem. The films I listed are GREAT! As a whole I don't really have too many problems with the films I listed. The X-Men films on the other hand I can pick apart for days. If you're a fan of the X-Men comics it's beyond me why you think they are so great.

You don't know that DC doesn't have confidence in their main stream characters. What is clear is that thye want quality over quantity, which I for one love.

And just so we're clear on Superman Returns here, the reason it didn't do well is Bryan Singer.

He directs two X-Men films, which took so much away from the source material that only the masses could love them, and for some reason he's a god among men. Then, he directs one Superman film, sticks WAY TOO CLOSE to Donnes take on the character, and some how it's all DC Comics fault. No, I'm sorry Bryan Singer didn't push the envelope with X-Men and he overnighted it with Superman Returns.

You're right...however, judging by the quality of the films Marvel has had in it's second and third tier characters...I'd almost rather they had held off with some of them. I mean...do we really want DC to rush ahead and start making movies that are Fantastic Four, Ghostrider, or Daredevil quality? Marvel has certainly saturated the market, but unfortunately for every Spider-man 2 it seems they have two films like DD or Fantastic Four.

And to be fair, Marvel was flinging out rights to their characters like candy because they were floundering financially in the 90's. WB wasn't that bad off.

However Alex,

You're listing deviance from the source material as a detriment to the actual movies, but if that's really the case, then you should have just as much a problem with V for Vendetta as the X-men movies. Heck, Batman Begins took quite a few liberties with the source material.

However, there's a difference between being accurate and being a good movie. Blade was a pretty good movie in my opinion. Was it accurate to it's source material? Not a chance, and I'm glad it wasn't. The original Blade was a crappy character. I can understand why you wouldn't like a movie like X2 because of the changes it makes. Spider-man 2 is a very good movie. It's very well made, great action, good plot...and I could recognize that. However, it's still not one of my favorite movies because of the liberties it took with the source material. However, I still can see that it's a good movie. Same with X2.

And what is wrong with Daredevil? Apart from the playground scene? Daredevil is a very underrated movie that is pretty much SPOT ON to the source material in essence. In fact the olnly complaints I've see of that film apart from that cheesy playground scene are... "Affleck is a *****e!" or " Farrell is a *****e!" or "Kingpin isn't black!"

You wanna talk crap comic book movies? Let's talk Superman 3 and 4. Or Catwoman. Or Constantine. Or Batman and Robin. THOSE are crap comic book movies.

I should have explained this better. With the X-Men movies it's more about the characters and their powers. Rogue is the best example, Singer changed so many things because he was afraid to push the envelope. I don't mind if you change the stories around a bit, but when you change the characters you're no longer making an X-Men film.

And what is wrong with Daredevil? Apart from the playground scene? Daredevil is a very underrated movie that is pretty much SPOT ON to the source material in essence. Daredevil is not that bad, but it's not that good either. See, you're doing it again. You're losing the battle so you revert back to the old films. Why do you keep doing that? If you really want to talk about OLD comics book films let's talk about the Spiderman films from the 70's, or how about Captain America and FF4 from the 80's? Those files of crap are WAY worse then ANYTHING DC has EVER put out.

Please, if you going to compare DC and Marvel films still to the present. And if we are going to keep this going we should start a new thread: http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?t=332653

Yes, thank you.

Let's not throw wolverine or ghost rider in it, and only the second fantastic four was crap.

Yup we should take the other talk to that thread there, and get back to the topic of ryan as hal. I so cant wait to see how he pulls of the character. I am sure he will do well.
