Ryan Reynolds is the Green Lantern

As long as RR doesnt turn on the "Ryan Reynolds" switch he should be fine. You know what I mean... when he gives that dumb smirk and says something he JUST knows is funny (but isnt really). That's the only thing I dislike about him as an actor.

If he keeps it serious overall with some underplayed sarcasm or funny lines, he'll do ok.

i am sure they will keep the film serious with some humor tones mixed in there. campbell is a good director and i am sure he will balance things out well.

Not sure about Reynolds. I personally think he should be half decent as Lantern, but the studios have been shoving this guy down the general public's throat for years now and he hasn't really caught on.

Different folks, different strokes... I've been a fan of him since Two Guys and a Girl...

yea i have no hate for reynolds my self either. love his comedy work, and seen some of his dramatic roles. So i think he will be able to do well for hal.

Ugh, the lack of knowledge of Reynolds more serious work around here is frustrating.

Please note: i'm not going on a tangent on you.

I don't understand geeks/nerds/fanboys interpetation of Ryan Reynolds' humor; sometimes I think fanboys have the worse sense of humor. It's the one thing that they will 'get'. I know I'm painting in broad strokes here.

He's a funny and talented guy, but he hasn't been used properly in film. Yeah, he found success with the rom coms, but so did the young Tom Hanks in the 80s. Do you see him a comedic actor now?

(Not to say that Hanks' stuff didn't work in the 80s; it's more like how we view him as an actor now, not just a comedic actor. I like Splash and Big)

Fanboys have a memory of a goldfish. If Ryan keeps on turning in a better variety of quality roles, people will forget all about it.

Who remembers George Clooney as a TV actor, or Kurt Russell as a child star? It's stuff like that. Or Leonard DeCaprio and Johnny Depp as teenie bobbers (both TV stars). It just takes time.

Yeah, Reynolds can be funny even on the outtakes:

But when he wants to be serious:

Have you watched some of his real work?

I thought he was great in The Nines. I didn't give a s**t about him till I watched The Nines. Also I think that he is funny. I just disagree with the preception of him and other's opinion of his talent level. It's no big deal but it is frustating when people (not you) act like he hasn't played in anything but lame comedies.

I think one can only truely judge him after watching his serious performances.

He's a great serious actor. he can do both fine. That talent will bring something fresh to Hal Jordon. Iinstead of being the stoic protagonist or any comic bookey looking guy he can add something fresh llike what RDJ did. Not the same, but in terms of doing something new and interesting. Something you can't wait to see again.

totally i have no fear that ryan will do well. He i am sure will balance out drama and any humor.

if you really look at every casting choice, they're all quite good. rr makes the most sense. he's a good actor who can balance cockiness and drama. hal jordan started out as this arrogant jerk and evolved into a hero. reynolds can definitely do that without being van wilder. i mean people thought heath ledger would suck as the joker, and he blew everyone away. christian bale was in newsies, now he's considered one of the best actors of his generation. plus, he looks like the green lantern from superman tas(yes it was kyle, but he looked just like hal).

I'm tell you you all that Ryan Reynolds is probably more of "Tom Hanks" when it comes to his career: a lot of comedies then stepping into genres later down the road.

Yeah, Showtime, I thought mods were supposed to be clever and educated about these things?

If all you need to be a mod is to be able to be make a judgement based on your own personal preference without paying any attention to the evidence that's out tiere, then I fully expect to wake up tomorrow morning with with most of usernames in red font!

When 'Two Guys, A Girl and A Pizza Place' was on I was obsessed with X-Men. I wanted Ryan to be Iceman. :woot:

I don't know what everyone seems to have against comedies. Comedic actors have proven time and again that they can step into drama with ease and kick total butt while doing it. They all have to do drama at some point to "prove they can act". The reason being that we don't respect comedy like we should. Naturally, everyone is surprised the comedic actor is so good. (Everyone except me)

Now...when you try to make a list of dramatic actors who have successfully done comedy it's a much shorter list. They usually end up admitting that comedy is much harder to do.

Reynolds will be able to do anything the film needs. If it fails for some reason...that reason won't be him.

Yeah, I mean Tom Hanks went from playing a 13 year old boy stuck in an adult's body to playing a freaking captain in Saving Private Ryan.

He's young, the Proposal is probably his first lead role in a successful movie.
Green Lantern will probably make him a star. But he's good in the Nines and he's a funny and handsome guy.

I have to agree with Anto on this one. The proposal was basically a box office hit and the studios are looking at him as an up and coming bankable star. He falls in the same bucket as B-List stars like Chris Pine, and Bradley Cooper.
