Sequels Sam Raimi talks Spider-Man 4

it can't be taking this long to write the script.
I actually thought it was done months ago. we even heard rumors about it.

Sony may as well let Vanderbilt direct the project... or at least that what it sounds like.

A director and writer should always work closely. (Especially a director who is embarking on his 4th movie in the same franchise). Sam Raimi may as well have posted that on this message board as a fan, considering how unsure he was.

This is how that sounds to me...

Raimi became a rabid, stray dog that Sony has now got on a very VERY tight leash.

Directors direct and writers write.

When the scripts are done Raimi and Vanderbilt will work together, trimming and adding things they think should be trimmed or added.

Raimi did a poor job of handling SM3, even though he shouldn't have been asked to make those changes, he could have done a lot better. It's best someone else writes it for him and allows him to do what he does best.

I still believe in Raimi, but I can't be entirely sure about that statement until I see a 3.1, if they ever release it.

Well I doubt the change would be big enough for all his mistakes to be corrected.

Maybe Sony rejected James Vanderbilt's script because it was too adult-oriented. Perhaps they didn't like it because it didn't contain children's dialogue with words like "wicked," "itsy bitsy spider went up the waterspout" or "go Spidey go". :hehe:

I'm not particularly enthralled by the fact that the story will span both films, this rarely works in movies (POTC and Matrix sequels being prime examples). Can Lizard really carry two movies as the main villain?

The symbiote story would have been much better served over two films. These are gonna have to be very good to erase SM3 from my memory, I'm not getting my hopes up....

Yes, but, that was just a coincidence. I mean, really, who says it's going to happen with these films? :yay:

I seriously doubt the Lizard will span over two films as the main villain. It appear to me, they will introduce new villain(s) while setting up the experiments & transformation in the 4th for Lizard in the 5th film.

kraven and lizard would be cool to spread the 2 films

but i think we need a new direction for next 2 films we cant have the same ending of previous 3

peter fights villain in hard fought battle beats them and saves mj who is the damsel in distress needs some new formula cause it has already gotten old

He is playing coy about the villain. It seems pretty obvious Lizard is going to be one of the two villains and the story is going to be big again and they are waiting for approval to do two movies.

The only thing that seems up in the air is MJ. If Dunst really wants to do it, I cannot imagine why they'd cut the character out unless their is a salary problem, which I don't think has been discussed.

But I say if we're doing SM4/5, then bring MJ in and build to marriage.

As for the whole "we need a new direction, grow some balls," etc. replies: :whatever:

Move on. The backlash is ridiculous.

I agree DACrowe, but for different reasons. I agree that he is being coy about the villain(s). However, I sense he immediately tried to cover his slip of the tongue when he said, “I don’t know if it will be this one or not." It just seems to me, he should have been quoted as, "I don't know if it will be this one... or not." I'm obviously reading more into it, but this is how it appears to me; him covering the facts with "... or not" after realizing the slip.

Agreed, especially if the films can be considered 1 whole big movie. Am I wrong, or is this film going to be mashed togeather with S-M4. I was never too sure if that was true or not when it comes to filming films back to back.

I wouldn't be surprised if the script was done a long time ago & they're just deliberately keeping us out of the loop.

I'm just saying I wouldn't rule it out. It's not like we haven't gotten red herrings before.

I wouldn't go that far, but I'm convinced that Raimi knows who the villain is and is simply being coy.

Didn't he kind of do that last time. People tried & tried to get him to admit that Venom was gonna be in the movie & he said nothing. And for that matter, how long was it before they officially confirmed Sandman?

THC was casted early on in 2005 (March-ish i IIRC?) and he was confirmed in November of that year.

He was cast in March 2005, and was "confirmed" to be playing Sandman in November 2005. But everyone pretty much knew he was Sandman since right around when he was cast.

My point exactly. I think they enjoy the speculation. I remember when people thought Topher would be playing Electro.
