Iron Man 2 Scarlett Johansson is the Black Widow

Yeah, that's basically the same accent this chick that was from Romania that used to work with me in the pc lab had. It shouldn't be indecipherable, because obviously she's been speaking the king's english for years, but most people never really lose the accent.

Yea I'm just picky about accents i guess...
I hear a huuuuge difference between a russian who learned to speak english really well, and a plain sounding American throwing on a russian accent.
Cuz it should have to have those little bits of british, american, russian, and whatever the hell other accents shes adopted over the years

but anyway, the accents fairly minor, all in all, I just think she was poor casting for many reasons...

I expect the accent to be softer and not a heavy one.

I hope people don't nitpick about it. But this is the internet, so yes that will happen.

Can't wait to see set pics of her. Well, it depends where they're filming though.

I'm still not completely on board with her, but I'll give her a chance to win me over.

Yup, that's where the hype and speculation really begins.

The wait for TDK was like water torture.

Let me see if I can find the thread/post where I said that..

I'm somewhat annoyed by the way people here are micro-managing and nitpicking about Scarlett Johannson's body in this movie.

The reason it annoys and sickens me is that it sort of justifies the lunatic and ******ed way the media and Hollywood treats body types.

Scarlett Johannson is a gorgeous beautiful woman. She's a solid actress and performer. She says she's training for the role.

Have we been let down by female casting in these roles before? Yes. Halle Berry in X-men. Jennifer Garner in Daredevil and Elektra. I'm not saying Scarlett is a slam dunk as Black Widow, but its not such a bad choice, and it sounds like they are doing their best to make her look the part.

Height's not that big of a deal. Hollywood's coped with Tom Cruise being shorter than most of his leading ladies for years. Height looks different on a movie screen.

My main concern is that Scarlett is coming off of the Spirit and you know, I was really disappointed with that. She looked great in all the cosplay, but damn. I hope she has a better performance here.

We're micromanaging since the role needs a certain physical type to accurately portray BW. She is playing an action role which has higher burdens for every actor to play such things to be convincing. Her usual body type is not going to cut it since she looks like a super-model, not a spy who breaks necks in her sleep. This can be fixed, though. Hopefully she's gotten trained enough for the role. What worries me isnt her body type. It's her acting. I'm skeptical she's ready for this role at this stage in her career.

Hollywood and the media do have negative impacts on society. I agree with you there. But there is more to it then that with this role.

She's a solid dramatic actress. She's got nothing on action stars like Garner, Thurman, Jolie or Jolovich.

Sometimes a person's best isn't good enough. It happens. Maybe she is enough, maybe she isn't. We'll only know once the movie is released. Johanssen has an up-hill battle to convince people. It won't be easy to accomplish. She hasn't much leeway to fail. If her role is toned down because she can't do certain things BW fans will not be pleased.

True.

My main concern is that Scarlett is coming off of the Spirit and you know, I was really disappointed with that. She looked great in all the cosplay, but damn. I hope she has a better performance here.
Agreed.

Black Widow's been drawn differently and looked different in the past. She doesn't look the same now as when she first appeared. Its all about artist interpretation.

Wolverine was always supposed to be 5'3", and he's cast by a big tall six footer, hardly a shorter scrapper.

Hollywood and the media do have negative impacts on society. I agree with you there. But there is more to it then that with this role.

OK, but people are throwing a fit about the 15 pounds thing or all this other weird misinformation out there.

She's a solid dramatic actress. She's got nothing on action stars like Garner, Thurman, Jolie or Jolovich.

Garner? An action star? Well let's see. There was that TV series that went down the toilet. There was Daredevil which begat ELEKTRA which was a failure. Garner was a total failure as Elektra, and talk about MISCAST. Umm she didn't embody Elektra Natchios at all, nor did she look like a dark, exotic GREEK woman.

Thurman, she's got Kill Bill and what else? Paycheck, Batman and Robin, and My Superhero Ex Girlfriend POS's with action in them.

I think Jovovich is a great performer, but her action movies are absolute ****.

Also, going by the comics, Jovovich doesn't have the body type for this role either. Jovovich doesn't have the curves or boobs for the role. So there's the micromanaging for you.

My problem is more the way people are talking about her body and objectifying her. The only thing missing is people calling her fat because we can't see her ribs.

Are you guys really surprised that the actor chosen to play a character doesn't fit. They do this all the time with comic book movies. Plus every time they do this everybody doubts they'll do it right, but what happens. The movie comes out and it turns out they do a hell of a job. Just quit you B****ing.

True, but she's always drawn as a serious action hero. Johanssen doesn't have that look physically IMO.

Wolverine was always supposed to be 5'3", and he's cast by a big tall six footer, hardly a shorter scrapper.

Wolverine looks like a bad ass in either form, doesn't he?

OK, but people are throwing a fit about the 15 pounds thing or all this other weird misinformation out there.

True.

Garner? An action star? Well let's see. There was that TV series that went down the toilet.
Alias was a hit tv show which lasted 5 seasons. Garner was very good in that as an action star IMO.

There was Daredevil which begat ELEKTRA which was a failure. Garner was a total failure as Elektra,

You're equating move quality and finanical sucess with being a good action heroine. That's not what we're discussing here. Just Garner's performances as an action hero. Garner was decent in Daredevil, but she excelled in Elektra in this. What hurt was the material she had to work with.

and talk about MISCAST.
I disagree.

Umm she didn't embody Elektra Natchios at all, nor did she look like a dark, exotic GREEK woman.

I'm not talking about if she looked exactly like Elektra I'm talking about she looked like a genuine action heroine. She delivered.

Thurman, she's got Kill Bill and what else? Paycheck, Batman and Robin, and My Superhero Ex Girlfriend POS's with action in them.
Kill Bill isn't enough? :whatever:

I think Jovovich is a great performer, but her action movies are absolute ****.

Her movies quality are irrelevant. We're just discussing the actresses in action roles. You didn't like The Messenger or Fifth Element?

Also, going by the comics, Jovovich doesn't have the body type for this role either. Jovovich doesn't have the curves or boobs for the role. So there's the micromanaging for you.
Neither are physically perfect for BW. Milla is much closer in talent as an action hero then Scarett ever was. Milla isn't totally wrong, though.
She's actually European, incredibly beautiful (though it's not a deal breather since they can always use wigs and hair dye) and in action heroine shape.

My problem is more the way people are talking about her body and objectifying her. The only thing missing is people calling her fat because we can't see her ribs.
That's unavoidable in Hollywood.

Hollywood does screw up, you know. Halle Berry as Catwoman, Jessica Alba as Sue Storm, Ben Affleck as Daredevil, Schwartzneggar as Mr. Freeze.

Garner didn't work as Elektra. And the movie and her kung fu looked terrible. So I highly disagree with you there. She was a failure as Elektra. Just a base, surface interpretation. You can talk about financial success or whatever, but the movie still bombed. Both movies did pretty terribly with critics. And Garner MADE HER OCD! Are you freaking kidding me. Elektra's OCD now, gimme a break. Garner brought nothing to the character but playing a Syndney Bristow knockoff character.

Alias was on for five seasons, but it the show blew its load halfway into season 2. It limped on and on after that as well as ticking off the core fanbase immensely.

That's unavoidable in Hollywood.

This forum isn't Hollywood. I'd expect some of you to be better than that.

Well there's nothing you can do about it. What's the point of going online and ranting forever,

I would say women are a little harder to get in CBM. Sometimes it could be just for eye candy or acting, but we don't really know yet unless like Rachel we know how she is.

Someone like the Black Widow could easily become nothing but eye candy. I'm sure she will of course, but I want a great poerformance to boot. I'm confident Jon can do this.

I hope BW is more than just eye candy. She needs to be dynamic enough to make people think this character deserves her own movie. That's the type of performance Scarlett needs to deliver.

Im a fan of scarlets but i agree that she doesnt come to mind when i think Black Widow but i bet as soon as we see some pics we will all shut up. I mean they dont even have to give her red hair as long as it has red high lights like in SM web of shadows. I mean all she needs are the few trade mark details and there you go. Much better then Tobey for spider man, i love him in those movies but in my mind he isnt peter parker. Playing a character and Becoming the character are two differnt things. Ron Pearlman is Hellboy, Downey is Stark, Christopher Reeve is Superman, but Tobey isnt Spider-Man and Jennifer Garner isnt Elektra. They both play the characters but they ae'nt them

This is the role that will make Scarlett a true star...

She's a B/B+ actress...

I think that Scarlet will be average, at best, in this role but I'm going to give her a chance. And my criticism of her has nothing to do with her weight or looks because she is a healthy looking beautiful girl.
