Scarlett/Snake-Eyes/Ripcord love triangle?

good stuff. i would love him to let her take his mask off too.
I developed an Plot Outline for a G.I. Joe movie last month that actually featured this. Snake Eyes stops fighting Storm Shadow during a showdown at the Cobra base to save Scarlett. Later on, in the Pit locker room, Scarlett confronts him about it. One things leds to another, and Snake Eyes allows Scarlett to take off his mask. We see Snake Eyes scarred face (He's mute and disfigured in my Script), but she looks beyond that and kisses him.

Corny, I know, but I like it.

i like it too

Who cares? It delved into the flashback of him and SS, he killed his master, now Snake out of respect and honor for his master take a vow of silence. That's cool.

It's cool. But I got to admit the comics version was kick-ass as well.

Too bad we didn't get Stalker in this film. An African American character that didn't need racial make-overs, AND he is one of the original Joe's.

I was thinking that too. I remember as a kid when they revamp'd Stalker to be some Artic Fighter dude and I was like don't they already have Iceburg. They could've just revamp'd his storyline again for the movie and said he had a pilot background. Oh well.

The vow of silence crap can be changed, too. It could be just a ruse, maybe he really did get hurt for Scarlett as it was depicted in the comics. Because I really do notwanna see Ripcord & Scarlett being romantic at all. She gave him a good luck kiss, nothing more. Snake Eyes & Scarlett together seems much more challenging & intriguing. But we're talking about modern Hollywood, who's just made a movie like GI Joe , not to mention endless remakes.

So Ripcord & Scarlett it is, I guess.:whatever:

I agree on the kiss. It did look more like a peck, if anything.

I just hope we get more Snake Eyes development.

I don't care if Snake Eyes is not physically mute in this version. If anything, being able to keep quite willingly shows just how bad ass he is.

Being mute and disfigured adds a lot to the character. I hope it happens in the sequel.

Its cooler that he couldn't talk because he wasn't physically able to. When he pretty much lost EVERYTHING in service of his country but he still fights.

So I just watched this for the second time and upon further review, there are many Snake Eyes and Scarlett moments. Examples: when they are first getting briefed after the convoy attack, Scarlett is wrapped around Snake Eyes. Then, there are more subtle moments of them being in love when they are on the jet, escaping the underwater base, and other parts in the movie. I would love to see this relationship fleshed out more. Also Scarletts kiss on Ripcord was not an I love You kiss, it was a be safe/good luck kiss. So a love triangle is really unnecessary.

did i miss something but did Snake eyes and Storm shadow rivalry come down to FOOD?

it is quite funny when you think about it ninjas got to eat i guess

Why not just have a flashback to when he pulled her from the chopper which blew up in his face severed his vocal chords (No stupid vow of silence bs) and disfugured him. Nothing bonds people together more than a shared tragedy. She knows and understands SE deeply. I guess thats just too boring hunh? Scarlet giving Ripcord a smack on the ass as he left for the mission might have played better for some folks.

In this movie, yeah it did. I mean who'd be interested in 2 former combat buddies who came back to the "world' and after 1 loses everything and everyone he loves tragically the other asks his masters to adopt him into his family/Clan to help him get over his loss. That's just too stupid to work on screen. Food is a much better catalyst, not those silly emotion things like jealousy and envy.

Ugh...Might seem awkward when you have a mute character involved like that...

You ever see the romance/drama movie called CHILDREN OF A LESSER GOD? While the love story in that movie didn't involve a love triangle (as far as I remember), it did involve a guy falling in love with a deaf mute woman. IIRC, the movie even won an Oscar. It's a damn shame that the writers and directors of both G.I. JOE RESOLUTE and G.I. JOE:THE RISE OF COBRA are not creative enough to depict a love story between a woman who can talk and a masked mute man.

Except in this version its a vow of silence.

In a video interview posted on CBR, Sommers said that in the movie (like in the edarly comics before Snake Eye's origin was revealed) why Snake Eye's doesn't talk is still a mystery (yeah I know Storm Shadow said that Snake took a vow of silence after their master was killed) and that things might not really be what we see (or hear).

I watched the movie and I didn't really got a romance vibe from Scarlett and Ripcord. Until the Paris Chase, I did, but after that, it just seemed more like a friendship. And yes, her and Snake-Eyes had some close moments. Interesting.

A love triangle is very possible. And with Snake Eyes having essentially avenged his master's death, maybe it'll be Scarlett's turn to loosen him up in a sequel. We'll see. I have a hard time believing these writers are unaware of the Snake Eyes/Scarlett relationship. I would imagine the reason she had something with Ripcord is threefold: One, Snake Eyes is not only mute, but he already had a sizeable portion of the story. Two, Ripcord would just BE there without that angle, as, in some sense, would Scarlett. I'd be all for hearing how people would have made it work, as I'm sure it could have.

I have to wonder if they didn't feel that the name Stalker would have negative connotations. And picked another character. Why Ripcord, I have no idea. Perhaps he was just bland and colorless (pun intended) enough that they hoped the change wouldn't engender any fan outrage, if they even cared about fan outrage.

I think the Ripcord-Scarlett relationship works better within the context of the film than Snake Eyes-Scarlett. But some of the stuff I read before the movie premiered talked about a triangle so if there is a sequel, I would expect them moving in that direction. I think Ripcord being able to verbablly interact with Scarlett gives him an edge, in terms of the movie. With Snake Eyes mask, you can't even read his expressions and everything will have to be done through body language. It would be interesting to see if Ray Park can pull that off.

GI Joe doesn't seem like a movie, and perhaps a series, that will try all that hard. However, I don't see Rip and Scarlett having a steamy relationship if they get together. I think it'll be chaste with a lot left offscreen.

Similar to what I said in the other Scarlett post, I think Rip showed far more interest in Scarlett whereas Snake came off as the friend-type, and as of the first film I can see Scarlett leaning more in Rip's direction. He's trying to make a play for her, and I didn't see Snake doing anything like that. Sure, Scarlett just gave Rip a kiss on the cheek. But it took a lot of work to get to that kiss and it was an indication that she's let her guard down. That she cares about him. A lot of relationships start as friendships first and Ripcord had quickly established a friendship with Scarlett, enough that she felt comfortable enough to actually kiss him.

In the original Script, Snake-Eyes was supposed to thwart Ripcord's moves on Scarlett. By example, when Ripcord says the sensitive line in the Jet, Snake-Eyes would swing his swords menacingly to distract him. But they decided to cut it in favor of Snake-Eyes badassery only, and, to be fair Snake-Eyes was the least developed Joe. Being badass was the only adressed aspect of his personality.

All of which is very stupid. If he really cares about Scarlett that way, you would think he would be kind of pissed off about some moron like Marlon Wayans hitting on his girl.

Snake Eyes might be a badass ninja and all but he's still a guy.

Also, once again people are being close minded. Scarlett can't have a relationship with a masked, mute man. Um what the ****? THE MASK IS NOT PASTED TO HIS ****ING FACE! In the comics, he went without his mask constantly. Scarlett saw his true face. But when he was in public, he wore a prosthetic facial mask because it made him uncomfortable and it was Snake Eyes idea to have plastic surgery to fix his face. His motivation for doing it was so he could be out in public with Scarlett all the time, even though Scarlett felt he didn't need to for her sake.

As far as the relationship, Snake Eyes spoke with sign language which Scarlett uh KNOWS! Snake Eyes signs to her and she responds to it. In the Devil's Due comics they made specific note of this and if you didn't know sign language you had to infer what Snake Eyes was getting at based on Scarlett's responses.

So once again, just boring, lame lack of creativity. There is no vow of silence. Snake Eyes simply doesn't talk because he can't! His voice was literally ripped away from him.

Both versions have it's merits, altough I'm not a big fan of the Vow of Silence angle. And the producers never said Scarlett and Snake Eyes weren't an item because he used a mask.

But other people here are saying it.

The producers and Hasbro have said you can't make the relationship work onscreen because he's a mute ninja.
