Apocalypse Scoring Age of Apocalypse - The Soundtrack/Music Thread

The score for this film is one thing I did really like. I planned to do a new X3 fan edit incorporating this film's soundtrack but alas I can't cleanly remove the music from TLS.

Ottman is just so so good. Two scenes of "XN:A" are really affective movie magic for me: 1. Apocalypse taking over Cerebro and 2. Jean Grey's Phoenix moment. I could not help to tear up both times because both scenes are emotionally so overwhelming.

Unfortunately the Apocalpyse scene was followed by Quicksilver's scene and totally ruined the emotional experience for me because this scene was placed horribly in the movie (both tones did not work out so close together in my eyes). Same goes for the Jean Grey moment which had a musical and cinematographical fantastic set-up but was not followed by a spectacular visual experience...the Phoenix and Sophie looked very awkward and dull with the chosen camera angle, her mouth open and cheap cgi effects on the astral plane...

I am wondering sometimes if Ottman is actually the real mastermind behind the good X-Men movies?

That would almost be true, but he didn't work on First Class.

I never could understand the excitement for the over-rated First Class movie to be honest. For me it is a very mediocre and predictable movie...nowhere near X2 or Days of Future Past. I guess I'm always a little irritated by the heteronormativity of characters this movie produces...just as an general atmosphere.

I cannot remember any outstanding scene in First Class.

The Cerebro sequence is fantastic. Perfectly put together. The only moment where Apocalypse felt as grand and imposing as he was meant to. You're right though. Following up with Quicksilver's antics was monumentally stupid.

I didn't really feel anything in the Jean moment. I couldn't get over how goofy Turner looked. I said it elsewhere, but she looked like she was being poked somewhere delicate the whole time.

the build up to that Jean Grey scene was truely breathtaking in my eyes: when Cerebro's door opens, while Xavier is crushed by Apocalpyse and he begs for her help and Jean finally steps out of that door walking towards Apocalpyse on the psychic plane. The moment she keeps on walking on air and the melody shift in the score was my personal cinematographic highlight of the movie. - So devine!

I found this scene just emotionally very important for the entire series! Especially in relation to X3's plot and what this scene represents for the relationship between Xavier and Jean Grey. This scene also relates closely to Wolverine's subplot in "Days of Future Past" and how he saves/influences Jean Grey's future with the informations he gave to Xavier in the past (and Jean Grey returns the favor in the Weapon X cameo helping to free Logan and giving him a part of his memory back). I like how Xavier loses his guilt in this moment for manipulating/mind raping a young Jean Grey in the first trilogy (what causes his own death). In this scene Singer's shows how important it was for him to use "XN:A" to bring all six movies together through Jean Grey's storyline. I actually encourage you to re-watch seven movies and to pay closely attention to Jean Grey's development (there are some interesting Jean Grey deleted scenes from X1 which already set the stage for her development in the entire series). I really love how subtle and deep her storyline became through "XN:A".

...but I agree with you that after the Phoenix aura errupts from her body, she looks very awkward and the chosen angles of that scene are super strange.

Beautifully put. Credit where due, props to Singer for wrapping this particular arc up in such a way. The bulk of the redemptive work was done in DOFP, but I like the way he extended it out in this and paid everything off through Jean. It had both the cathartic release of seeing these characters alive and strong, and a deeply emotional arc for Xavier.

... I just wish I liked the film more. Haha

Really liked the new version of Hope in this. It plays when Xavier attempts target practice with Cyclops, and when Havok, Xavier, and Moira drive up to the mansion. Unfortunately, both tracks are absent from the soundtrack.
