Apocalypse Scoring Age of Apocalypse - The Soundtrack/Music Thread

Wow. I've only listened to the first couple of tracks and I'm already blown away. This sounds EPIC. Ottman really brought his A game with this one. Music is very important in my enjoyment of a film and so far this bodes well for me.

Apocalypse theme indeed rocked.

Only end titles songs I remember, other during movie were nothing special.

After second watching, I think my favorite is 'Beethoven Havok'.

The rock music in the Angel recruitment scene was too loud and went on too long.

Not sure what the relevance of Sweet Dreams was to the mansion blowing up. There must have been a better song with more appropriate title and lyrics.

Ancient Egypt score was very good, nothing much else stood out to be honest.

Beethoven Havok is one of my favourites, not only did the classical music make me think of the night crawler scene in x2 but I actually really liked the scene in the movie because it showed a great amount of a certain someone's power, and arrogance as to think they could do something without the modern day weapons

Metallica can NEVER be too loud nor too long!

I didn't like that metal song.... well its interesting that they used a Metallica song because once upon a time, I tried to get in myself to metal music and I kept listening to Metallica songs but I just couldn't transcend myself to liking metal music.

And didn't like Beethoven Havok... is that the track for when the missiles were launched? Not a fan of that whole scene so I couldn't appreciate the score for it.

I get that. I'm not as big of a fan of Metallica's early work to be honest. It's a little TOO aggressive and "metal" for me. Either way I'm still a fan haha.

Yeah but to be fair, the music suited Angel.... for me what ruined the scene was the lighting of the scene, it was just sooo off and the execution of the whole scene was not very good.

I spoiled myself and listened to the beginning/end credits! Gah! I couldn't resist. I've managed to avoid spoilers and clips minus everything I can piece together through logic, but hearing the end credits I couldn't resist! The one thing the X-Men over other superhero franchises have is an actually noticeable theme. The MCU falls flat in that regard and the DCCU also has been too much of the same from Hans after TDK trilogy (and then the droning and synth drums from Junkie XL)

The end credits are also a bit spoilery with how Ottman weaves in certain motifs, and I love providing recognizable themes to certain characters (if only Ottman used 'Frankenstein's Monster' more, gah).

To get my fix I decided to revisit Powell's X3 score, and boy is that just an incredible score. I like Ottman and all, but I really hope he reuses Powell's John Williams/Danny Elfman-esque stuff like Phoenix Rises and stuff. He throws the whole kitchen sink at you and it has that classic vibe to it.

The X-Men films are so great with their usage of music. Every single one has TERRIFIC music. Even Origins by Harry Gregson Williams. They all have memorable tracks or themes.

X-Men 1 - The X-Jet (Main X-Men theme, so triumphant!) Logan and Rogue(so emotional)

X2 - Main iconic theme, Jean's theme, the mansion raid and the Cerebro theme are some of my favorites. Perfect example of music elevating the film material to masterful levels.

Last Stand - The Phoenix theme really is the strongest aspect of the ENTIRE movie. Both uses in the death of Prof. X and the final showdown with Logan, are magnificent. The end credits march is also a standout.

Origins - Wade's them, Wolverine's hero theme, the slow more emotional "Kayla" theme. Good stuff that really helps a bad movie.

First Class - It's spectacular front to back. Frankensteins Monster, and the final Magneto theme are some of my favorite tunes from the entire franchise. "True Colors", "X-Training" and "Mutant and Proud" are also fantastic.

The Wolverine - Really captured the essence of Japan. Again a really triumphant and catchy Wolverine theme. "A Walk in the Woods" "The Wolverine" and "Where to" are my favorite tracks. "The Wolverine" really elevates that sword fight with Shingen and gives me chills every time.

Days of Future Past - Reprise of the main iconic theme, and even BETTER this time! Xavier's "Hope" theme is amazing. "I Have Faith in You - Goodbyes" just get's the blood pumping.

I'm digging what I've heard from Apocalypse and I'm sure it won't disappoint in the actual film.

I love the score. I wished it used Hope more though. So far I do think X2 and Days of Future Past have better scores. I need to see the score paired with the movie to make my final judgement.

The score is so cool but "The Transference", "Beethoven Havok", "Like a fire" and "You're X-Men" take the prize for best tracks.

I love the first few seconds of the pyramid collapse/main titles track. Wish that bit was used more.

I basically agree with all of this. The entire franchise is blessed with good music. I really loved the house fight and final Phoenix fight from X3. Incredible.

I'm really glad I didn't listen to 'Like a Fire' before I saw the film in theaters. Though I suppose we are in a way fed up with Singer and co. and want new people to handle the franchise, the fact that this franchise has had a relatively consistent musical identity pays off pretty well when we get to hear Ottman interweave certain character's motifs through pieces. Particularly in the case of 'Like a Fire', because we get to hear the X2 theme (or I guess four films in, we can consider it THE X-Men theme).

The way Ottman scored and edited that portion of the climax worked really well I think. Even though the rest of the climax kinda fell into "I don't care" destruction, that bit where everyone comes together works magically.

Even if Singer is gone, I hope Ottman stays on. Or the next composer doesn't just toss out the character motifs from before. The music is a very important part of this franchise's identity.

Agreed. Music was great in those scenes.

I hope he stays on too. Without Singer he won't have worry about editing.

The score for this film is one thing I did really like. I planned to do a new X3 fan edit incorporating this film's soundtrack but alas I can't cleanly remove the music from TLS.
